America One Car (AOC) dealership is moving into a newly built facility in a suburb town of Washington, D.C.. You are retained as a consultant by AOC dealership to design a network solution for their new location. The new facility is assumed to be wired with UTP and fiber, with outlets in specific locations. The basic network is to be a LAN that serves desktop computers in the general manager’s office, in the salesmen’s area, and the showroom area; mobile devices (laptops, smartphones, tablets, etc.); and various accessories (printers, etc.). A major component of the network is a file server (for storing the sale contracts, and other files). Of primary importance is the Internet access solution (e.g., leased lines, Cable, DSL, broadband wireless, fiber to the home, satellite). Other components (such as web server, and database server) may be added for completeness (to earn extra credit). Design a network solution, considering the following: •Type and topology of LAN •LAN cabling •Storage file server: data back-up/archiving, file consistency, file access logs, and data recovery •Internet access method (assume maximum availability of solutions) •Security (all pertinent issues) •Any other specific issues, such as web and database servers (for extra credit) Your deliverable is a Word document of 4-6 pages (not including the title page and the reference page). Siemens Sharenet : Building a Knowledge Network

...Siemens ShareNet : Building a Knowledge Network Case Background: Siemen’s Information and Communication Network’s (ICN) Group Strategy Division had been delegated with the task of proposing a strategy for the future of ShareNet. ShareNet, a Knowledge Management System had grown from a small experiment to a tool and was widely used by ICN’s Sales and marketing department (S&M), had been rolled out to R&D department and one of the Siemen’s large U.S. Client. There had been a meltdown in the telecommunications industry which had precipitated major cutbacks throughout ICN.Group Strategy team faced pressure to cut costs and as a result, ShareNet was likely to come under increasing scrutiny as it been viewed by the upper management as a “ Nice to Have” and not as a “ Mandatory’ tool. There were questions around funding on whether Development and Maintenance of ShareNet be treated as a corporate initiative or the ICN’s five product divisions which use it as a resource should fund for the ongoing development and support. Case Analysis: The core idea of building ShareNet, a global knowledge network surfaced when an internal ICN consultancy group, Business transformation partners teamed up with a group from Boston consulting group who identified the unique challenge faced by Siemens due to the poor reuse of customer solutions and sharing of best practices which was critical to shift from pure technology products to products with solutions. Potential buyers should never bid on a vehicle without driving it. | March 07, 2012 | Steve Lang View Full Screen 4 Photos 1. * * * * Chances are that if a vehicle has been traded in, leased, repossessed or totaled, it will find itself among the nearly 9 million vehicles that are purchased each year in an auto auction — either one that caters to dealers or one that's open to the public. Few people outside of the auto industry ever realize the size and scale of this business. It's second only to Wall Street in terms of sheer volume of items being sold at bid. Auto auctions are capitalism in its purest form, and that's what lures buyers in search of a good used car at a low price. And while there are bargains to be had, there's plenty of potential for disaster, too. I've seen both, and often on the same day. From a $200 Volkswagen to a $200,000 Ferrari, I have personally seen hundreds of thousands of deals come together to the future joy of one party — or the long-term sorrow of another. In my decade-long travels in this world, I have been the bid caller — also known as......

Creatimg a Network Solution

...Create a Network Solution Name: Course: Tutor: Date: Create a Network Solution. Many methods of using computer networks for data storage have come up in recent years. The most common and popular approach which I personally prefer is the network attached storage (NAS).NAS allows businesses more affordably that before to store and retrieve large amounts of data. Most businesses do not consider the future expansion of their companies when creating their network solutions and end up exhausting their network resources. The increase in the data capacities of the electronic components used in today business world has led to the demand for a more convenient storage type. The ability to use a file server to store files has led to companies deploying large centralized NFS servers which are accessed by thousands of clients. Central file servers are seen as the basic solution to demands put forward. A file server is in basic terms a workstation or a personal computer hardware running on a network operating system (NOS).The NOS in this case boasts file sharing capabilities. The hard drives installed in the computers are used to provide the required storage space ranging from gigabytes to terabytes of memory space depending on the size of business. Many business owners are not justified by the use of a fully general-purpose computer as a server for simple storage services. This factor brought to the development of the network attached storage (NAS). NAS creates a system...

Building a Network Structure

...First in building a network we must figure out what cable will be used for our telecommunication rooms. Category 5e twisted-pair copper cable is the most common and inexpensive cabling used today. Next we will need to have the right set of tools for building or telecommunication room. Lastly we need to figure out what type of testing will be performed to see if everything runs properly. The advantages of using the CAT5e cable is that it is an upgraded version of CAT 5 that adds specifications for reducing electromagnetic interference from a twisted pair unshielded to another twisted pair. CAT5e also provides greater signal-carrying capacity. Another advantage of using a CAT5e cable is its support for Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet. Bandwidth is important because it provides information that contains a part of the system. Finally CAT5e upgrade the thickness of the PVC protective coating which has improved the longevity of the cable. For new installations, including cable and crossover, CAT5e provides the speed and CAT6 capacity, but on a much better price. Now that we know what cable we will be using next is the equipment required to build our physical network. Since we are running CAT5e cable we will need to use patch panels to act as a midway. All the wiring will need to be punched down and attached to the back of the patch panel. The front is made up of RJ-45 connectors into which patch cables connect. This prevents any damage to the room wires. Now that......

Experiment: Building a Network for a Small Business

...Experiment: Building a Network for a Small Business Gustavo J. Cazares GS1140 January 5, 2015 There are many things to consider when designing and building a network for a small business from the ground up. Among the first thing to take into account are how many computers will be needed and what kind of processing will be done with those computers on the new network (McQuerry, 2008). The next thing to consider is an overall budget for the project. Once all these factors have been taken into account, a plan can be made and implemented. Now with a budget and design in place, the hardware can now be chosen and purchased. If only light computing such as data processing, email, and filing will be done, then the computers themselves will not need to be as high end as if the computers were going to be used for video and photo rendering. For an office with ten computers being used solely for data input and record keeping, the estimated cost would be roughly $10,000 (, 2015). That would include: 10 computers, software, wireless internet router, a network storage device and all the cables required. Internet service would also have to be taken into account as there are many options on internet service providers and one option would be cable internet at an estimated cost of $3,400 per year. Now that all the equipment and the internet service have been selected and purchased, the next step would be construction of the network. The average hourly rate of an Internet......

Mini Case Paper #1-Building “World Car”

...Mini case paper #1-Building “world car” 1. Discuss the strategies implemented by Toyota and Honda to achieve greater efficiency in car production. One of the major strategies implemented by Toyota and Honda to achieve greater efficiency in car production is pursuing the continuous improvement and using “lean” production system in order to eliminate waste in the organization. Toyota and Honda show a strong emphasis on total product quality not only at the expense of lead time but also in the development of productivity. Lean production system has combined the flexibility and quality of craftsmanship with the low costs of mass production (Hindle, 2008). It aims at eliminating the waste in the different stages throughout manufacturing system and process by empowering employees and developing smooth relationship with suppliers and partners. The other key strategy implemented by Toyota and Honda for greater efficiency is the global strategy. In order to expand and exploit potential scale economies, Toyota and Honda establish the global manufacturing system. Toyota and Honda’s home market is not large enough to gain cost efficiencies which leads the companies to look to international markets. They employ the method of foreign direct investment (FDI) to set up their plants and operations in their major foreign markets. They achieve greater efficiency by taking advantages of national differences on cultures, market conditions, politics and others. Besides,......
