Chasing a Dream Almost everybody has dreams. One person’s could be to become a researcher while another’s could be to become a professional athlete. However, my dream is to become a You-Tuber, or someone who gets paid to make You-Tube videos. You-Tube is a huge social media website where people can post anything from amateur home-made videos, to professional Hollywood quality videos for the people on the internet to view and enjoy. In a recent toll, You-Tube found that there are currently over one billion You-Tube accounts worldwide, making it one of the biggest social media websites in the world. Therefore, it is not hard to imagine how difficult it might be to stand out above the millions of people making videos to become well known on the site. Luckily, I found one of those people that not only live in the Sacramento area, but that is also a third year student at Sacramento State University. His name is Brian Nguyen, or better known as Bigbeedoh on You-Tube, and he currently has around fifty thousand subscribers on the site, which is a decent amount. We met at a Starbucks in Elk Grove, his home town. We sat outside on some heavy iron chairs around a table made of the same material. The wind chilled my bare arms as I asked Brian why he decided to make a You-Tube channel. He adjusted his baseball cap as he responded in a deep voice, “Back in high school I took this media class that I wasn’t supposed to be in, because I wanted to have lunch with my friends.” He leaned back in his chair as he thought about what had happened. “But that class required a lot of prerequisites like, I had to get on my knees and beg the teacher to let me in.” In fact, it was a third year Media Productions class intended for those who already knew a lot about film making, not those that are just beginning to learn like Brian. “But I insisted, telling her, I can learn, I can learn.” Eventually, the teacher let him in the class and he not only got to have lunch with his friends, but he also found his passion for making videos. Brian stroked the thin black facial hair on his chin as he continued with his story: “After taking the class, I learned people were making money by creating You-Tube videos so I asked my friend Aiden, ‘Would you like to go on this journey with me, this quest to become famous?’ And he said, ‘Yeah dude! Let’s do it!’” So they made a You-Tube channel called The Snowermeller Channel. However, this channel failed to gain popularity despite their efforts. Brian shook his head, “I was so desperate for subscribers that I would go to people’s channels and basically beg them to subscribe.”
“Did it work?” I asked, honestly wondering if this was an effective technique.
Brian chuckled, “Not really, the only people that subscribed only did so because they felt bad.” Furthermore, Brian’s friend, Aiden, became too involved with college when he joined a fraternity and stopped making videos with Brian. “So how did you become popular on You-Tube?” I asked, curious. Brian shrugged, “Well, naturally I drifted away from the Snowermeller channel and that’s when I created the Bigbeedoh channel. Soon after I posted my first video, a response video to another one that was trending at the time.” Brian’s voice quickened as he became excited, “In about a week, this video got about one-hundred views and I got really pumped, it was a great way to start.” But this successful beginning was short lived as none of his other videos even got close to reaching the popularity of his first. Consequently, Brian began to have doubts of his dream to become popular on You-Tube. He began wanting to just give up and stop dedicating so much time to making videos. He rubbed his arms in the cold as he spoke, “So I decided, alright, I’m gonna make one more video and if this video doesn’t pop off, I’m just gonna give up.” The video Brian made was called Hypebeast City, which today is a series of videos and Brian’s most popular series on his channel with each video averaging over one-hundred thousand views. “But, it didn’t start out that way.” Brian explained, “When I posted the video it actually only got as many views as my previous videos so I actually kept my word and stopped making videos.” It wasn’t until a month later when someone posted it on another social media site called Tumblr, and it was there where it gained popularity and started achieving ten-thousand views a day for about a week. Since the video gained so much popularity, an extremely successful You-Tuber named Timothy DeLaGhetto saw it and began promoting Brian’s You-Tube channel on his own channel which had over one million subscribers. “When Timothy likes one of my videos it really helps me out because all of his subscribers see it,” Brian said. “Most of my subscribers have come from his fan group and he has really helped me out.” When interviewing Brian I realized a few things, for one, everyone who is chasing a dream will have bumps along the way. No matter how popular or uncommon the dream is, it is almost guaranteed that it will not come easily. Even so, if you are serious about chasing it and don’t give up, you have a good chance of obtaining it. Another thing I learned is that one person can have an extreme effect on others. Hypebeast City was not popular until one person decided they should share it on Tumblr and it was because of that one person that the video gained popularity and Brian continued making videos. After Brian told me his story, I asked him what he would recommend to someone like me, who’s interested in becoming popular on You-Tube. The table made a deep ring as he pounded it with his finger, “You gotta find your thing, don’t copy others and make videos people can relate to.” I believe he’s right, people are more likely to tell their friends about your videos if they relate to them and if they can laugh about it. But he also told me another thing, “Don’t give up.” I believe this is the most important thing when it comes to chasing a dream. I know that when you try to do something unlikely, like become popular on You-Tube, people will tell you that you can’t do it but in spite of that, you need to persevere through it and at least try your best to acquire your dream. There’s one thing that I know for sure and it’s that if you don’t even try, you will never get what you want.…...

Dream

...Dreams can be both fascinating and baffling, which is why they have garnered attention from philosophers, artists, writers and poets for thousands of years. Only fairly recently in history have researchers began to scientifically study the dreaming process. While people still disagree about the exact purpose of dreams and the possible interpretations of dream content, this area remains a topic of interest for both psychologists, researchers, students and anyone who wonders about the reasons behind their dreams. Dream Meanings and Interpretation: Do you often find yourself exactly why you dreamed what you did, especially after having particularly strange dreams? Despite the research and interest in dreaming, no one yet fully understands how to interpret dream meanings. Sigmund Freud’s theory of dreams contributed a great deal to the general interest in dream interpretation. Books and dream dictionaries have helped ensure that the topic remains popular today. Dreams can be mysterious, but understanding the meaning of our dreams can be downright baffling. The content of our dreams can shift suddenly, feature bizarre elements or frighten us with terrifying imagery. The fact that dreams can be so rich and compelling is what causes many to believe that there must be some meaning to our dreams. Theories about Dreams: While many theories exist to explain why we dream, no one yet fully understands their purpose, let alone how to interpret the meaning of dreams. In fact, some......

The Dream

...The American Dream The phenomenon of the American Dream is the substance of almost all American icons, and actually achieving the American Dream is the ideal aspiration of not only Americans but immigrants as well. Some people would argue that the American Dream actually really consists only of being able to buy and own a home, but to me it is so much more! The American Dream named, because it seemingly exists only here in America, for very ambitious people to be a distinguished success through their own hard work and determination. People constantly try to achieve their own dreams. Some people, already here in America, chase their dream by wanting to be a bigger success than their parents. The others who have immigrated to this country chase their very own dream, by giving up all they had just to come and have the opportunity to succeed.  The American Dream is something that is mainly achieved with hard work and determination. First of all, you cannot have a dream without working hard at it; this definitely applies to the American Dream. Whether you are just looking for a job or working a job hard work is something that you need, without it achieving your dream becomes a lot more difficult. Hard work will also lead to more promotions and more successes a lot quicker; these tend to be apart of the average American Dream. The other big reason hard work is needed is if you do not exude a hard working attitude a lot of opportunities will pass you by. With missed......

...Through doing the research about dreams I have learned a vast about of important information from how to write an annotated bibliography, how to use VCU’s library system online, how to critically dissect as well as review my paper and the most important what different people believe a dream means to them. Once again my knowledge of VCU’s online library research system came in handy. Because I knew the correct ways to search of information through this data base it helped eliminate unneeded information. The writing workshops gave me and in depth look and how to read a paper from the readers point of view versus just the writer’s voice. It also gave me a chance to see how other people would create such a paper and gave me tips on where I was lacking strength. Having someone else read and criticized your work humbles you as well as gives you room to grow as a writer. Along with the workshop having you look over my paper and giving me your feedback helped be discover ways I could elaborate and fix my claim. Since this is the second time I have written and read research on the topic of dreams I feel like I have a stronger understanding of how beneficial dreams are to your lives. If I have dream that frightens me I know have a idea of where it came from and how it relates to my day to day life because I have read so many different views and opinions on dream analysis. Learning about the different ways people view the ‘meaning’ of a dream really gives me a new......

Dare to Dream

...Dare To Dream The beauty of dreaming is amazing, it can take you anywhere in reality.  What I dream of is a goal to be set, it is a journey to be taken. When I dream, I force myself to take the challenge and walk into unknown grounds to bring everything I dream into a reality. Some of these day time dreams would come to reality, like the time I dreamed of becoming good in math, but some dreams are not meant to be and other could be way to far from our hands. Some when realized fulfill you of happiness and you just want to live in that moment. I believe that dreams are like a treasure to be search for and discovered.  The first time I found myself chasing my dreams was when I was in the fifth grade. It all started by the middle of the last semester, we were learning long division, but my background in math was really bad. I was lucky to know how to add. I was never a good student, but it was difficult for me to concentrate and pay attention. During class I would picture myself being the best in every subject, especially math. I desired that dream to be true more than anything, so I decided to bring it to life. First I tried to concentrate, but it was difficult. Months passed and I kept struggling with long divisions. One day I was trying to solve a long division for my homework, I started to analyze the equation and ask myself questions about it, then I discovered how to solve them. At the end of the year I was awarded a diploma for my achievement in math. Ever since,......

Dreams

...Dreams My dream started out with a huge unrecognizable, scary creature chasing me at full speed. No matter how fast I ran, I wasn't able to gain enough ground to outrun the creature and hide. I was approaching a huge cliff with nowhere else to turn. I looked behind me and i had no other choice but to jump. I reached the bottom surprisingly at an okay state, and i looked up and saw the creature falling above turn into a thousand little daisys. At that moment I woke up. In Pyschology, when dealing with dreams, there are theories that pyschologists go by to interpret and give meaning to our thoughts that go on at night. The three main theories are evolutionary circadian theory which deals with part of circadian rhyths, sleep evolved to conserve energy and to serve as protection from predators. The second one is repair/restoration theory which is sleep that serves a recuperative function, allowing organisms to repair or replenish key factors. The last is Information Consolidation Theory of Sleep which means based on cognitive research and suggests that people sleep in order to process information that has been acquired during the day Based on the theories above, the theory that best supports my dream would by the information consolidation theory. It was clearly a night-terror where i wasn't able to gain control of the situation and gain conscience. Thinking back to that day, i had read an article about a murder about a young girl. Chasing Pavements

...My mind tormented and briefly captured … Caught in this “one day it’ll happen thought … Chasing pavements so frequently consistently I run out of breath, I think to myself ‘where is my place?’ will I ever look my love in the face? Will my heart keep this pace or will this lack of patience I contain be the cause of a deep crate resulting in an in depth hole of hopelessness and an angry soul … Eyes that only see red and feet damaged from cold pavements that failed to lead me home but surely left me cold. A mind accustomed to lies and deception a heart full of desperation to look my love in the eyes. I throw my hands to the skies, the words I speak are not lies, can’t you see my honesty? ,… I wear no disguise. Sharp needles of pain being aimed and shot seeping hate into my blood stream, penetrating my heart and ripping my soul... should I give up? No, I keep fighting with an arm extended and one knee to the ground. My battle is not over though my mind frowns. Tomorrow I will wear all black because joy is what I lack. Tomorrow you will wear all black because you are the thief who has stolen my mind, my body, my soul… Please let it go. Please just let it free. Allow my vocals to laugh... allow my lungs to breath. What does happiness mean? Could you teach me please? what is life without breath? Tears greeting my cheek, pureness held in the words I speak. Right there … so close but I fear I will never reach......

Dreams

...what are dreams * a series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person's mind during sleep. * source:www.howstuffworks.com * date: February 13 2013 * We've all been there -- dead asleep, caught up in the middle of a cinematic dream that feels so real you think you've actually experienced it, even after waking. Maybe it was a nightmare that left you in a cold sweat, heart pounding. Or if you're lucky, it's a liaison with your favorite movie star. Sigmund Freud believed that dreams are a window into our unconscious, and some studies indicate that he may have been onto something. For example, in one study, amnesiacs reported dreaming about activities that the scientists knew the patients had participated in before they'd gone to sleep -- even though the amnesiacs had no memory of those activities, outside of dreaming about them. This validates Freud's theory to a certain degree, but there are hundreds of competing theories about what dreams are and what their purpose is. * So what are dreams? Strictly speaking, dreams are images and imagery, thoughts, sounds and voices, and subjective sensations experienced when we sleep. This can include people you know, people you've never met, places you've been, and places you've never even heard of. Sometimes they're as mundane as recalling events that happened earlier in the day. They can also be your deepest and darkest fears and secrets, and most private fantasies. There's no limit to what the mind can......

Dreams

...Dreams are successions of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that occur involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep.[1] The content and purpose of dreams are not definitively understood, though they have been a topic of scientific speculation, as well as a subject of philosophical and religious interest, throughout recorded history. The scientific study of dreams is called oneirology.[2] Dreams mainly occur in the rapid-eye movement (REM) stage of sleep—when brain activity is high and resembles that of being awake. REM sleep is revealed by continuous movements of the eyes during sleep. At times, dreams may occur during other stages of sleep. However, these dreams tend to be much less vivid or memorable.[3] The length of a dream can vary; they may last for a few seconds, or approximately 20–30 minutes.[3] People are more likely to remember the dream if they are awakened during the REM phase. The average person has three to five dreams per night, but some may have up to seven dreams in one night.[4] The dreams tend to last longer as the night progresses. During a full eight-hour night sleep, most dreams occur in the typical two hours of REM.[5] In modern times, dreams have been seen as a connection to the unconscious mind. They range from normal and ordinary to overly surreal and bizarre. Dreams can have varying natures, such as frightening, exciting, magical, melancholic, adventurous, or sexual. The events in dreams are generally outside the control of the...

Chasing the Nanny

...Chasing the nanny My name is Elena. I am twenty years old. I have a dog named Bella. She is a police dog. Bella can do a lot of things. She can chase everyone just by smelling something they own. She understands everything you say to her, and the best part of having her is that she is working with me. Together we have solved a lot of cases. One day my phone rang. “Hello?” the only thing I heard was a really loud noise. I tried one more time, “Hello? Are you there?” “Oh, yes my darling. I’m here” it was my boss. “Why did you call, sir?” he answered “I have a very important job for you. You need to find a lost boy, he got kidnapped by his nanny.” I can’t believe it. A little boy got kidnapped by his own nanny. “I’m on my way, boss.” I ran outside to my car. “Oh no, I forgot Bella inside! Bella, come here!” I screamed. When she finally came, we drove to the police station. “Good morning sir, where should we go looking?” everybody was staring at us. “Good morning darling, you can start with the place the little boy last was seen. We are talking to his parents now.” How could I know where he was last seen? I started talking to one of the employed. “Do you know where the little boy was last seen?” “Yes and his name is James. He was last seen in the church. His parents said that he was just going to the toilet and then he got kidnapped.” I either can’t believe that his own parents let him go to the toilet all alone. Bella and I was going to find little James and his nanny. We......

...Theories of Counseling 11/24/14 Personal Experience Paper #3 When writing down my dreams I found this to be quite interesting. As a child I use to attend counseling to help me stop dreaming because of the nightmares I use to have. Anyhow after my counseling I never seemed to dream anymore and when I did I could never seem to remember them. Unlike my dreams before my counseling as a child (which I can remember quit vividly and still remember them to this day) dreams now seem to become mixed with memories of real life events—now I just assume any memory that I can’t mentally verify as a past dream and that I must be experiencing déjà vu. Never the less, I wrote down two dreams. The first one was a lucid dream—I know this because I had the dream after I laid back down from waking up to use the bathroom. I did try to interact with the dream but normally once I become fully aware that I’m dreaming I wake up shortly after. Another issue I had was that when I go back and read what my dream was about it is very scattered; and I have a problem understanding my writing as well as remembering the dream at after re-reading days later what I had wrote. When I try to interpret my first dream all I get from it is that about 50% of it deals with what I do on a day to day bases. I work in a call center and most of my dream dealt with me in work talking on the phone to customers. The other 50% of that dream dealt with my family. I’m not really close to my relatives and I dreamed that I......

The Dream

...The Dream. Copyright 2007 Eve Care I had a dream... One day I would open my eyes or wake up and I would no longer need smoking to keep me calmed and grounded and in that state of comfort. I would be cured. I would then walk to the trash bin with the smokes I had on hand and ditch them, along with the old habit with total good ridence and gratitude that I finally had smoked enough to cure myself. Wow. What a lie. And that was really true. I did have that dream. I dreamt it wherever I'd go. And it didn't matter where I went. I always needed a smoke. And with every smoke I had I would wonder, will this one be my last? Will I finally have enough in me to cure once and for all? It was also a way of holding onto a fantasy. Dreams do come true, but not in the way you may think they do sometimes. My dream of being smoke-free came true, but not in the way I dreamed it would. I had the most illusive dream. It is much like, the American Dream. Because each person is different and have different ideas about how to live an ethical way of life without damaging life around us now, and it is us who need to make the change, to be that change, we wish to see in the world. There are lots of lies that are told to us throughout our lives. most of mine came in the first 30 years of my life. It is hard to break free from all of those lies. Dream

...Dreams are very different from waking life, but it is extremely difficult clearly to define in what the difference consists. When we are dreaming, we are nearly always convinced that we are awake, and in some cases real experiences have been mistaken for dreams. The latter mistake forms the subject of a celebrated Spanish play called Life a Dream, and of an amusing story in the Arabian Nights, in which a poor man is for a jest treated as a mighty monarch, and it is contrived that he should afterwards think that all the honourable treatment he had actually received was merely a vivid dream. Sometimes even after waking, we may be doubtful whether our dream was a reality or not, especially if we happen to fall asleep in our chair and do not remember the circumstance of having fallen to sleep. Of course this doubt can only arise when there has been nothing in our dream that seems impossible to our wakened mind. It is, however, only in rare cases that a dream exactly copies the experience of our waking hours. As a rule, in our sleep all kinds of events seem to happen which in our waking hours we should know to be impossible. In our dreams we see and converse with friends who are at the other side of the world or have been long dead. We may even meet historical or fictitious characters that we have read about in books. We often lose our identity and dreams that we are someone else, and in the course of a single dream may be in turn several different persons. Space and time to the......
