Dan Lugo DeVry University BUSN 379 – Week 1 Assignment

Hammett, Inc., has sales of $34,630, costs of $10,340, depreciation expense of $2,520, and interest expense of $1,750. If the tax rate is 35 percent.

Required:
What is the operating cash flow?
Operating cash flow $ 17283

**Solution
Sales - Cost - Dep = EBIT
34630 - 10340 - 2520 = 21770

EBIT - Interest = Taxable Income
21770 - 1750 = 20020

Taxes (35%) = 20020 x .35 = 7007

Net income: 20020 - 7007 = 13013

EBIT + dep - less taxes = OCF
21770 + 2520 - 7007 = 17283

Weiland Co. shows the following information on its 2014 income statement: sales = $167,000; costs = $88,600; other expenses = $4,900; depreciation expense = $11,600; interest expense = $8,700; taxes = $18,620; dividends = $9,700. In addition, you’re told that the firm issued $2,900 in new equity during 2014, and redeemed $4,000 in outstanding long-term debt. | | | a. Calculating Cash Flows. What is the 2014 operating cash flow? | | | b. What is the 2014 cash flow to creditors? | | | c. What is the 2014 cash flow to stockholders? | | | d. If net fixed assets increased by $23,140 during the year, what was the addition to NWC? |

Current assets -- $10,000
Net Fixed assets --90,000
Total assets -- $100,000

Current liabilities -- $5,000
Long-term debt -- 10,000
Capital -- 85,000
Total L + C = $100,000

You can also just assume $5,000 of net working capital or any other simple number.
Net income is $35,180 less $9,700 of dividends plus $2,900 of new equity = $28,380 added to capital. We also have $4,000 of long-term debt redeemed, and $23,140 of increase in fixed assets giving us the following new balance sheet:

Current assets -- $10,000 +???
Net Fixed assets -- 90,000 + 23,140 = 113,140
Total assets -- $100,000 + 24,380 = 124,380

Current liabilities -- $5,000…...

Business Law Week 1 Busn 429

...Week 1 Assignment Business Law Name Course ID Date School Even though not all laws are defined by legislature, general rules have been put in place to maintain a legal standard. Being established by the English almost a thousand years ago, it moves with the times and allows changes to come in and set a new precedent or change what is already in place. Common law strives to maintain that standard by obligating judges to rule based on the precedents that have already been established. The sources of American law are separated into the primary and secondary sources. The primary source of law is mostly administrative. This consists of constitutions (federal and state), statutes and laws, regulations. The one that sets itself aside is Case law that provides a source of precedent. A secondary source of law interprets the legal jargon and uses it with the primary sources to establish the precedent. Depending on what the primary source being referenced is will determine the title of the secondary rule. If a statute is being interpreted then it will result in a statutory law. Not all secondary laws are required to be adopted by the states. Uniform laws can be accepted in part or not at all of the proposal from the National Conference of Commissioners. Precedent is a very important part of the decision making process. It protects the continuity of the......

Busn 379 Course Project1

...Running head: COURSE PROJECT 1 COURSE PROJECT 1 Jacqueline Foxwell DeVry University, Busn 379 March 19, 2011 Course Project – Part 1 Task 1: Assessing the loan options for Air Best Parts Inc. 1) Air Best Parts is currently seeking loans from National First Bank and Regions Best. National First bank is offering loans at Prime Rate + 6.75% compounded semiannually, while Regions Best is offering 13.17% compounded monthly. Both of these rates are stated rates, and in order to compare these two loan options, the stated rates or APRs must be converted to effective rates. The Prime Rate for National First is 3.25%. Below are the EARs for both banks: National First: (3.25 + 6.75 = 10%) [1 + (0.10/2)]^2 -1 = 0.1025 or 10.25% Regions Best: [1 + (0.1317/12)]^12 – 1 = 0.1399 or 13.99% 2) Based on the calculations above, it is recommended that Air Best Parts Inc. use National First Bank as opposed to Regions Best. The effective rate for National First is 10.25%, which is 3.74% lower than what is being offered by Regions Best. The effective rate is exactly what Air Best Parts will be paying back to the bank in the form of interest to the bank for borrowing money. Since this will be additional money on top of the principal, the goal is to minimize the amount of interest Air Best Parts will have to pay. Going with National First Bank will save the company money. 3) Taking a $6,950,000 loan at 8.6% APR for five years, Air Best Parts can expect their......

...loan will be structured. The longer the loan is scheduled to last, the more interest you will pay. A loan with a “higher allocation to principal to minimize the total long-term cost” (Ingram) is better to obtain than a loan that has more of your payment allocated to interest. Entrepreneurial characteristics and skills that need to be developed before running your own business are: managerial roles, interpersonal roles, informational roles, and decisional roles. These roles are vital to any successful business. The entrepreneur must be able to hold these roles “comfortably while performing the basic management functions” (Bovee, 2012). Advice that I would give to someone thinking about starting his or her own business includes: 1) Make a business plan; 2) Use available resources; 3) Don’t let the fear of failure hold you back.
