INTRODUCTION

Project management is defined in the PMBOK as: '...the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to project activities in order to meet stakeholder`s needs and expectations from a project.'

Project management is the structured system that is used to complete a task successfully to the approval of the stakeholders. It makes use of all available resources and tools to accomplish this task.

A successful project can be defined as the completion of all activities within the scope of the works within the given budget and within the allowed time.

For project management to be effective, the main elements must first be identified. These elements are interdependant and are all critical to the success of the project.

They are scope, cost and time.

This study will discuss the neccesity and importance of the project management elements and how they contribute to the successful completion of a project. We will also touch on other project management aspects such as the tools that are used along with the abovementioned elements as well as the importance of quality during the project life cycle.

THE ELEMENTS OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT

SCOPE MANAGEMENT

According to the PMBOK, scope management can be defined as: '...the processes required to ensure that the project includes all the work required, and only the work required, to complete the project successfully. It is primarily concerned with defining and controlling what is or is not included in the project.'

For effective scope management it is important to make sure that the scope of the project is properly identified. The project management team should be certain that they understand exactly what their client expects from them in terms of his needs or problems. Failure could result in additional work and effort which will most likely result in additional costs and time.

...UNIT 3 INDIVIDUAL PROJECT PHIL201-Introduction to Philosophy by Kendra M Hutchins AIU Online 11-25-2012 Because philosophy is so important in our society, we have to study also the logical errors that will occur. Upon research of fallacies, I have learned they are statements or ideas that may sound reasonable or sketchily true but are actually weak or dishonest. If there is any error in an idea, than a logical fallacy is apparent. Depending on how the fallacy is formed or what it is geared around, determines the type of fallacy the argument or idea is. These come up in the philosophy world very often. This is why philosophers have different categories for them. Depending on how the error comes about determines the type of fallacy it is. Mere Assertion is an argument that lacks factual support. It’s merely an opinion that is formed more so by belief then logical evidence. For example, Robert is a vampire; I can feel his cold blood when I touch him. This argument has no real logic behind it, only reasoning that makes sense to the person stating it. Because this statement is not backed by facts of Robert being a vampire, then it is a mere assertion. With not giving enough information in an argument, this can cause confusion. Robert could just have cold blood, that does not mean he is indeed a vampire. Circular Reasoning is an argument that aids support to a statement by repeating itself in a bolder definition. For example, I am human because my mother is human and......

...UNIT 2 INDIVIDUAL PROJECT PHIL201-Introduction to Philosophy by Kendra M Hutchins AIU Online 11-18-2012 Abstract Everyday a new invention is made. A new cure for a disease is discovered. This is based off of evidence and knowledge. But who is to say what reality is and what is not? To what boundary are we willing to go to find out how true our existence is? Beliefs and religion is based off of knowledge of certain doctrines. But evidence is needed to support whatever your beliefs are. The human race tends to have a variety of beliefs throughout both concrete and abstract areas of knowledge, in this essay I will explore to what degree beliefs need evidence. Using examples, I will focus on the following knowledge issues; does our perception of evidence justify our beliefs? And are we able to have beliefs without evidence? Noticeably, all areas of knowledge are benefited by support from evidence. It is a question of how much evidence is needed for sufficient support. Title holds many concepts that can be explored in different ways. ‘Beliefs’ can be described as spontaneous occurrences of vivid ideas in the mind’ (Pojman). More abstract areas of knowledge such as art can adopt this meaning as they require less ‘evidence’ ;being subjective means that it does not necessarily require physical proof. ‘Beliefs can also be caused by experiencing things in constant conjunction to each other’ (Pojman). This depicts the fact that belief is more of a ‘reasoned process.’......

...Externalities in the Marketplace Cindy Johnson AIU Abstract This paper will discuss the concerns of correcting the effects of gases and particulates emitted by a local power plant and how the market activities have unintended positive or negative effects outside the market’s scope. These effects are referred to as externalities and therefore, will examine the cost and benefits of each action. Externalities Externalities are generated when individuals impose costs on or provide benefits for others. They usually do not have an economic incentive to take those cost or benefits into account. This results in either a negative or a positive externality. A negative externality is generated when a particular side effect imposes a cost on others. A positive externality is a side effect that generates benefits for others. (Krugman, 2011). There are many ways in which the government controls the amount of emissions and pollutants that are released, but the most two common ways they use is to tax the companies that are producing the pollutants. This is called the Pigouvian Tax. A Pigouvian Tax is a tax on external activities. These externalities are actions not taken into account by the acting party. For example, pollution is considered an external activity to many industrial processes; therefore, the government might impose a tax on polluters. (WordIQ, 2012). Another way the government can control the amount of emissions is to directly tax the pollution. This is......

The President of the United States makes his arguments to the Senate and other countries by using English. If we were in the period of time, everything important would be in Latin. The journey of language was not an overnight change. Other languages also help shape our language as we know it now. I often wonder where languages come from. Not such different dialactes that come with different areas of the United States. But during the origins of language with its spread from culture to culture came changes. Now that there is a different means to communicate, people may not agree with one another. According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, the term vernacular can be defined as using a language that is native to a country or province rather than a cultured, foreign, or literary language (Merriam-Webster, 2011). These languages would one day be known as Portuguese, French, Spanish, Italian, and etc. The vernacular languages would also be considered as the large family of contemporary “Romance” languages. Before the twelfth century, Latin was the major language that was used. Especially by writers, This means all of the books were in Latin. This is how teachings and traditions were......

...Deborah Rodriguez April 22, 2014 Social Security & Disability Seminar Assignment Unit 4 In unit four, we learned about the attorney fees that came up with our assignment. There are two main sources of attorney’s fees in Social Security cases. Most awards by far are paid by the claimant, usually out of past-due benefits. Another source of fees is the Equal Access to Justice Act (EAJA), a federal fee-shifting statute. For the most part, attorney’s fees for OASDI and SSI claims are governed by the same or similar rules. Many of the same rules apply also to non-attorney representatives. Attorney’s fees paid out of the claimant’s benefits are regulated by statute and regulations. Fees for claims resolved within SSA are authorized at the administrative level where the final decision is reached. Thus, administrative law judges approve fees in cases where a favorable hearing decision was issued, and the Appeals Council authorizes fees in cases decided finally only by the Appeals Council. The representative must file a request for fees in writing, which must include a list of services performed, the amount of the fee, and any expenses incurred. SSA considers a number of factors when evaluating a representative’s request for fees, including the type and amount of services performed, the difficulty of the case (including the skill required of the representative), and the results achieved. Although the amount of benefits received is taken into consideration, it does...

...Unit 2 Discussion Board Thesis Statement: “War on Terror” has reduced more of our freedoms in America and has done little to catch Terrorist: we should eliminate the TSA and reevaluate all the other amendments that are being infringed upon and restore our freedom. Annotated Bibliography Garrett, R. L. (2014). Lone Wolves: Coming to an Airport near You?. Airport Business, 28(3), 14-16. Ronnie Garrett describes the growing trend of the lone terrorist (the single terrorist that acts alone); he uses the LA gunman that opened fired at the LA Airport in LA last fall. This gunman didn’t go through security. He walked in the front of the airport got out his gun and opened fired. This type of terrorism is growing; this defeats the purpose of the TSA. I feel there are not enough acts of this kind to justify the expense of having the expenditure of the TSA in full blown TSA mode through every airport in the country. (n.d). TSA 'chat-downs' not meeting goals and expectations. USA Today. August 17, 2012 USA today did a report on a new security technique the TSA was piloting in Boston. They were testing a new system were they were reading facial expressions and signals on over 725000 passengers passing through the airports and only a small number were recommended for prosecution and none were terrorist. The program did not rule out to any other airports. This backs up my view that the TSA is not effective. I am not saying the process would not have worked, I have heard of this......

What conclusions can you draw about the supply of and demand for labor at Yahoo? The conclusion about the supply would be for Yahoo to try to continue to do what they were doing when the old internet of Yahoo when business was booming but little twist to getting involved in the new internet. The twist of getting the new internet into their business would be the demand of their supply. Something that can attract the new generation especially since it’s all about the internet and the new technology. I also think that Yahoo should partner with other investors that will help advertise their business. Example would be like Samsung and Amazon Fire use google or have the google app already on their devices. So going into business with another company/investor can also help them as well. 2. What actions might Yahoo take to strengthen its internal recruiting? How might these efforts support Yahoo’s corporate strategy? Some actions that yahoo can take to strengthen its internal recruiting would be to advance in careers and to have the employees share their ideas. It states that Yahoo is seeking pathways for growth so since the employees already have an idea of what the company is expecting or may need; maybe promoting someone into office and having them share their ideas on what the company needs can strengthen the company...

...it 4 as1PAUL LILLY TEREASA KATYNSKI UNIT 4 STUDY 1 Overcoming the perils of Canoe Lake * Describe the general structure of skin Epidermis, and Dermis The epidermis is the relatively thin, tough, outer layer of the skin. Most of the cells in the epidermis are keratinocytes. They originate from cells in the deepest layer of the epidermis called the basal layer. New keratinocytes slowly migrate up toward the surface of the epidermis. Once the keratinocytes reach the skin surface, they are gradually shed and are replaced by newer cells pushed up from below. The outermost portion of the epidermis, known as the stratum corneum, is relatively waterproof and, when undamaged, prevents most bacteria, viruses, and other foreign substances from entering the body. The epidermis also protects the internal organs, muscles, nerves, and blood vessels against trauma. In certain areas of the body that require greater protection the outer keratin layer of the epidermis is much thicker. Scattered throughout the basal layer of the epidermis are cells called melanocytes, which produce the pigment melanin, one of the main contributors to skin color. Melanin's primary function, however, is to filter out ultraviolet radiation from sunlight which damages DNA, resulting in numerous harmful effects, including skin cancer. The epidermis also contains Langerhans cells, which are part of the skin's immune system. Although these cells help detect foreign substances and defend the body......

...Assignment Instructions Unit: 4 Instructions: This week's Assignment consists of reading a scenario about Sandwich Blitz, Inc., and responding to four questions. Dalman and Lei have discussed two possible avenues to grow and expand Sandwich Blitz, Inc. One possible strategy would be to franchise locations. Another strategy would be to secure venture capital to finance an internal expansion by opening more company-owned shops. Dalman feels that he just doesn’t have time to investigate these options because he is spending an increasing amount of his time assisting the location managers. Lei noted that two of the location managers had exhibited a lot of skill in the management of their locations and perhaps a new position could be added to coordinate with the location managers. This would free Dalman to work on these larger issues. After reading the scenario above and your assigned readings in the textbook, paying particular attention to the section on authority, respond to the following questions: (Please number your responses 1 – 4 according to the four questions) 1. How would creating a new position between the CEO and the location managers help the business to grow? 2. Is promoting an existing manager the best option to fill this position? If not, what is an alternative source to fill the position? 3. Who within the company should make these decisions? 4. List the levels of authority (management) that Sandwich Blitz, Inc. would have if the new position is created. To......
