Pizza Hut Case Study

...rented a small building on in their hometown Wichita, Kansas and opened the doors of first Pizza Hut in 1958. A year later, the company incorporated and opened the their first franchise in Topeka. By 1966, Pizza Hut established a large home office in Wichita to help oversee the 145 Pizza Hut franchise restaurants that were established.

It didn't take long for Pizza Hut to become the No. 1 pizza restaurant chain in the world. In 1971, only 13 years after the Carney brothers started their first Pizza Hut, Pizza Hut became the world's most successful pizza restaurant in terms of sales as well as in the number of restaurants around the world. Pizza Hut has aggressively sought out franchise owners. It has made itself more attractive to franchise owners is by aligning itself with other restaurants such as Taco Bell, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Long John Silvers (ultimately all becoming a part of the Yum! Franchising group). One of the more unique items of note, Pizza Hut sets itself apart from a lot of its competitors because it allows Franchisee's autonomy in deciding some of the items they will carry on their menus such as
being free to use different kinds of toppings from different suppliers. While there are differences in ingredients, the basic elements in each pizza are the same. This allows consumers to get the familiar taste they love, but also allows franchise owners to branch out. Pizza Hut Franchise Submarine Sandwiches and Salads Company Website:......

Angelo's Pizza Case Study

...| Strategic Leadership & HRM | Angelo’s Pizza | | By: Nida Kanwal (13-3201) | 11/21/2013 | | Q1: my strategy is to (hopefully) expand the number of stores and eventually franchise, while focusing on serving only high quality fresh ingredients. What are three specific human resource management implications of my strategy (including specific policies and practices)? Answer: The expansion of stores and eventually franchising while focusing on serving only high quality fresh ingredients should include the following three resource management implications: (1) BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT ANALYSIS: This implication represents the importance of the company’s general and competitive environment. Angelo needs a good business strategy. A strategic plan is the company’s plan for how it will match its internal strengths and weaknesses with external opportunities and threats in order to maintain a competitive advantage. Angelo’s early attempts showed the pitfalls in rushing and making assumptions about replicating a viable business unit. Fortunately, Angelo has realized his lack of proper planning and the necessity to correct his errors before attempting to branch out into more stores and possibly franchising. The locations of the proposed new stores are paramount. These locations must be in areas where high quality ingredients are readily available. The supply of fresh ingredients does not meet all the needs for successful stores. The medium that serves the customer......

Domino Pizza Case

...Domino’s Pizza Case: Geographical integration facing local specificities The U.S. Pizza Industry is not really attractive due to a lack of concentration¹ in the domestic market according to Porter’s five forces analysis. Despite this obvious lack of attractiveness, Domino’s Pizza (later referred to as «Domino’s») were able to make a 8% profit² relying on an inimitable competitive advantage: the 30-minute delivery guarantee made possible by a very specific computer system developed by the company. Facing few growth opportunities in the domestic market, the company decided to adopt a geographical integration strategy in order to increase market shares. Since market entry is riskier when there are cultural differences between the company and the new market, Domino’s adopted a master franchise model of operations that allowed the company to minimize its risks in foreign markets while earning higher returns through the royalties system. This memo addresses the question why Domino’s Pizza have been so successful in some countries and failed miserably in others whereas it was using the same franchising agreement system in every foreign country. To this end, we will highlight key success factors of geographical expansion through the franchise system: the company’s ability to transfer their resources to franchisees and to adapt to local tastes. We will then suggest Domino’s to improve their appraisal of the local environment and ensure better respect of their procedures to achieve......

...the forest environment begins to deteriorate and the biodiversity starts to decrease, which means that many wild animals that lived there for many years are dying. To make matters worse, the deterioration of the forest causes water pollution. As a result, in order to meet the water demands of the people, the local government has to use a large sum of money to buy clean water (p. 4). From the example of the forest resources, it is obvious that heavily using natural resources cannot let the Southern African region cast off poverty. In the short term, heavily using natural resources may temporarily develop the local economy. However, in the long term, unreasonably utilizing natural resources is not the right way to alleviate poverty. The cases in China and Southern Africa are typical for many developing countries, so these examples warn that economic development with environmental damage is not feasible to alleviate poverty. In order to thoroughly reduce poverty, people should consider both economic development and environmental protection at the same time. Economic development and environmental protection can coexist through some reasonable policies. In other words, based on sustainable development, the policy should consider that the economy and environment can both sustainably develop at the same time. Specifically, because most people rely on natural resources to live in some poor countries, some poverty reduction policies should consider natural resource conservation to...

Nick's Pizza and Pub Case Study

...Nick’s Pub and Pizza Case Study By Daniel Rottlaender MGMT2603221 Nick’s Pub and Pizza restaurant franchise was just one of many companies that got into financial trouble after the economic crisis of 2009. In the case of Nick’s Pub and Pizza however, it had serious consequences due to the fact that the owner of Nick’s Pub and Pizza was planning on expanding the franchise from only two restaurants to five. Unfortunately, the recession caused by the depression of 2009 caused guests count to drop by twenty percent leading to revenues decreasing by almost $1 million. On top of the crisis caused by the recession, the management of both restaurants struggled to keep the costs as low as possible. Every single week they did a count on their food inventories to the previous week in order to adjust this for the current week’s sales. Even though beverage and food costs were still above goal, 22 percent of revenues for beverages and 20 percent of revenues for food, the restaurant’s total revenues were still decreasing. The reason for that was that the management constantly hired externally due to the experience they gained in other restaurant chains. In those restaurant chains the idea of leadership was based on “command and control” cultures. That basically means that the management only told people what to do without digging into what they did believing that the instructed with a task would perform that job correctly. All these issues (Costs up, revenues down) caused the bank......

...ANGELO S PIZZA* Angelo Camero was brought up in the Bronx, New York, and basically always wanted to be in the pizza store business. As a youngster, he would sometimes spend hours at the local pizza store, watching the owner knead the pizza dough, flatten it into a large circular crust, fling it up, and then spread on tomato sauce in larger and larger loops. After graduating from college as a marketing major, he made a beeline back to the Bronx, where he opened his first Angelo s Pizza store, emphasizing its clean, bright interior; its crisp green, red, and white sign; and his all-natural, fresh ingredients. Within 5 years,Angelo s store was a success, and he had opened three other stores and was considering franchising his concept. Eager as he was to expand, his 4 years in business school had taught him the difference between being an entrepreneur and being a manager. As an entrepreneur/ small-business owner, he knew he had the distinct advantage of being able to personally run the whole operation himself. With just one store and a handful of employees, he could make every decision and watch the cash register, check in the new supplies, oversee the takeout, and personally supervise the service. When he expanded to three stores, things started getting challenging. He hired managers for the two new stores (both of whom had worked for him at his first store for several years) and gave them only minimal how to run a store type training, on the assumption that,......
