An organization can benefit from a Total Quality Management (TQM) program because TQM is focused on meeting the expectations of the customer. Reid and Sanders (2010) define TQM as an integrated effort designed to improve quality performance at every level of the organization. TQM improves business from top to bottom because everyone is working towards a common goal. TQM is also a focused approach to guarantee customer satisfaction which will increase sales as well as increase profits. Having a TQM program also improves working conditions where discussion between managers and employees is open and where employees are motivated to work better. Companies can benefit from TQM simply because it insists on quality and excellence across the whole operation.
Analyzing the case more closely, speculate which definition of quality each of the four main players was adhering to and discuss your rationale for each employee.
In response to Delta Plastic’s “super plastic” product, there were several key opinions.
Isabelle Harrison, Director of Research and Development, believes that the product created is safe, but she would like to have the opportunity to quality test it further and fine tune the product.
Jose De Costa, Director of Manufacturing, agrees with Harrison because he believes it is possible the “super plastic” could be “susceptible to cracking” (Reid and Sanders, 2010). De Costa and Harrison are concerned about product design quality as well as process quality.
“Product design quality involves making sure the product meets the requirements of the customer,” (Reid and Sanders, 2010). De Costa and Harrison want to ensure that the marketing of the new product is correct and that the customer will have a product that is true to the brand the marketing team has portrayed.

After developing control limits with control P-charts to be able to understand the overall proportion of defects, I noticed curiously that both processes seem to be in control whereas from a first glance at the figures of the defects of the two materials, one has the impression that the new material is completely out of place for any serious business venture. Our problem was to determine whether there is a major shift in the process that is resulting in the alteration of that process. ...1. CHARACTERISTICS OF WESTERN CUISINE- : European cuisine The cuisines of Western countries are diverse by themselves, although there are common characteristics that distinguish Western cooking from cuisines of Asian countries and others. Compared with traditional cooking of Asian countries, for example, meat is more prominent and substantial in serving-size. Steak in particular is a common dish across the West. Similarly to some Asian cuisines, Western cuisines also put substantial emphasis on sauces as condiments, seasonings, or accompaniments (in part due to the difficulty of seasonings penetrating the often larger pieces of meat used in Western cooking). Many dairy products are utilized in the cooking process, except in nouvelle cuisine. Wheat-flourbread has long been the most common sources of starch in this cuisine, along with pasta, dumplings and pastries, although the potato has become a major starch plant in the diet of Europeans and their diaspora since the European colonization of the Americas. 2. EFFECT OF WESTERN CUISINE PHILIPPINE CUISINE – Cuisine is one of the main traditions and pride in Philippine culture. Philippine Cuisine is a fusion of different culinary cultures, influence from neighboring countries as well as relics from the colonial era. ...Ban Plastic! Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, the three R’s plays a significant role in protection of the environment. Plastics add to litter and landfills. My opinion is to eliminate the plastic bag because it contaminates the water, badly affects the human health and destroys the environment. First, without water no one sustains for long. Plastic bag plays significant role in contamination of water bodies such as ocean, sea, lakes and rivers. For example, 90% of industrial wastes are dumped into water every year. Plastic stands at the top list of industrial wastes. In addition to that plastic bag act as a carrier of food waste as well as electronic waste to the water. Eventually end up in destroying the aquatic life system. Second, large disposal of plastics lead to create various disease which poses serious threat to the human health. For instance, a recent study conducted by Cathy Cirko, President of Canadian Plastics Industry Association revealed that reused plastic bags even showed higher levels of bacteria and toxins. Therefore the foods we carry from different stores in these bags are exposed to contamination. Moreover, a disease pop up and distracts the health of a normal person. Landfills, considered as the storage place of plastics named the critics for development of crucial diseases. Finally, plastic bags destroy the environment by making it as its dumb yard. Recycling of plastic bags increases the pollution. Air and water which are the functional part of a living......

...Head: Delta Plastics, Inc. (B) Delta Plastics, Inc. Dr. Kyle Peacock Operations Management: BUS 515 November 12, 2011 The control chart helps in detecting and understanding presence of special causes of variation. In order to deal and tackle defects in the products and to make quality products available to the consumers, the control chart for product so prepared by standard material and for product prepared by super plastic would help in understanding the areas to be focused and controlled. The 3-sigma control chart prepared for the standard material clearly gives the reflection of the process that can be controlled. There control chart depicts two major areas known as control limits. These are represented by the upper control limit (UCL) and the lower control limit (LCL). The calculation of the control limit can be done through the help of identifying the base control limit, variation and standard deviation for the process. The upper and the lower control limits for a process are calculated by adding and subtracting three times standard deviation respectively to the base control limit. When a point that exceeds control limits then it used to produce signals that contains an alarm for action to be taken to maintain the standards of production process. ...BLOW MOLDING Introduction Blow molding is defined as a plastic process whereby a thermoplastic material is heated to its forming temperature, which is below that of the plastic materials being used; at its melting point it is made to form a hollow tube called a parison or preform. This heated homogeneous plastic material is then placed between two female molds that are cooled through some medium. The two female molds close on the heated parison or preform and a gas, usually air, enters via an open end of the parison via a blow pin or needle; the gas is blown into the closed female mold halves, taking the shape of the internal female closed mold, allow to cool, and is then sent out through an exhaust. The two female molds are then separated and the cooled, shaped hollow part is then ejected or allowed to drop out for the cycle to repeat. In the first attempt over 100 years ago, to blow-mold hollow objects, two sheets of cellulose nitrate were clamped between two female mold halves. Steam injected between the sheets softened the material, sealed the edges, and expanded the heated sheets to form the inside shape of the two female mold halves. The high flammability of cellulose nitrate, however, limited the usefulness of this technique. In the early 1930s, more suitable materials, such as cellulose acetate and polystyrene (PS), were developed; these led to the introduction, by Plax Corp. and Owens-Illinois, of automated equipment based on glass-blowing......

Unit 3 Delta Plastics Case

...Unit 3: Assignment Chapter 5 Delta Plastics Case 1. The different costs of quality that costs that Delta Plastics has been effected by are appraisal because Jose has to analyze the monthly quality report, internal because they rushed releasing the new product without quality testing and external because the if the customer receives a defective plastic product they will not want to buy any more and will tell their friends that it is a poor product. Delta Plastics traded off the prevention cost which would have been more time spent fine tuning the plastic so that they could release the new “Super Plastic” sooner ahead of potential competitors. George Chadwick was incorrect when he decided that more tests were not necessary. Because of that decision the new “Super Plastic” has 93 defective for cracks and 71 defective for air bubbles for the month compared to the Standard Material which had 41 defective for cracks and 55 defective for air bubbles. For the other three defective categories, two of the three were within a standard deviation of each other. 2. The quality control tool that I would use to analyze the monthly quality report would be the histogram. I would use it because it easily differentiates and visually presents the data. Between the two products there was a dramatic difference in the defects for cracks and air bubbles. The new “Super Plastic” had 93 products defective for cracks and 71 defective for air bubbles for the month. The......

...Delta Plastics, Inc. (A) Assignment #2 Breana Rainge Delta Plastics, is a company that designs and manufactures plastic containers for household and kitchen use. The R&D group working for Delta is constantly thinking of new ways to develop, design and produce new plastic materials for the company. The new containers that the R&D group is currently working on are designed to be able to be removed from the oven and immediately stored in the refrigerator if necessary, with no wait time to cool. The group will be looking to see if the new material can stand up to and pass the standard material now utilized at Delta Plastics, Inc. The group will conduct an investigation into how a total quality management program will help them produce this new super plastic material, why and how utilizing a definition of quality makes a difference in the production process of this new material, how defects in the quality dimensions will affect the new product and then give a recommendation as to what the company should do as far as producing this new material. Here are a few reasons on how the TQM Program can benefit your organization. A higher quality product is one benefit. By stressing the importance of quality products, your company will be able to focus more on creating the highest level of quality possible. Total Quality Management is a great benefit this way, because it helps you to constantly be aware of the quality level that is being produced by your products......

...at which we first start delta leaning (E/RE-0.25) and the price at which we would be working stock first, we can draw the following stock line: , where: P_n = stock price x_n = number of contracts jumper is willing to do at P_n P_StockFirst = price at which we would work an opportunity stock first P_FirstContract = price at which jumper would do its first contract (x = 1) P_DeltaLean = price at which we first start delta leaning Logic: When the opportunity size (Opp_Size) gets smaller, we should check if it is greater than the delta position we have on in contracts (z = ∆_actual/∆_option ) multiplied by our tolerance (n). If the condition is met, we will reference the stock price, the number of contracts we are willing to take at that price, and take off our deltas up to that contract number. For example, if the opportunity size is 100, the delta risk we have on in contracts is 51, and our tolerance is 2, if the stock is at〖 P〗_4, we will take off up to x_4 contracts since 51*2 > 100. If we do end up taking x_4 contracts and the price improves to〖 P〗_5 and z*n>Opp_size, we will take off x_5-x_4 contracts. Thus, as long as the opportunity is in the gap feed, we will keep the number of contracts that we take at each subsequent price level in memory and only be allowed to take up to x contracts if z*n > Opp_Size. If at any point the stock crosses our stock first price (P_StockFirst), we will hedge our deltas to zero by taking z ......

...CASE: Delta Plastics, Inc. (B) By Sarah Wolfe ITT Have you taken the time to look at your plastic containers? Well, if you do there is a chance that your containers have flaws and defects that are noticeable to the human eye. There are defects that do not get in the way of using the containers but for quality purposes, it still is a defect. Case Questions 1. Prepare a 3- sigma control chart for both production processes, using the new and standard (use the quality report in Delta Plastics, Inc. Case A, Chapter 5). Are both processes in control? What can you conclude? 2. Are both materials equally subject to the defects? 3. Given your findings, what advice would you give Jose? 1.
