Weight loss is ever-growing topic that people encounter daily. Some people choose to lose weight for health reasons while other do it for the better physical appearance. No matter the reason, weight loss has become one of the hottest topics in today’s world and numerous ways to lose the weight have popped up within the last few years. However the two major forms of weight loss, dieting and exercise, still seem to be the most popular. Both dieting and exercising are highly effective forms of losing weight, but choosing which form best fits your life style can be challenging.
One major factor that you must consider when choosing one of the forms of losing weight is the financial impact that they may cause. Both forms have their perspective costs and you need to decide which form fits your budget the best. Dieting has a number of expenses that need to be analyzed before you decide that it is the route for you, many chains that will help you diet have bug costs. Companies like Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers will give you the path you need to take to lose weight but will ask that you use their products to complete their diets. They will sell you products or meals that you will need to pay for in order to use their dieting programs. These types of programs may cost in upwards of on hundred dollars per month and may also include fees to use their patented dieting programs. If you choose not to go with one of these companies and decide to take dieting into your own hands there are also costs that you will ensue. Buying healthy foods and your local supermarket or grocer is an easy thing to do, but when you get to the checkout be prepared to see a higher cost than normal. Most healthy foods, like fruits and vegetables have a much higher cost than those foods that are said to be bad for your diet. Foods that are generally considered healthy will usually be higher priced than the foods that can be easily prepared and are higher in calories and saturated fats. If you are a person who likes to purchase brand name foods you need to realize that most organic or healthy foods are costly, especially if they are made by brand that marketed the product and knows people will pay the higher price for the name. Dieting can be a very expensive endeavor and, unless you are prepared for the cost, you may be rudely surprised by the prices. Just as dieting has its hidden costs so does exercising. Exercising has become a global sensation over the last couple of years and more companies are coming out daily with new exercise routines, guaranteed to shed weight. Many people who chose to make exercise a part of their lives will generally join a gym of some kind. These gym memberships can be extremely costly depending on where you live and the type of memberships you wish to have. Gym memberships are usually due on a monthly basis and can run anywhere from sixty to one hundred and fifty dollars per month. The member ship also may include fees such as locker rentals and laundry expenses for towels or rags. Most gyms also now offer classes that can be taken at the gym and are run by certified instructors. These types of classes can have their own fees and may not be included in the general membership. If the gym experience is not what you are looking for and are more inclined to work out in the safety of you home there may also be a financial impact that most people do not realize. Having the ability to work out in the comfort of your own home takes away from the craziness of a gym but buying equipment can be expensive. Companies such as Bowflex offer home equipment that you can purchase and assemble for personal use. This type of equipment is usually made with high quality, but with this high quality comes very high prices. Many home gyms can run from five hundred to fifteen hundred dollars. These prices do include some sort of warranty on the product but do not account for general maintenance costs or repairs after the warranty runs out.
Another deciding factor that one must take into account when choosing which method suits them is the amount of time each form of weight loss takes from their daily schedules. Over the last couple of years dieting has become much more convenient to those with a hectic schedule. If you are using a program for dieting like Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig these companies will supply you with pre-made meals or snacks that can be consumed on the run. These types of programs will also let you know how much to eat and when the best time of the day is to eat them. If you are purchasing and preparing your own healthy foods you can also enjoy them while maintaining you current schedule. Most healthy foods can be prepared in little to no time and can be taken with you to be eaten throughout your day. Healthy foods like fruits and vegetables can be quickly grabbed during the day and require little to no prep time. If you are a person who is leaning more toward exercise rather than dieting as your desired form of weight loss there are also few management issues that you may run into. Most gyms now are open either earlier or later to fit customer demand. Also many gyms offer classes at many different times of the day and these classes usually last for about an hour total. If you chose to exercise at home or in a personal space you can also fit in a workout in a short amount of time. There are many exercises that can be done at home and now there are certain exercise programs that you can view at home on your television. Programs such as P90X or Les Mills Step can be purchased on DVD’s and played to fit your own schedule in your home environment. These routines usually last for about an hour and you have the ability to start or stop at any time.
Finally being able to maintain a consistent level of either dieting or exercise is a major factor that one must contemplate prior to choosing there desired method of weight loss. Dieting is a very difficult thing to do for most people and take a certain amount of willpower to remain focused on the goal. Dieting can also give you times that you may have trouble maintaining this focus. Being able to maintain a diet in social environment may be difficult. Going out to eat with friends or colleagues may be a challenge in itself. Being able to remain focused on you r diet and eating healthy foods while others you are with are eating unhealthy, yet very attractive foods that can be extremely appealing. Another way that dieting can be difficult to maintain is the constant counting of things like calories, fats, cholesterol levels, or carbs. Although this is a very important part of dieting, it has its times where it may become monotonous and frustrating. Some people that are dieting need to use a calculator to add up items they have eaten to see if they have met or exceeded their daily allowance. Overtime I would think doing this could become a pain and frustrating. Exercise also has it ways that might make it hard to maintain a high level of achievement. Exercise is a great way to lose weight but most people begin to lose interest if results are not seen by the time they want to see them. Having the ability to make no excuses and continue exercising can be a challenge to those who lack the willpower to push through. Understanding that exercise is a form of weight loss that takes high amounts of effort but will show results only when you accomplish what the exercise intends for you.
These are only a few factors that someone should keep in mind when deciding which type of weight loss method they want to follow. Being able to choose what method best fits your lifestyle can be quite a challenge. Both forms are great ways to lose weight and have be proven over time. Before choosing a form of weight loss it is important to analyze all the factors involved and make a decision that will best work with you.…...

This author will discuss the successes and failures that can be created by effective communication or the lack thereof. Compare and Contrast Paper Effective communication is key to successful leadership. According to Schroeder and Lombardo (2006), there are ten principles for effective communication. They are; know your objectives, choose your language, consider your environment, rehearse, know your spoken and unspoken message, role play, feedback, hypocrisy, don’t over communicate and listen (p. 99). All of the were used by President Lincoln (Phillips 1993). A leader must be able to use all of the above steps in order to communicate an effective message and get the end results he or she wants. President Lincoln was a very effective communicator and felt that his communication style was key to his successes. Lincoln could talk to anyone using humor and witty stories, which he used as persuasive tools (p. 399). In comparison to Mandela in the movie Invictus (2009), Lincoln used his persuasive, yet honest communication style to win the election in 1860. Mandela was elected as President in 1990 after being incarcerated for 26 years and pledged an oath to unite the people of South Africa. Lincoln’s style was a bit different......

...Compare and contrast essays are effective in all areas for my life. Comparing two items that are similar can be positive, however contrasting these items may not be the best way to write about them. Comparing two items that are very different would not be the best way to write about them. Comparing thru contrast would be a much better essay. The idea of writing any essay is to interest the reader to the point where they do not want to stop reading the paper. It is important to capture the reader’s attention, and to keep their interest until the end of the story, or essay. Comparing two ideas that are similar and comparing their similarities could be detailed on how you could change something about the subjects to be able to show their differences. Letting the reader make their own conclusions after giving them the information will help to get the reader involved. subjects. The situations in which these are most effective are professional reflections. Professional comparisons are usually backed by professional primary sources. Those are primary sources can give factual information about both viewpoints in the essay. Personal reflections in a compare and contrast essay is slightly more ineffective as usually personal emotions can get in the way of being objective. ...PSYC 101 COMPARE AND CONTRAST PAPER November 1, 2012 There are many variations to the way in which God has desired for us to choose a mate and the ways that we actually use. Although many are Christians, we still do not follow very well they ways in which God wants us to choose a mate. God’s view on the subject remains the same. However, the secular world’s views change, sometimes very frequently. In a perfect world, in God’s views, we would select our mate by the proper means. Dating, in the bible, is commonly referred to as courtship. Courtship, by definition, is “the act, period, or art of seeking the love of someone with intent to marry” (www.thefreedictionary.com). You are to make sure you marry a believer or else you risk your how you could raise your children. Also, the wife must submit to her husband, just as the church submits to God, because the man is the head of the relationship. We are to love our spouse, but we are to love God above all others (Matthew 10:37). We must refrain from degrading our bodies with premarital sex and are to “save ourselves” for our husband/wife. Upon marrying, we are considered one and unbreakable in God’s eyes. However, we live in a far from perfect world, a world that involves adultery, jealousy, lying, etc., just to name a few. As imperfect as our world is, often our dating and mating rituals are just as poor. We far too often engage in moral wrongs, like premarital sex, and having children out of wedlock. We, as a......

When comparing the two control models their opinions differ completely in reference to the causes of crime. Additionally when comparing crime control and due process models one needs to remember, “Proponents of both models embrace constitutional values which are necessary to the kind of society in which American wish to live” (Zalman, 2008, p. 4). In addition answers will be given to questions about the effects on law enforcement, courts, and differences between federal, and state polices, and distinguishes these values. To utilize plea bargaining is controversial because of the fear that innocent defendants would take a plea and the judge would impose unduly sentences (Neubauer, 2008, p. 20). Also the criticism focuses on the deterrent effect of the punishment itself. The crime control model, court hearings have eroded the deterrent effect of punishment (Neubauer, 2009, p. 20). “Not only is the problem serious, but there is evidence......

...Compare and contrast “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” and “The Necklace” Dreams, sacrifice, marital unhappiness and escapism are often themes involving men and women in English Literature. Throughout history, stories have been filled with main characters living out fantasies and dreams, hoping for more out of their own lives, only to find they had what they wanted right in front of them, all along. These aforementioned these are the main focuses of the two stories I am going to write about, “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” by James Thurber and “The Necklace,” by Guy de Maupassant. The main characters in these two stories are, Walter Mitty, in “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” and Mathilde Loisel in “The Necklace.” Both characters are dreamers of a different, fancier or exciting life, which ultimately cause problems for each character. This paper will compare and contrast these two stories by showing, although each was written very differently, both are from different time periods, different languages, different social settings, and each have different outcomes, they are still very much the same. In “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” it portrays the inner soliloquy of a man’s mind flowing in and out of fantasies as he completes his routine tasks on an otherwise routine day.   Walter Mitty is trapped in an unhappy marriage with an overbearing wife, who runs his life in every moment she is present in the story. Walter’s story begins deep in a fantasy battle,......

In Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam, there are two biggest Italian restaurants that have people usually talk about when they want to have the best Italian food. They are Espresso with friendly and hospitable service and Pepperonis with the appetizing and blazing hot entrees of Pepperonis; they are really the Italian heritage. Before deciding which restaurant leaves a better impression in my mind, a comparison and contrast between location, taste, service and cost must be considered. For me, choosing which restaurant to recommend to family members or friends is as hard as choosing clothes for the first dating. Someone said that having a best meal is not only eating and drinking but also enjoying food in a special space. Pepperonis locates at a beautiful place, it’s near the Saigon River, the most beautiful river in the city. From there, you can enjoy the fresh air, the romantic scene without the noisy of this busy city. It’s a good place for the lovers or a family that wants to relax after a hard day. ...  Compare and Contrast The theme I chose to centralize my paper on is race and/or ethnicity. I will compare and contrast two poems: “Child of The Americas” by Aurora Levins Morales and “What It’s Like to Be a Black Girl (For Those of You Who Aren’t) by Patricia Smith. Morales is a woman if mixed race; Puerto Rican and Jewish, while Smith is African-American. We all want to think that someone’s race or color of their skin wouldn’t determine how they are treated or how they are perceived, but this is not the case. When talking amongst friends about someone they do not know we often describe them by using their skin color. And when meeting someone new one of the first questions we ask is “what race are you?” or the harsher “what are you?” Both of these poems give the reader a look into the mind of two young women of different races, one being mixed and the other being an African American, and how each girl views herself. The poem, “Child of The Americas” by Aurora Levins Morales, the reader looks into the consciousness of a young multi-racial woman. Morales herself is a multiracial woman “Puerto Rican-born and Jewish American Aurora Levins Morales is a poet, essayist, historian, and activist” (Fiandt, 2006). Morales’ poem talks about finding ones identity. ...Compare and Contrast Paper Introduction We have all struggled with situations such as grief, loss, or stress at some time in our lives. When we seek counseling to help us overcome the feelings that are associated with these hardships it is good to know the best way to approach them. We usually just want the problem to go away and we want to feel happy and rejuvenated again. However, there are steps we must take in order to experience freedom and true happiness. Most counselors are using techniques that involve cognitive and behavioral therapy and pharmacological intervention. It isn’t that anything is wrong with these approaches; however this won’t take care of the problem. We must take a biblical approach and seek the Lord when we are faced with struggles. Goal of Christian Counseling When reading through Crabb’s book Effective Christian Counseling, it is clear that the goal of Christian counseling is to not just make a client happy but to bring them closer to God by helping them mature in their faith. This would include using biblical methods of dealing with their problems rather than relying upon secular methods. Crabb specifically states that “the goal is to free people to better worship and serve God by helping them become more like the Lord.” We want to help mature our clients spiritually and psychologically. (Crabb, 1977) There are steps to maturity which includes immediate obedience and long-range character growth. (Crabb, 1977) We need to be able to......
