The era of 1906 also brought some positive signs in the history of mass communication of the sub continent. The leading personalities that marked the era for their courageous and bold journalistic services were Maulana Muhammad Ali Johar, Maulana Zafar Ali Khan, Maulana Hasrat Mohani and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. Apj Abdul Kalam

...Intro Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, alias APJ Abdul Kalam, was born in Dhanushkodi, Rameswaran, India on October 15, 1931. The son of a little-educated boat-owner in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, he had an unparalleled career as a defence scientist, culminating in the highest civilian award of India, the Bharat Ratna. As chief of the country's defence research and development programme, Kalam demonstrated the great potential for dynamism and innovation that existed in seemingly moribund research establishments. A lifelong scientist, engineer and world leader, Kalam's prominent role in India's 1998 nuclear weapons tests established him as a national hero. Kalam is popularly known as the Missile Man of India for his work on the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology. In 2002, India's ruling National Democratic Alliance helped him win election against the country's former president, Kocheril Raman Narayanan; Kalam became India's 11th president on 25th July 2002 and completed his term in 2007. APJ Abdul Kalam is a man of vision, who is always full of ideas aimed at the development of the country. He firmly believes that India needs to play a more assertive role in international relations. He was the first scientist and bachelor to occupy the seat of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.  Dr. Kalam is one of the most distinguished scientists of India with the unique honour of receiving honorary doctorates from 30 universities and institutions. He has been awarded the......

Abdul Kalam

...J. Abdul Kalam joined India's defense department after graduating from the Madras Institute of Technology. He was a central figure in the development of the country's nuclear capabilities, and was hailed as a national hero after a series of successful tests in 1998. Kalam served as India's president for one term, and died of a heart attack on July 27, 2015. Early Years Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born into a Muslim family on October 15, 1931, on the island of Dhanushkodi off the southeastern coast of India. He developed an early fascination with flight by watching birds, which developed into an interest in aeronautics after he saw a newspaper article about a British fighter plane.  Despite his modest beginnings – his dad built and rented boats – Kalam was a bright student who showed promise in science and mathematics. He attended St. Joseph's College, and went on to earn a degree in aeronautical engineering from the Madras Institute of Technology.  Rise to the Presidency  His hopes of becoming a fighter pilot was dashed when he narrowly missed out on a spot with the Indian Air Force. Kalam instead joined the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) as a senior scientific assistant in 1958. After moving to the newly formed Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in 1969, he was named project director of the SLV-III, the first satellite launch vehicle designed and produced on Indian soil. Returning to the DRDO as director in 1982, Kalam......

Child Labour-a Shame!

...especially women. Increase adult wages so there is less need for children to work.Probably, this may help children to get a better chance to live and cherish their childhood days.Decreasing the working hours may also help them to contribute their more time in studies and other fun activities. The working conditions should be improved.Health and safety of children should be ensured. Hazardous and exploitative work such as bonded labour, child sex abuse, child prostitution, military conscription, mining and work that exposes children to toxic substances or extreme temperature conditions shold be banned by law and people breaking this law sholuld strictly be punished. Our former president of India and a well known scientist Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Azad said, “All of us should feel proud on all literate, intellectuals, entrepreneurs and affluent citizens of the country but it should not be forgotten that such categories of persons are almost surrounded from all corners by large number of people who are poor, illiterate and malnutrition. They make our life comfortable and worth living by hard work of day and night and it may be dangerous to neglect them ….”Stop neglecting them. Instead of employing children as a domestic help, try employing their parents, suggest people to send their children to school.Don't buy products from manufacturers who employ child labour. Children truly are God's precious gift to mankind. They are born to live and blossom. All we can do is to......

Sedition Law in India: the Case of Seema Azad and Vishwa Vijay

...Travesty of Justice in the The Seema Azad and the Vishwa Vijay case A critique of the Allahabad Court Judgement  A critique of the Allahabad Court Judgement To ask for papers proving guilt in black and white, Is useless for there need be no such papers The guilty have proof of their innocence The innocent often have no proof. - Bertolt Brecht Introduction On the 8th of June 2012 Additional District Judge, Sunil Kumar Singh, Presiding officer of the District and Session Court, Allahabad, pronounced life imprisonment to 36 year old Seema Azad, writer and editor of Dastak (a monthly magazine) and the Organising Secretary of the People's Union for Civil Liberties, Uttar Pradesh branch, under waging war against the Government of India and for offences related to being a member and supporter of a terrorist organisation. Her husband Vishwa Vijay too was similarly sentenced. The Judgement came exactly after the two had spent twenty seven months (two years and three months) in Naini Jail. This Judgement has once again exposed how the Indian Security Establishment, the Police and the Intelligence are working in tandem with a section of the Judiciary and that any arrest made in the name of Maoism and Terrorism can be justified by invoking the draconian laws like the UAPA and the colonial era security provisions of the......
