US Constitution and Slavery The U.S. Constitution established America's national government and fundamental laws, and guaranteed certain basic rights for its citizens. It was signed on September 17, 1787, by delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, by George Washington. Under America's first governing document, the Articles of Confederation, the national government was weak and states operated like independent countries. At the 1787 convention, delegates devised a plan for a stronger federal government with three branches--executive, legislative and judicial along with a system of checks and balances to ensure no single branch would have too much power. The Bill of Rights is 10 amendments guaranteeing basic individual protections such as freedom of speech and religion which became part of the Constitution in 1791. America's first constitution, the Articles of Confederation, was approved in 1781, a time when the nation was a confederation of states that each operated like independent countries. The debate of the constitution focused on contentious issues like the question of state representation in the national legislature and slavery.
Slavery
The American Civil War approximately 4 million enslaved African Americans lived in the southern region of the United States of America. The vast majority worked as plantation slaves in the production of cotton, sugar, and tobacco. Very few of these enslaved people were African born principally because the importation of enslaved Africans to the United States officially ended in 1808, although thousands were smuggled into the nation illegally in the 50 years following the ban on the international trade. Mba Article for Students on Management

...Management tips: A productive meeting Dr. K. Kuhathasan CEO: Cenlead Whether the meeting is conducted electronically or conventionally, its success depends largely on how effective the leader is. If the leader is prepared and has selected the participants carefully, the meeting will generally be productive. The meeting leader is the person most responsible for keeping the ball rolling. If you're the leader, avoid being a dominator, but don't be so passive that you lose control of the group. If the discussion lags, call on those who have not been heard from. Pace the presentation and discussion so you will have time to complete the agenda. As time begins to run out, interrupt the discussion and summarize what has been accomplished. Another leadership task is either to arrange for someone to record the proceedings or to ask a participant to take notes during the meeting. As the leader, you are also expected to follow the agenda; participants have prepared for the meeting on the basis of the announced agenda. However, don't be rigid. Allow enough time for discussion and give people a chance to raise related issues. If you cut off discussion too quickly or limit the subject too narrowly, no real consensus can emerge. As the meeting gets under way, you will discover that some participants are too quiet, others too talkative. To draw out the shy types, ask for their input on issues that particularly pertain to them. You might say something like "Sunil, you've done a lot of work in......

MORAN STUDENT # 209299 COLUMBIA SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY OR 5000 GRADUATE STUDENT ORIENTATION Managing your life in order meet the requirements of online learning requires effort, discipline and great time management. Someone taking online classes have to find a balance in their time in order to complete assignments and the other important aspects of their lives. There are several techniques that help in this endeavor. TIME MANAGEMENT TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES FOCUS ON GOALS: Establish exactly what you want to accomplish each week. Set a realistic and attainable goal which should be to finish all assignments (Johnson, 2011). PRIORITIZE: Figure out what is most important to accomplish and do that first. Set priorities for each task and then get them done (Johnson, 2011). SET ASIDE TIME TO DO SCHOOLWORK: This time should be like an appointment that you can not miss. It will be easier to avoid other things when this time has been set aside. Make sure you set enough time to finish longer tasks. For example a several page paper will need more time to complete (Johnson, 2011). AVOID WASTING TIME AND DISTRACTIONS: Stay away from activities that waste time and interfere with getting assignments done. Time Management of College Students

...USE OF TIME AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF COLLEGE STUDENTS: DOES STUDYING MATTER? A commonly accepted principle of economics is that, over a reasonable range of output, a positive link should exist between input and output. Furthermore, within the U.S, it is considered only fair that a positive link exist between effort and performance. Thus, it is somewhat disconcerting that a review of the literature review finds mixed results with regard to the link between amount of time spent studying and academic performance. Frisbee (1984), Pappalardo (1986), and Schmidt (1983) find a positive and significant relationship, although the relationship is not large in terms of its magnitude. In contrast, Kember, Jamieson, Pomfret, and Wong (1995) and Schuman, Walsh, Olson, and Etheridge (1985) find little to no relationship. Earlier literature cited in Pappalardo and Schuman et al. also generally find little to no relationship. One explanation postulated to explain these mixed findings is the lack of ameasure of quality of study time. Omission of a key variable leads to a misspecified analysis, limiting the ability to discover underlying relationships. Quality of study time isa multi-attribute variable and thus is difficult to measure; however, one importantcomponent is likely to be the ability to manage time skillfully. Time management abilityincludes setting goals and priorities, using time management mechanics (such as makinglists), and being organized in using time (Macan,......

...needs. As soon as the child is old or wise enough to understand the basic skills in Mathematics and how money is used in everyday life, their parents or guardians can start giving at least a little amount of cash to them. ‘The Breakdown of Students’ Allowance’, an article in Philippine Star Campus website stated the amount of money that high school and college students typically receive from their parents. They usually get P150 to P250 (excluding transport allowance) per day. The allowance covers P50 to P100 for lunch, P30 to P50 for merienda, P20 on average for photocopies, and P50 to P80 for school requirements like printing, buying pens, etc. It also included that students outside Manila, especially those living in municipalities usually get about P100 to P150 per day. But still, it’s the parent’s decision if how much cash they will give to their children as long as it fits the family’s budget and the amount was suitable for a teen to handle. Also, they can decide on how often their children should receive allowance; it can be daily, weekly or monthly. Giving allowance is not just for a teen’s financial assistance. It can also help them to learn the necessary things when it comes to money management. ‘Give 'em an Allowance!’ an article by David McCurrach stated that, “Remember, the purpose of an allowance is to give your children the opportunity to learn how to manage money through their own successes and failures and the input of their......

...of stress for many of us. Although change puts spice in our lives, all changes demands some adjustments, and too much change can ruin our health. Hardy (2008) opined that stress is a major problem for college students. Stress causes many issues with emotional and physical health. One of the most frightening consequences of college stress is suicide because of depression. Hardy added that the following are some of the main causes for college student stress: Pressure to Do Well: Whether it's pressure from family or the student’s interior motivation, the desire to do the best and get perfect grades can put a great deal of stress on a college student. Amount of Schoolwork: College work is much different from any schoolwork a student has ever done and this can make a college student feel overwhelmed quickly. Social Acceptance: A college student may have many friends behind and must start over, particularly if they choose to go to school out of state. The work was shared amongst the members of the group making it easier to concentrate and get proper information and data on each topic that had to be covered. Being able to work as a team made the members of the group exchange information and they were able to correct each other and give advice. The group met after class and discussed the topics and then decided who was going to do each aspect of the task. E mails and telephone numbers were exchanged as well as a deadline date set upon which each member of the group would submit their part. The information was then e mailed to one of the members for compilation. Each member of the group presented on their topic during the presentation process. It was very convenient for the members to share their opinions and information through e mail because of where persons in the group lived and where they worked.
