The outcome of My Foundations Lab® Path Builder was that I have mastered the Punctuation, Mechanics, and Spelling module and The Craft of Writing module. I need work on improving my sentence structures which includes run-ons, fragments and sentence skills.
The skills that I have mastered and the skills I need to work on are greatly important in my academic life. I will have to apply these skills to papers that I will have to write and to the people I will have to communicate with through the forums. It is important I have these skill sets as I will have to make sure I am understood on what I am writing whether it is though discussions or responses.
The skills that I have mastered and will be improving on will help me in my professional life. As of yet I have yet to determine what I will be majoring in, but I do know it will be in the healthcare field. If I was to choose to be a CNA or part of the administrative part of the field, I would have to be able to write clearly in a form that is acceptable.
I was not surprised by the results. I have always struggled with sentence structures. Writing papers have always been my weak points that I have tried to improve on. Connect the Dots

...Omar Gonzalez AP Language Mrs. Edwards “Connect the dots” Essay 15, December 2011 Today, I am an artist sponsored by Roseta Santiago, who is also an artist. It has been quite a journey full of surprises, mistakes, success, and disappointments. I never expected to make it this far, I could only dream of this to happen to me. Now that my dream is a reality, I am just going to live it and hopefully one day, I’ll make it to the top! As a kid in elementary school, I always loved to doodle on my notes and I would enjoy going to art class and making little clay pots and whatnot. I was just always drawing at home, school, and wherever I was. Even though I would draw a lot, I never thought or believed that it would get me somewhere in life, because you would never think of asking a kid what he or she want to be in life and getting the response: “I want to be an artist”. Once I got into middle school, I had this sudden interest in art because I was alright at it and I really didn’t like anything else. Although I liked it so much, I would still never think of telling people my interest in it. I always thought for the longest time that art was just a hobby, that it wouldn’t get me anywhere. As I went through seventh and eighth grade, my passion and interest in art grew even more. Still, I didn’t like art enough to think of it as an occupation because everyone else would always think to be a doctor or lawyer, I was still “exploring” my options. I got the opportunity to take art...

Connecting the Dots

...Connecting the Dots Initially, I was unable to review the actual results of the Path Builder in Step 1 regarding the assessment that I had taken. Step 2 initially showed me that I mastered all modules on my Learning Path. This includes Sentence Skills, Punctuation, Mechanics and Spelling, and The Craft of Writing. When I selected the Mastered Module titled Sentence Skills, I selected Skills Check and took a short exam. This resulted in a suggestion to work on Fragments next. These skills directly apply my academic life because these are the very skills that are going to be evaluated by the instructors, which in turn will determine how successful I am in each class. While I may have the ability to analyze a situation, I won't be as successful in class if I am unable to correctly articulate that analysis using proper grammar, punctuation and sentence structure. The skills that I am learning in the Path Builder also relate directly to my professional life as a Paralegal, working for attorneys that rely on the written word to convey their legal arguments and points when defending their clients. I have to be able to construct clear and concise motions and pleadings, often times trying to convince a judge or prosecutor to see our point of view regarding very delicate topics. Most of my life, I have been naturally able to construct a proper sentence or write a grammatically correct paper, but I could never define a fragment or parallel sentence. I am excited about......

Cuddy, Matthew Kohut, and John Neffinger July–August 2013 Harvard Business review 55 Spotlight on InFluEncE Is it better to be loved or feared? Niccolò Machiavelli pondered that timeless conundrum 500 years ago and hedged his bets. “It may be answered that one should wish to be both,” he acknowledged, “but because it is difficult to unite them in one person, it is much safer to be feared than loved.” Now behavioral science is weighing in with research showing that Machiavelli had it partly right: When we judge others—especially our leaders—we look first at two characteristics: how lovable they are (their warmth, communion, or trustworthiness) and how fearsome they are (their strength, agency, or competence). Although there is some disagreement about the proper labels for the traits, researchers agree that they are the two primary dimensions of social judgment. Why are these traits so important? Because they answer two critical questions: “What are this person’s intentions...

There is an information gap between investors and companies. Investors usually do not have enough information or expertise to determine the good investments from the bad ones. And companies do not usually have the infrastructure and know-how to directly receive capital from investors. Intermediaries include accountants, lawyers, regulators, investment banks, venture capitalists, and money management firms. Venture Capitalists provide capital for companies in their early stages of development. They sought to provide a very high rate of return for their investors for the associated risk. This was accomplished by selling their stake in their portfolio companies either to the public through an IPO, or to another company in a trade sale. Entrepreneurs in the actual process of doing an initial public offering rely upon investment banks. Investment banks provided advisory financial services, helped companies price their offerings, underwrite the shares, and introduce them to investors. Sell-side analysts’ main function was to public research on public companies. Dippin Dots Case

...Teaching Notes – Dippin’ Dots Ice Cream, as of October, 2004 Case Uses & Objectives This case can be used to augment discussions of strategic analysis, specifically both internal and external environmental analysis (Chapters 2 & 3 in Dess, Lumpkin & Eisner); and strategic formulation, specifically business level strategy (Chapter 5), with an additional focus on strategic implementation, specifically entrepreneurial development (Chapters 12 & 13). The case is written in a style that overviews the situation but intentionally avoids guiding students through any analytical framework or specific application question. In so doing, it provides the instructor with the latitude to adjust class discussion and thereby accommodate the abilities of a wide-range of students. Specifically, the instructor can invite students to reason through a situation where uncertainty exists and speculation may be required. In terms of environmental analysis, this case connects a discussion of external environmental forces and Porter’s five-force model, and how such forces affect the opportunities for growth in an industry (referencing concepts covered in Chapter 2). In terms of internal analysis of the firm, (referencing Chapter 3), the value-chain and resource-based VRIN analysis provides a case for how distribution challenges across the value-chain activities could affect value. The stakeholder perspective can also be analyzed using the balanced scorecard. As a business-level......

In an industry awash with competitors, Dippin‟ Dots (DD) is reliant upon particular technological features in the manufacturing, production and distribution of the flash ice-cream product. This is what fundamentally sets it apart from its rivals. Indeed, the industry-life cycle is generally considered to be at the maturity stage, however DD‟s intellectual capital rests upon the ability of its scientific people to continue to create a product that is following a “breakaway positioning” strategy whereby there is a concerted effort to bring to market goods and services that are perceived by customers as somehow being different (Dess, 2006: 178). Seen in this light, DD‟s cryogenically produced products can be categorised as occupying a particular growth stage of the industry life-cycle, within a wider market that is at the point of maturity. The firm is therefore following a differentiation strategy, which concomitant elements of a focussed strategy, as is evidenced by a segmentation strategy which specifically concentrates on the 8-18 year old demographic.
