The Mistaken Link

...The Mistaken Link While we do not know the main cause of breast cancer, we do know certain causes and risks that are linked to the disease. There are many established causes of breast cancer, such as inheriting a BRCA gene (a defective gene associated with increased breast cancer risk), being exposed to oral contraceptives, hormone replacement therapy, and hormonal changes. Many hormonal changes occur during pregnancy and may influence a woman’s chance of developing breast cancer later in life. There have been recent misconceptions that abortions may be linked to women having a higher chance of developing breast cancer. Only about 5-10% of women with breast cancer develop this cancer because they have had an abortion. The vast majority of women with breast cancer have not had an abortion, but there are some women with breast cancer that have abortion as an attributable risk according to Angela Lanfranchi. With all of the confusion to whether or not there is a link between abortion and breast cancer, there has been a significant amount of research to figure out the truth. Many studies have looked at a possible link between abortions and an increased chance of breast cancer also known as the abortion-breast cancer hypothesis. The hypothesis proposes that if a pregnancy is interrupted by an abortion, then more immature cells that developed in the growth of the breasts could be left than there were prior to the pregnancy, resulting in a greater potential risk of......

...HUMAN PERFORMANCE TECHNOLOGY Case studies Summary/Application Briefing Sheet Case Reference Citation [APA, 6th Edition]: Gerson, R.F, (2006). The Missing Link in HPT. International Society for Performance Improvement, 10-17, Retrieved from http://www.ispi.org Summary Richard F, Gerson, CPT, PhD, understood the various theoretical models to help us understand how things worked. He described the HPT model as an ‘elegant in its simplistic and comprehensive in it application” [10]. After conducting research with professionals that had experience in and out of the field he determined that there may be gaps that were identifiable. He describes the seven step process for performance improvement; however, he more importantly recognized that there was a missing piece in the entire process that would play a significant role in the overall improvement process. Gerson recognized that the people who play integral roles in this process were the missing link in the overall process. “The people side of HPT and performance improvement...focused on what a performer brings to the performance situation, his or her motivational levels, and how emotions affect the performance. [11] There are various analysis that help determine how an organization and process is working in the current environmental conditions, but it is the performance of individuals that determines if the deficits can be met and goals be reached. A performer analysis will determine the motivation,......

...“perimeter fencing” (The United States General Accountability Office, 2003, pp. 18). This “perimeter fencing”, which controls access to the airport, should be a cause for concern when we examine the strength of access control at Midway International Airport. The following photograph in figure 1 depicts the perimeter fence located at approximately 5187 West 55th Street, Chicago (Google Street View 2010). The photograph is taken along the northern perimeter fence looking southwest at runway 22R. This chain link fence is the only barrier protecting this section of the property from intrusion. Figure 1. Northern perimeter fence. Midway International Airport. A common sense question to ask is how this fence would perform if it was driven into by a vehicle. If the vehicle was a truck driving at a higher rate of speed loaded with easily acquired items like stolen railroad track rocks, with the sole purpose of increasing its energy, this fence would be no match. In fact, the chain link fence depicted in Figure 1 would allow full penetration without the attacking driver suffering any injury using a one and a half ton or two ton truck. “An analysis of crash test data indicates that, unless enhanced by the addition of cables, fences offer little protection against penetration.” Both of these facts are supported by the Military Handbook Guideline for Security (United States Department of Defense, 1993). The major concern regarding the impotent perimeter barrier to vehicle......
