Is the Bible Really from God? How Can We Be Certain?

...IS THE BIBLE REALLY FROM GOD? HOW CAN WE BE CERTAIN? We must first remember in discussing the claims of the Bible with anyone, that the Bible is not a single, autonomous work. Rather, it is a collection of 66 different books written over a vast time span in three languages on three continents with authors from every station in life. Every word recorded in the original documents is considered to be chosen by God. So, our first point is that the testimony of Paul establishes a point of view that holds the Scriptures very highly. We know that the early church believed the Scriptures were inspired, we must now find out how to demonstrate that fact. Before going too far, I would ask your friend what type of evidence...

Dara Shalom Chamberlain College of Nursing NR361-65561: Information Systems in Healthcare March 2013 We Can But Should We? “As healthcare embraces technology to improve patient outcomes, streamline operations, and lower costs, the technologies with the most impact are the ones that make things simpler” (Why and How). Various companies are trying to simplify the process of obtaining essential patient information with the use of quick response, or QR codes. These codes are placed on stickers, bracelets, and cards for wallets. When paramedics scan the QR code, they gain access to the patient’s health profile, which contains basic personal information, allergies, medications, and emergency contacts. With instant access to this vital information, medical errors are reduced, and the time that they would otherwise spend obtaining this information is cut. Some people believe that this is a wonderful advancement, and it “could benefit so many folks” (Davis), while others are concerned and skeptical about this new technology. Benefits One advantage of utilizing QR codes in emergency response situations is the shortened time spent obtaining vital patient health information. By cutting down time, paramedics are able to make treatment decisions more quickly. “Every second counts during medical emergencies, and quick access to medical information can be the difference between life and death” (Rich). Immediate access to the individuals medical......

Top 10 Reasons Why It Is Harder to Be a Woman

...Emma Mitchell Group #3 Homework Assignment #3 Top Ten Reasons Why it is Harder to be a Woman What makes it harder to be a woman than a man? There are many sociocultural reasons as to why it is harder to be either gender. As a woman, these are just a few of the reasons why it is harder to be a woman than a man. 10. Women who have more sexual partners are looked down upon in society. Thinking back to being in high school our class valedictorian was the nicest, smartest, most popular girl but she was looked down upon because she had multiple sex partners during our high school career. It was a situation where a woman in power was judged by her choice in her number of sex partners. Most people spoke ill of her because of her choices, but they often failed to see all the hard work she put into our community and into her own education. The difficult thing about this challenge to being a woman is that other women are generally the people that disapprove of these choices the most. They often have the harshest words to say in regards to other women. Some men appreciate this type of woman more and thatis for obvious reasons. 9. Men grow up watching their mother do all house work. It makes it harder for a woman to “train” their man to help with house work. With television shows such as Family Guy, The Simpsons, and King of the Hill, shows that have a predominantly male following; it is hard for a woman to teach a husband to help with house work......

Can We Should We

...We Can But Should We Chamberlin College of Nursing NR361: Info Systems in Healthcare Abstract In this paper we begin with a short history of the Quick Reaction code (QR code) and move onto the QR code in marketing and how it can be similarly used in the healthcare field from advertising to take-home monitoring equipment for patients. We discuss a study conducted by Lin C, Tsai F, Tsai W, Wen H, & Hu M., 2012 and how the use of QR codes has help to decrease wait times in the pharmacy and actually increase accuracy of dispensing correct medications. After discourse on personal information we will end this paper with a few healthcare related ethical concerns. We come to the conclusion that QR codes could be beneficial to the public and private sectors of healthcare. Quick reaction codes (QR code) had their beginning in auto manufacturing plants in Japan in 1994; QR codes were designed to help track automobiles during the manufacturing process (Gottesman, & Baum, 2013). Like many other technologies, when shortly after their initial production, QR codes were found to be useful in many other areas than just automobile manufacturing. QR codes have recently been heavily used for marketing. The QR code is able to hold a significant amount of information and anyone with the correct tool to read the code is able to extract this information such as a website or such that for a consumer could lead to a shoe store, a hair salon, or even an electronics store. From auto......

10 Reasons Why We Don’t Need Gm Foods

...10 REASONS WHY we don’t need GM foods With the cost of food skyrocketing – hitting not just shoppers but the poor and hungry in the developing world – genetically modified (GM) foods are once again being promoted as the way to feed the world. But this is little short of a confidence trick. Far from needing more GM foods, there are urgent reasons why we need to ban them altogether. 1. GM foods won’t solve the food crisis A 2008 World Bank report concluded that increased biofuel production is the major cause of the increase in food prices.1 GM giant Monsanto has been at the heart of the lobbying for biofuels (crops grown for fuel rather than food) — while profiting enormously from the resulting food crisis and using it as a PR opportunity to promote GM foods! “The climate crisis was used to boost biofuels, helping to create the food crisis; and now the food crisis is being used to revive the fortunes of the GM industry.” — Daniel Howden, Africa correspondent of The Independent2 “The cynic in me thinks that they’re just using the current food crisis and the fuel crisis as a springboard to push GM crops back on to the public agenda. I understand why they’re doing it, but the danger is that if they’re making these claims about GM crops solving the problem of drought or feeding the world, that’s bullshit.” – Prof Denis Murphy, head of biotechnology at the University of Glamorgan in Wales3 commercialization, genetic engineering has failed to significantly increase US crop......

Describe a time when your perspective changed. How did your perspective change and why did it change? “On my honor, I will never betray my country, my integrity, my character, or the public trust. I will always have the courage to hold myself and others accountable for our actions. I will always uphold the laws my nation and the agency I serve.” The people that take this oath are considered the finest, and noblest people that decided to, selflessly and humbly, dedicate their life to the greater good. According to the oath police officers are supposed to embody honor, faithfulness, integrity, character, courage, accountability, community, and wield the public’s trust. The question is: how many police officers are actually like this? How many can purge themselves of all selfish, irrational beliefs and treat everyone equally? I used to believe that most police officers were exactly what the oath said they were with the minority being the wicked ones, but recently I am starting to believe that reality is the opposite. I’m starting to believe that the wicked police officers are the majority and the just are scarce. “FERGUSON, MO (KTVI) - A shooting in Ferguson has tensions riding high between residents and......

Reasons Why We Outsource Us Jobs Abroad

...Reasons why we outsource U.S. Jobs: - Lower Wages. Simply put, wages for manufacturing jobs in the U.S. are generally more expensive than the vast majority of developing countries and are likely the most attractive rationale for outsourcing American jobs. - Less Regulatory Costs. The regulatory compliance cost for employing domestic labor can be a potentially bigger component of total worker cost than wages, per se. Examples of these costs or taxes on business include social security, Medicare, FICA, OSHA compliance, unemployment insurance, etc. When U.S. businesses consider outsourcing to China, India, or Mexico, the above labor expenses can be avoided. - Tax Benefits. Several foreign countries, anxious to lure American jobs to their shores, offer enticing broad tax incentives to U.S. multinational firms. - Ability to Downsize at Will. Downsizing or upsizing at will provides American business managers with flexibility when addressing product demand - Quicker Turnaround Time. For business, in general, but especially for smaller firms, when a decision to expand has been made, companies usually need to interview, hire, and train new employees. - Uncertainty over Political/Business Climate. Uncertainty about the political/economic legislation coming out of Washington is frustrating for American business and makes it difficult to pursue long-term capital expenditure. - Accelerated Time to Market. Outsourcing......

...Is It Worth the Risk? Social Media and Healthcare Robert Shaw NR360: Info Systems Chamberlain College of Nursing Fall 2015 Is It Worth the Risk? Social Media and Healthcare Social media has taken over the way that we interact with one another. It is leading the way in which we communicate with family, friends, coworkers and strangers. It is also the way we keep up with our favorite celebrities and gossip. Social media and the use of smartphones are becoming more prevalent in business and the healthcare field as well. According to Pew Research Center, “62% of smartphone owners have used their phone in the past year to look up information about a health condition” (April, 2015). Technology, just like all things come with flaws and setbacks. However, with the new technology being created every day, along with the increasing use of both smartphones and social media, using these outlets for patient-provider relationships can enhance overall patient trust and care. That being said, ensuring that patient privacy is not violated has to be the number one priority. Advances in technology and media can pose great triumphs for healthcare further down the road, as long as the appropriate measures are taken to ensure that HIPAA standards are being met at all times while using these outlets. Understanding HIPAA’s Guidelines for Securing Patient Information HIPAA’s Privacy Rule sets the guidelines for the use and disclosure of protected health information (HHS, n.d). This......

Why We Born

...Have you ever wondered why you exist, why you were born? Have you ever suspected there isn't a purpose to life at all? What is the meaning of life? Is there anything beyond this physical life? If you've ever pondered questions like these, you're not alone. Mankind has pondered these questions for millennia. Philosophers, scientists and theologians have tried to resolve them, but with confusing and contradictory results. Can you know the answers to these questions? Yes, you can! The astonishing answers can be found in the pages of your Bible. Did you know that the main reason the Bible was written was to explain how God is creating His own family, the sons of God? It is amazing how few people grasp this incredible truth, yet it is so plain in the Bible. At the beginning of the Bible is the account of the creation of Adam and Eve. All human beings are their descendants. We are, by natural descent, their great, extended family. Adam was, according to his natural parentage, a son of God (Luke 3:38 ). Therefore, in our natural descent, we are all the children of God. He is our Father by physical creation. Creating immortal children But God's purpose is far greater than the creation of corruptible and perishable human beings. God is in the process of creating His own spiritual children who will be incorruptible-children with eternal life who have His divine nature or character. He refers to this new creation in terms of "the old man," in contrast with "the new man," who is...

Why Was the Bible Written

...Eric D. King REL. 221 Dr. John Brannon “Why Was the Bible Written?” Writers have a purpose for writing. One may write to inform, entertain, oppose, expose, persuade or to preserve facts. Why was the Bible written? In this study, we shall seek to answer that question. Our opinion as to the Bible's purpose is not valid or sufficient (Isa. 55:8, 9). Accordingly, we shall let God, the Holy Spirit; tell us why it was given unto man (1 Cor. 2:6-16). If we know why the Bible was written, we shall know how to use it more effectively (2 Tim. 2:15). Dr. Seuss and Mother Goose are literary works, but their purpose differs from that of Sandburg's "Lincoln" or Shirer's Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. If you doubt that, read them to a three year old at bedtime. If we are to understand the reasons why the word of God was written will assist us in receiving its intended benefits and blessings. To better understand the Bible's purpose and reason for existence, it may help us to see goals that it was not given to accomplish. First, it was not written for profit. Men may make money for publishing it, but the Bible was not written for that purpose. God said, "If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine and the fullness thereof" (Psa. 50:12). Many of the apostles suffered "the loss of all things" (Phil. 3:8; 1 Cor. 4:9-13). Money was not their motivation. Second, the Bible was not written to satisfy idle curiosity. God gave man a curious, inquisitive nature. This......

Why Read the Bible

...Question: "Why should we read the Bible / study the Bible?" Answer: We should read and study the Bible because it is God's Word to us. The Bible is literally "God-breathed" (2 Timothy 3:16). In other words, it is God's very words to us. There are so many questions that philosophers have asked that God answers for us in Scripture. What is the purpose to life? Where did I come from? Is there life after death? How do I get to heaven? Why is the world full of evil? Why do I struggle to do good? In addition to these "big" questions, the Bible gives much practical advice in areas such as: What do I look for in a mate? How can I have a successful marriage? How can I be a good friend? How can I be a good parent? What is success and how do I achieve it? How can I change? What really matters in life? How can I live so that I do not look back with regret? How can I handle the unfair circumstances and bad events of life victoriously? We should read and study the Bible because it is totally reliable and without error. The Bible is unique among so-called "holy" books in that it does not merely give moral teaching and say, "Trust me." Rather, we have the ability to test it by checking the hundreds of detailed prophecies that it makes, by checking the historical accounts it records, and by checking the scientific facts it relates. Those who say the Bible has errors have their ears closed to the truth. Jesus once asked which is easier to say, "Your sins are forgiven you," or "Rise, take...
