...Distance learning is pretty much learning from a distance in a sense. Although it is more flexible than normal school it requires you to be on the computer all the time. Most of the students and faculty are all spread out over the world from different states. You complete all of your coursework online and communicate with your teachers and advisors also via internet through asynchronous communication. You will receive feedback from your teachers about your class work through an electronic forum. This forum will link private communication to you and your teachers as well as serve as a public communication for you and your class members. Everything is at your own pace but keep track of the due dates to maintain your attendance. Attendance is two days a week which means you must post a discussion response or complete other daily work at least two days of the week. Along with your daily coursework your participation grade will be responding to the discussion question posts made by your class members. This is called a threaded discussion because everyone in the class will respond to someone else’s posts. Your can also keep track of the work you complete by checking it off as you go. Talk- A message intended for your instructor concerning feedback you received on an assignment Inbox- A message responding to a classmate’s bio Tag- A message replying to a discussion question or discussion thread More- A message about a classmate’s hobby or outside interest Help- A message......

Motivation in Distance Learning

...Motivation in Distance Learning Distance learning is an advantageous method for obtaining a college degree. Students with full-time jobs, single parents, active military members and other people with daytime obligations typically can’t afford the time to attend class at a campus setting and choose an online option. Although distance learning has its many advantages, some students find it challenging to stay motivated in a setting where they don’t see their teacher face-to-face. Self-regulation is vital to staying motivated. Set Learning Goals If you are trying to stay motivated in completing an online degree, setting goals will help you through the process. According to Kathryn Ley, associate professor at University of Houston Clear Lake, setting learning goals is probably the most powerful process of self-regulation in terms of lending the most to learning outcomes. Students can start out by setting small goals that are easy to reach and then increase them over time. If a student is required to do work in a weaker subject he can slowly increase the amount of time he dedicates to that subject. A regulated plan will help keep the student motivated to stay on track to completing his studies. Listen to Music According to Plato, music is a more potent instrument than any other for education. We all relate to music differently, but some sources suggest that music can help motivate people to study. According to "Planet of Success," music is a wonderful method of arousing......

Online Learning Versus Traditional Learning

...Online learning is better than a traditional classroom setting and is also convenient. I agree with this because I am doing online learning. I believe that it accommodates the busy lives people have these days. Whether its working or raising a family, its hard to get to a traditional class on time versus getting on your computer at midnight and doing your course work. Some people think that there is too much time being spent on electronics as it is due to the fact that it runs their lives. But without electronics, where would we be now? We couldn’t track space shuttles or satellites without the help of computers. Computers have come along way since the 50’s. They are more advanced than they were back then. Another good thing about online learning versus traditional classroom learning is that you can study at your own leisure and at your own pace. You can’t do that in a traditional classroom learning setting. People without hectic lives prefer the traditional classroom learning so they can get the help from the teacher on a one on one level and be able to turn in assignments to a person not through a computer. They prefer more structured settings and being able to ask for help from fellow students also on a one on one level. I’ve done both, and I prefer the online learning due to more time to do assignments at my own pace and I don’t feel rushed. I felt rushed in a classroom setting. With online learning, you don’t have to worry about carrying books from......

Distance Learning

...Distance learning is completely different from campus learning. You are learning from a distance by being online. That changes everything you know about learning. Sure you are doing almost everything on a computer. But it’s the same as campus learning, because you still have a schedule to keep. The discussions are threaded. Just like any other group discussion forum, there is the person that starts to thread and the people who respond to that thread. It’s part of an electronic forum. The electronic forum is people get to the threaded discussions to either respond to other peoples responses or to respond to the original poster’s question. Now the good thing about distance learning is its asynchronous communication. With asynchronous communication there is a deadline for things, just like everything, but you don’t respond in person. You do it either by email or through the discussion forum. There is also feedback, which not only helps to the person taking the class, but also fellow classmates and the instructor in case there is confusion somewhere along the way. But you have to remember that this is part of the internet, meaning you have to have an active internet connection to use this. And you are graded on your participation. So do have to participate on discussions. There is: Main: You reply to a discussion question or discussion thread in the Main forum. Chat room: You respond to a classmate’s bio in the chat room. You also use this for messages about a......

E-Learning vs Traditional Learning

...ELearning VS Traditional Learning Rashonda Ocain COM 170 June 23, 2014 Professor Olson E-learning VS Traditional Learning Many Americans consider continuing their education every day, but do not know whether online or traditional education is the best fit. As technology progresses significantly, it has bearings on every area of life, even on the way of learning. Today’s way of living now gives students the option to not only attend school/class in a traditional classroom, but to also attend virtually. Therefore, if a student works full time and wants to attend school – he now has the option to attend online. Despite sharing some apparent similarities, the differences between traditional and online learning environments are extraordinary. Traditional and E-learning are suitable learning environments that have different executions in (a) scheduling and participation, (b) student/teacher relationships, and (c) assignments and test. The first distinctions between traditional learning and e-learning are scheduling and participation. Traditional classroom settings require a fixed environment, which reduces the amount of students that can learn at the same time. However, an online class allows thousands/millions of students to take the same course at one time. Moreover, traditional classes are not flexible. Traditional classrooms require that students and teachers show up for classes at a certain time, while online classrooms can be assessed anytime during the day.......

Leading the Distance Learning in Uae

...Introduction “Distance learning” is a field of education that focuses on teaching methods and technology with the aim of delivering teaching when the source of information and the learners are separated by time and distance, or both. The development of computers and the internet have made distance learning distribution easier and faster and have given rise to the “virtual university”, the entire educational offerings of which are conducted online. It is yet very important to understand: Why educational institutions might embrace distance learning? 1) Expanding access: distance education can assist in meeting the demand for education and training demand from the general populace and businesses, especially because it offers the possibility of a flexibility to accommodate the many time-constraints imposed by personal responsibilities and commitments. 2) Alleviate capacity constraints: being conducted off-site, the system reduces the demand on institutional infrastructure. 3) Making money from emerging markets: due to the increasing acceptance from the population of the value of lifelong learning, beyond the normal schooling age, the institutions can benefit financially from this by adopting distance education. 4) Catalyst for institutional transformation: the competitive modern marketplace demands rapid change and innovation, for which distance education programs can act as a catalyst. Research Problem: 1) Tough competition in the market of distance......

Traditional vs. Nontraditional Learning

...individual anyone could be. While direct and indirect learning are seen as effective solutions to gaining higher education, they differ in social interaction, hands-on learning, and organized scheduling. Many online and traditional students still work as professionals with full-time jobs. They’re parents with the responsibility of taking care of a family, live in the country or isolated counties, or happen to be retirees attempting to further their education or aspiring students who simply cannot afford to make the transition to attend college classes on campus so the online setting is the closest form of traditional education virtually possible for them to pursue a higher form of education. To make this determination, it is important to first evaluate whether or not patience, means and ability to pursue a degree of choice from a traditional institution as opposed to an online setting is possible. The computer-generated classroom is a key contributor to the educational community, causing establishments to begin practicing the same online prototypical as a form of training technical specialists in both private and public universities.
