3 Dilemmas

One of the most controversial decisions in America history, the moral dilemma of President Truman had to face during the War World II, whether invasion or the bomb, a problem in intelligent choice and a matter of life and death.
Truman ordered US planes to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
An argument supporting his decision would be that it saved many lives and ended the war. However an invasion of Japan would have been very costly and both sides would have had more losses. An argument against his decision would be that it was wrong to directly target civilians. It also caused long-term damage as many people developed cancer and other illnesses from the radiation left by the atomic bomb. Whether to use the atom bomb on Japan to end the 3 and a half year war. He used it, and it was responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of Japanese citizens and soldiers. But it did force the Japanese to surrender once and for all. I honestly think this was the wrong way to end the conflict; war is never the answered.

Another ethical dilemma that attracts my attention is a situation in which a person is faced with two choices which conflict with their ethical system. Per example in your ethical system stealing is always wrong. Also letting one's family die from starvation is always wrong. A person in such a situation would be forced to commit one wrong to avoid committing another wrong.
When it comes to an ethical dilemma a choice must be made and to steal is bad, but not so bad as to let your children starve. It is possible that by stealing the food you could be severely punished or even executed and that in itself is another dilemma. If I were a mother, I would steal food for my children, I know it will consider as a wrong reaction to society or communities, but what would I do if my children die? I probably feel bad because I did not take care of them as I should have. So if you ask me, stealing food is not bad in some cases.

Finally, one of the most controversial ethical dilemma whether abortion is ethical or no. Per example a 18 year old girl gets pregnant and cannot decide whether to keep the baby or have an abortion. Her parents are very religious and do not believe in sex before marriage; however they would not take to kindly to their daughter being pregnant. She does not want to kill her unborn child but feels like there is no other option besides having an abortion. There are many reasons that one would decide upon getting an abortion and against having one. In this dilemma along with all other ethical dilemmas is a situation where right and wrong share a very thin line. The right decision for some might be wrong for others and vice versa which is why it is so difficult to decide. Some people, for example the girl in this dilemma, wants to do what she thinks is right by having the baby, but it may choose aborting because she knows that it will cause her many problems to have the baby. In other hand abortion is legal in some countries, so it is not as if the girl would be breaking any laws, but she will live with the decision she made the rest of her life. As my personal opinion, abortion should not be legal; if a woman or girl gets pregnant there are so many couple that cannot have children and thousands of orphanages where those babies can keep living.…...

First for Everything

...Ashlee McGrown IS 101 Education and Social Change November 19, 2012 Final Project: First-Generation College Students First for Everything No two people have the same experiences due to the fact that every person is different, whether it be a difference in background, education, or skin color, something separates everyone. When attending college, you become exposed to to even more differences between everyone. Students come from various backgrounds, including some students being the first in their family to attend college. These particular students are also known as first-generation college students. The hard-work and dedication of these students should not go unnoticed because they struggle differently due to them going into college blind in a sense. They do not know what to expect when going into college because proper guidance is lacked which leaves them at a disadvantage opposed to their counterparts who have family that are experiencing or have experienced the college life. However, a negativity or positivity of a person background does not determine their future, but rather the hardworking ethic and dedication it takes to succeed. “Fischer (2007) reported that black and Hispanic students are more often FGS than their white or Asian counterparts, and they also tend to have lower socioeconomic status backgrounds. Fischer added that the students also experience another disadvantage of being minorities on predominantly white campuses.” (Confronting......

The Story of Everything

...There are countless theories behind the story of everything, the story of how we exist and why. If one is not a believer in science, typically the next best choice would be religion, and the concept of a higher spiritual entity or "god". The article by Stephen Hawking unleashes a brilliant statement about how science is inherently progressive and religion is inherently conservative. Religion is relatively close minded and illogical, and is based on fundamental beliefs as opposed to empirical facts. Clearly we know that God or Gods is (are) not necessary to imagine the beginning of the universe, in our modern understanding science lays out the groundwork for what I believe to be the most viable explanation of the universe. Although, I am only a fraction of the percentage of humans who believe in these theories, as many of us do need some sort of higher entity or religion to put the universe into perspective. With so many different opinions and beliefs about the story of everything, we can start to understand the why and the how of these beliefs and empathize with the believers. In the last century alone we have begun to strung together more scientific facts about our existence than ever before, and are beginning to answer the questions that have perplexed our ancestors for so many years. Now here is the tricky part, we can understand the concept of molecules and the universe, but science states that all of this simply materialized out of nothing, otherwise known as "The Big...

...are violent and often of the most interest to people. Take “The Grand Theft Auto” series as an example, it is obvious that the players think this game is fun and awesome but its content is too violent: allowing player to steal car, killing anyone in sight and escaping from the police. Violent games are at top highest rated with the players, they cause more and more aggressive behavior in our society. Finally, we must agree that the game maybe useful as long as its content is security and people can control their time playing it. In fact, most game players are teenagers, who are too immature to control themselves, and of course, they fail to deny the attractiveness of games. In addition, parents often pay no attention to that because of business or if they care about that, they appear to be incapacitated. Therefore, games remain addictive and harmful to us rather than teaching us something about life. In conclusion, I think that people should try their best to control themselves in playing games and parents should encourage their children to play other activities and give them some rewards. Playing games cannot be a way of teaching but at least, it may do no harm if we attempt to make it like that....

However, there are certain attempts being carried out by the developed countries to discourage free trade agreements among European countries. Conclusion Similarly, the policy process in capitalism is based on ownership opportunities that are exploited by capitalists of society who compel businesses to compete in order to generate more profit. It can be seen in capitalism that most of the smaller companies are acquired by capitalists who control the actual policy process in capitalism. It can also be seen in a capitalist society that most of the smaller business go bankrupt due to increased level of competition which they usually remain unable to meet. It is also essential to discuss that competition in capitalism can be seen in similar as well as different industries. For example, a significant competition can be seen between agriculture and manufacturing industries as capitalists prefer to have growth and also support policies of government that are mostly beneficial to capitalists. The Middle Eastern side of Pakistan is represented in their religion. If one is selling financial products Pakistan should be viewed as a Middle Eastern country, because of the sensitive Islamic beliefs on interest. If one is a consumer goods company then one should view Pakistan as South Asian because of the cultural context. This report attempts to provide its reader an understanding of how to do business in Pakistan. It covers aspects of culture, communication, management issues, negotiation, expatriates and ethical issues, which are relevant to develop a deep understanding of the Pakistani mindset. 2. ...Consunji and Ronna Capili, Milk Tea is more affordable than cold designer coffee.[1] B.   Milk Tea As a Business Originally from Hong Kong, Happy Lemon was brought to the country by a group of Chinese-Filipino businessmen who have been friends since grade school and college:  Kelvin Gaisano, Kristine Gaisano, Smart Gilas player/TV host Chris Tiu, Andy See, Wesley Pardilla, and Edward Go. The young entrepreneurs share a common love for milk tea. Since there are only a few restaurants which serve good quality milk tea in the Philippines, they went abroad in search for the best cup of milk tea. Then, Kelvin got an idea. “Why don’t we put up a milk tea business?” he suggested. All agreed. But finding the perfect brand to bring to the Philippines was the challenge. Chris Tiu related: “Filipinos, to some extent, have already been introduced to milk tea, but we want them to develop a deeper appreciation for it by offering quality beverages that boast of unique and delicious flavors, made from the freshest ingredients from around the world.” Kelvin Gaisano added: “We know there are risks involved. But we also believe that there is an under-served market for milk tea.” In their quest to find the best milk tea, the seven young businessmen went everywhere and tried different milk tea brands. One day, they chanced upon Happy Lemon, a Hong Kong-based milk tea business that has been in the market since 2006. As they waltzed inside the store and started looking at the......
