In today’s world a phone is more than just a device that makes calls to family, friends and businesses, we are doing so much more than we ever could imagine in the past. The smart phone is the new device where we are able to do so much more than just talking, the wireless technology has taken the office and put it in the palm of our hands and made it mobile, so we can do those office functions remotely. The advantages of this technology in short is that it allows more communication with others through not only talking but also through texting and internet which has allowed face to face communicating like skype and Apple’s face time to name a few. We are also dependent on our smart phone to help us navigate through our day from the calendar to remember appointments, meetings, doctors’ appointments, alarms, GPS, internet, social media, shopping and mobile banking which all of these are applications that make day-to-day life a little easier. Many of the changes that we have seen when it comes to smart phone technology have improved quite a bit of the last ten years or so and are that people are using those features and functions that are convenient for them. Much of this can be contributed to the fact that in today’s times we have less and less time to ourselves, we need more convenient ways to do more in shorter amount of time and smartphones and APPS are a way to get this done . This is not only for the US citizens but worldwide users as well who maybe feeling the time crunch. It is predicted that a quarter of the world’s entire population will use smartphones by the end of this year and by the end of 2017 one-third of all people around the globe will be smartphone users.

These downloaded apps assist the user in everyday tasks to make life easier for managing a hectic schedule, pass time while waiting in line or at the airport, make shopping more fun as well as make it easier to do business with an array of companies through their apps. The time spent on mobile apps has increased dramatically since the invention of smart devices and the iPad as well as surpassed time spent on the traditional Internet. Social networking apps are near the top of the list such as Facebook and Twitter (Roberts and Zahay, 2013, p. 307). Apps appeal to a wide variety of interests, lifestyles and demographic groups. There are many apps for fashion, sports and entertainment as well as location-based marketing for restaurants, shops, etc. (Roberts and Zahey, 2013, p. 452-554). What do I use on my Blackberry? Do apps really impact my life? Discussion I will turn 50 this year, so I am a bit old-fashioned and quite new to the mobile applications market. ...operated by the owner of the mobile operating system, such as the Apple App Store, Google Play, Windows Phone Store, and BlackBerry App World. Usually, they are downloaded from the platform to a target device, such as an iPhone, BlackBerry, Android phone or Windows Phone, but sometimes they can be downloaded to laptops or desktops. Mobile apps were originally offered for general productivity reasons, including email, calendar, contacts, stock market and weather information. However, public demand and the availability of developer tools drove rapid expansion into other categories, such as mobile games, factory automation, GPS and location-based services, banking, order-tracking, and ticket purchases. For this assignment I will focus on two apps, Swell Radio and MyFitnessPal. I am a person who is just getting my feet wet when it comes to the tech sector. I am a beginner, and so far I seem to enjoy apps that are rather simple and productivity based. ...Web or Mobile App Paper CIS 207 Tim Thacker J Adam Hendricks 05 AUG 2013 The topic of discussion for this paper is going to be on the mobile app “Gas Buddy” for Android. Gas Buddy is one of the most practical apps that I use. I use it on average only about once a week, but it can potentially save me hundreds of dollars a year in gasoline charges if I use it effectively. The way Gas buddy works is that it allows it’s users to locate the nearest gas stations to them or the gas stations in a location they will be in later in the day. This is enabled by utilizing the smart phone’s location services or GPS. In addition to that, Gas buddy will also list the prices of gas at each station for each fuel grade. Since Gas stations vary their prices based on their competition, this app really empowers the consumer by allowing them to see the prices of all the stations in the area. In the old days, we could only compare the prices of gas stations by physically seeing them AT the different stations with our own two eyes and word of mouth. Gas buddy has become our new source for word of mouth communications for gas prices. Gas Buddy is designed so that it’s users post the prices themselves, with the users becoming the dynamic source data that is required for and displayed by Gas buddy. This means that Gas buddy is constantly changing and always up-to-date. On the flip side, Gas buddy is similar to Wikipedia in that it uses open-source data and that data is not 100% reliable....

Mobile Banking the Future of Banking Industry

...Mobile banking is a system that allows customers of a financial institution to conduct a number of financial transactions through a mobile device such as a mobile phone or personal digital assistant. Mobile banking differs from mobile payments, which involve the use of a mobile device to pay for goods or services either at the point of sale or remotely,[1] analogously to the use of a debit or credit card to effect an EFTPOS payment. The earliest mobile banking services were offered over SMS, a service known as SMS banking. With the introduction of smart phones with WAP support enabling the use of the mobile web in 1999, the first European banks started to offer mobile banking on this platform to their customers.[2] Mobile banking has until recently (2010) most often been performed via SMS or the mobile web. Apple's initial success with iPhone and the rapid growth of phones based on Google's Android (operating system) have led to increasing use of special client programs, called apps, downloaded to the mobile device. With that said, advancements in web technologies such as HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript have seen more banks launching mobile web based services to complement native applications. A recent study (May 2012) by Mapa Research suggests that over a third of banks[3] have mobile device detection upon visiting the banks' main website. A number of things can happen on mobile detection such as redirecting to an app store, redirection to a mobile banking specific......

...the key questions in the United States v. Microsoft antitrust trial was whether Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser was part of its Windows operating system or a separable piece of application software. As another example, the GNU/Linux naming controversy is, in part, due to disagreement about the relationship between the Linux kernel and the operating systems built over this kernel. In some types of embedded systems, the application software and the operating system software may be indistinguishable to the user, as in the case of software used to control a VCR, DVD player or microwave oven. The above definitions may exclude some applications that may exist on some computers in large organizations. For an alternative definition of an app: see Application Portfolio Management. [edit] Application software classificationApplication software falls into two general categories; horizontal applications and vertical applications. App Developer

...A 12-year-old app developer TEDxManhattanBeach · 04:40 · Filmed Oct 2011 I've always had a fascination for computers and technology, and I made a few apps for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. I'd like to share a couple with you today. My first app was a unique fortune teller called Earth Fortune that would display different colors of earth depending on what your fortune was. My favorite and most successful app is Bustin Jieber, which is — (Laughter) — which is a Justin Bieber Whac-A-Mole. I created it because a lot of people at school disliked Justin Bieber a little bit, so I decided to make the app. So I went to work programming it, and I released it just before the holidays in 2010. A lot of people ask me, how did I make these? A lot of times it's because the person who asked the question wants to make an app also. A lot of kids these days like to play games, but now they want to make them, and it's difficult, because not many kids know where to go to find out how to make a program. I mean, for soccer, you could go to a soccer team. For violin, you could get lessons for a violin. But what if you want to make an app? And their parents, the kid's parents might have done some of these things when they were young, but not many parents have written apps. (Laughter) Where do you go to find out how to make an app? Well, this is how I approached it. This is what I did. First of all, I've been programming in multiple other programming languages to get the basics down, such......
