Emerging Touchscreen Technology

Touchscreen displays are becoming more common than ever before. Almost every type of device you can buy has an option for touch screen; phones, computers, DVD players and also televisions. It is becoming more beneficial to use rather than the old fashion push in button. One of the many benefits of having a touch screen is that it is much more convenient for those with larger hands. Many cell phones that we used to carry had such small buttons; you would literally have to use your finger nails to press them in. Also, there would be complaints about buttons sticking, and breaking off, making them nearly impossible to use. According to the article Touch Screen vs. Tactile Controls, the only benefit the button has over touchscreen is that you won’t have as many smears on the screen. Even though the cost to have a touchscreen is almost double that of a push button, consumers seem to want to keep upgrading their devices, just to have the next best thing. And as more companies started to develop full touch screen cell phones, other devices were stepping up.
Touchscreen Today
The tablet is one of the most convenient devices you would want to own. Your tablet is like a mobile computer, like a laptop but a little more discreet and easy to carry. Unlike the laptop, a tablet can use 3G to connect to the internet from almost anywhere. A disadvantage of the tablet compared to a laptop, is the fact that you can’t use it in your lap, therefore you would have to hold it. It is very hard to hold a tablet and use your hands at the same time. The only beneficial way to use it is to buy a stand for it. Many companies have integrated their systems within the tablet, and you are able to access features in your home through your tablet device. According to VanCamps article ATT’s Digital Life, AT&T has developed a security system where you are able to control your home without even being there. You can turn on your thermostat twenty minutes before you leave work, so that it is at a desired temperature when you arrive home. They have also developed devices you have place in your home that can assist in unlocking your door, turning on your lights, as well as letting up your blinds, all from your tablet.
Melanie Pinola states in her article Why Would I Want a Touch Screen PC that “depending on who you ask, touch screen computers may become the future of computing; mostly because of its education factor”. Many libraries and schools today use systems like the hp touch smart computer. Computers like this have a lot of memory and acquire many people to use them. Its main function in schools is to allow small children to interact and learn how a computer works step by step. Because most children have the inability to use a mouse correctly, touching the screen helps them learn what happens when certain navigation is selected. One big downfall is that the computers would smudge with the use of small children, even with this disadvantage; the benefits are much more valuable. It seems that more children are starting to learn about technology today then from when it first came out. People want to expose a new way of learning to their children that may be more beneficial. The question is, will it actually help them want to learn, or will they just want to play with the technology? Paying your bill at a restaurant has become more convenient than ever, and according to bbmlive, “the Check 1-2 is a restaurant billing system that aims to replace the physical bill check with a digital one. This means customers can split and pay their check without leaving their table or doing some dodgy long division on a napkin”. It gives you the option to pay by cash, card, and even PayPal; which would be a great gesture if you forgot to bring your wallet. Companies always seem to be finding new ways to make life more accessible. Some restaurants have gone totally technical. When you arrive at the restaurant you are seated by the greater; at your table is a touchscreen menu allowing you to scroll through and select what you want. When you are ready to order, you just add your items to a cart and select checkout. You orders go straight to the kitchen, and the server brings them out when they are ready. Need a refill? Well there is also a button for that; your waiter receives a buzz from your table number. You can also order your dessert when you’re almost finished with your food. This type of technology is great if you don’t like your waiter at your table every 5 minutes. However, many people think that restaurants should appeal more on customer service and interact with their customers.
Ever drop you phone in the toilet? Well you’re in luck; Talking with a Palm written by Seth Radhika states that Apple is coming out with a lot of different devices, you may have never seen before. A watch with a projection screen enabling you to use a smartphone on the palm of your hand. The watch being on your wrist frees your hands from holding the actual device. Using pin points in your hand, allow you to be able to select the apps you want and when you are done, you can simply hide the projection. Easy as pie! This will also help out a lot with phone theft.
What’s New?
I think as the evolution of video games evolves more, we will start to see more touch screen. Right now, Nintendo has the Wii U; which involves a touch screen pad with controls on each side. From my own experience the Wii U touch display has a slow reaction time compared to the smart phones we use today. The display cannot do everything our smart phones can do, such as flipping the screen or minimizing and expanding. The screen is wider than the average phone, making it easier to touch and view movies, but it becomes hard to play games with such a wide game pad. With that being said, it is almost safe to say that the Wii is the first to acquire touch pads for games. Even though it is lagging behind a bit, I think Xbox and PlayStation are in the works to develop a great touch system. Even though the Xbox One doesn’t use the physical touch, you can use hand gestures along with your Kinects device to access the ability of touch. Pretty soon you will see all game controllers with a touch screen. I can see guitar hero being played with touch pads, which would be better if you hate trying to press down the buttons. The faster you have to press the buttons the worse the playing gets. Misa Digital has already come out with a touchscreen guitar, which allows you to play music as if you were on an actual electric guitar. The design has no strings and a built in flat screen touch panel; it allows you to play digital screens or just play by a simple touch of the hand and according to engadget.com, Misa Digital's string-less Kitara runs you about $849.00. Now I’m not saying that game prices will skyrocket when they fully develop touch; I think that when they are fully accessible, people won’t really have the need for one. Coca-Cola is showing up the drink world with their touch-screen vending machine called the Freestyle. I had a chance to experience things for myself when I walked into my local Wendy’s. You no longer have to tell the cashier what you want to drink; they just simply hand you a cup, and you walk to the machine. David Winzelberg’s article “Everything You Need to Know about Coca-Cola Freestyle” states that “the Freestyle offers over 100 different selections”. When you select an original coke, you also have the option to mix in syrup flavors such as orange or raspberry, giving you a new taste to your favorite drink. What makes the Freestyle so unique is that you cannot find their flavors anywhere else; and for myself, I had raspberry Minute maid lemonade, which made my experience at Wendy’s a little more interesting.

My visions
My thoughts are that I do believe the future will change tremendously; I can see a touch screen on the front of a refrigerator. When it is touched, the door goes clear and you would be able to see the contents inside. When you buy food, you can enter the expiration dates of each product. The touchscreen will display what food items have expired or is about to expire. A touch screen calendar could also come in good handy, your children can add their practice times and rehearsals on the calendar, which would also notify any device connected to it. When it is almost time for one of the events, it would have a digital voice notify you throughout the home.
I could also see in the future, the use of a touch screen (chalk board) that would be used in schools. Instead of using chalk or makers, teachers would be able to use a stylus. It would be very useful because you would be able to create a space for one subject, and then use your hands to minimize that portion to free up space for the next subject, that way you can always refer back to the subjects for a recap. I think it would be a great idea, because if a teacher wants to continue talking about that topic next week, she can save that chalkboard and bring it back up another day, sort of like our saved documents. I could also see this type of technology used in business, but instead a touch screen conference table. Imagine uploading your notes directly to your spot at the table. You don’t have to hand out packets to everyone, when they can simply swipe from page to page at their own location at the table.
Imagine sharing a picture or document on your phone by just using a swipe of your finger. This would be much simpler to do, and would take no time at all. I’m sure with the advancement in technology; we would be there in no time. Can you imagine wanting a coworker to add the finishing touches to a project because you are late for a meeting. Instead of waiting for the document to send, he could walk right over and swipe it to a phone or tablet, then swipe in back on his computer. There is a much simpler way of doing things that technology has yet to being, allowing us to quickly access content as well as take it on the go. The world of touch screen technology has emerged so quickly, the possibilities have become endless. It seems like everyday someone is coming out with something different. 500 years from now, we could possibly be paying by thumb print. Though it is making life more accessible, the question to answer is, do I really need it? With all the thoughts of emerging technology floating in the air, the only true thought is wondering if you will be around to see it.

...BLOG Emerging IT Technologies Have you seen the Iron Man movies? Imagine working like Tony Stark. On that movie alone, there are lots of ideas that popped out for new technologies. Now, a majority of these are not real. But in the rapid evolution of information technology, that time when we use the stuff Tony Stark uses might be sooner than we think. Here are a few samples of the technologies that are emerging right now: 1. Gesture Recognition Using gesture recognition and Computer vision control technology, we can make some tasks easier. It is also being used In Xbox 360’s kinect. This can become quite useful in the future. It is even being considered in the field of surgery – a very delicate field. In the movies, we can see Tony stark making hand gestures with his UI. It is awesome because the information is displayed right in front of him. He performs a lot of activities with his hands. Where could we apply this? I can imagine using this technology in manufacturing where small and delicate parts are inspected manually on some departments. Hand gesture could be used with a powerful camera and mechanical arms that allows the inspector to check very small equipment by having it displayed on a big screen, not through a device that looks like a microscope. And using his or her hand gestures, the camera and the mechanical arm can be controlled using hand gestures. That will simplify and make the job a lot easier. The inspection will be more accurate as......

Influences of Emerging Technology

...Influences of emerging technology The impact of new and emerging technology on the global scale depends very much on the same factors that influence local acceptance and uptake. There are countries with different levels of industrialisation, technology infrastructure and wealth. Also political cultural and economic forces in present help various technologies succeed in some area and hinders them in others. If there is a rise in acceptance in technology it could create manufacturing opportunities. China with its huge population combined with political and cultural change has become the favoured location for many manufacturing industries. Countries with strong economic growth and population and a good disposable income are very accepting to the rapid uptake of technology. At the moment there is an enormous growth in information and communication fields. This has created a significant social change. (p167) Copy paragraph p168. Emerging technologies often result from an unorthodox combination of existing entities. The focus of these new technologies lies in the areas of: * Group collaboration on tasks * Next generation internet architecture that facilitates smoother communication * Real-world web services It is the norm to have multidisciplinary teams from around the globe working on one project. ...Running head: EMERGING ISSUES Assignment #2 Emerging Issues Task Force   Abstract In 1982, the Financial Accounting Foundation Structure Committee produced a report on operating efficiency that indicated a need for more timely guidance on implementation questions. That report resulted in the formation of an advisory group, which evolved into the Emerging Issues Task Force (EITF). This task force was established to assist the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) in improving financial reporting through the timely identification, discussion, and resolution of financial accounting issues. (FASB, 2011) This paper discusses and explores the EITF in greater detail. Discuss how the Emerging Issues Task Force influences Generally Accepted Accounting Standards. The Emerging Issues Task Force (EITF) was formed in 1984 to respond to the recommendations of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) task force on timely financial reporting guidance. The EITF influences general accepted accounting standards by providing improved financial reporting through timely identification, discussion, and resolutions within the framework of an existing authority. The EITF designed to reduce diversity in practice on current issues in a quick and timely manner that should not exceed three to four annual meetings. This advisory board also minimizes the need for the FASB to spend time and effort addressing narrow implementation, application, or other emerging issues......

...ERP and Emerging Technologies Abstract The ability of a company to manage its resources is critical to its success. In the past half-century there have been many technological advances in the way that information is used within business. With the invention of the Internet all sizes of companies are able to operate in a global economy. It has enabled small companies to compete against the largest corporations by allowing the fast free flow of information, leveling the playing field for business. During1980s traditional Management Information Systems were the main source of data within a company. Fast forward to the 1990s where virtually anyone with a computer can access as much information as the largest of corporations. The millennium has lead to further advances in the ways that people and business access this information. Information is limited and requires system programmers to extract the data for specific uses with the organization. As the global economy has opened new markets for companies, the need for accurate free flowing information is seen by many in management as essential to being successful. Companies in order to compete must ask themselves many questions about how to compete in this information age. The question is no longer, where can I get the information I need? The question is now, what new sources of technology are going to enable me to capture information easily about customers and how are we going to process that information to give us an......

...Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC): A Survey Abstract: Mobile devices have come a long way and their capabilities in terms of speed, raw computing capabilities, storage capacity and the applications that are real world end user friendly. The sale of mobile devices has seen a huge boom and is now surpassing those of PCs [1]. With this enormous use of smart phones across the world and as well as the introduction of cloud computing concept, Mobile Cloud computing or MCC has become the new paradigm in the world of mobile services. This paper will discuss the technology of MCC, applications and challenges faced. Mobile Cloud Computing: Introduction MCC in its simplest form can be defined as an infrastructure where the storage of data and its processing is outside a mobile device. What mobile cloud computing does is move processing and storage to the cloud and thereby bringing applications and the computing power to a broader spectrum of mobile users [2]. Mobile service providers can provide services to the subscribers as AAA which refers to authentication, authorization and as well as accounting which is based on what is known as an home agent or HA and the end users data being stored on the cloud database. Every time a request is initiated from the subscriber, it is delivered to the cloud based system with the help of Internet. The controllers on the cloud will be able to process these requests and eventually providing the subscribers with the respective cloud based service. ......

...Name Course Current & Emerging Technology Running a start-up company is a fairly easy task to take with basic business administrative skills. The problem start to arise when the business is showing progress and growth and expansion is imminent. At this juncture of growth, two things unfold for the business. The business earns more profits due to customer base growth, also known as economies of scale and also the business may run into difficulties in the daily running, also known as diseconomy of scale (Ordóñez et al, 2012). In Simple Gateways, growth is finally a reality and hence creeps in this diseconomy of scale. Communication is vital in any organization or company, and as such it is paramount that the communication be flawless. Communication in Simple Gateways is marred by a flawed system; this brings multiple problems to the company in terms of efficiency, accuracy and time management. Key stakeholders are affected negatively by the current inefficient system. Information is not easily disseminated between departments; this greatly hampers the progress of the company and promotes the redundancy in record keeping. Much improvement needs to be done to salvage the situation. Information should be readily available for all the stakeholders on demand. Whether it is between managers or subordinates, there should be a smooth and steady flow of information. There should be an effective system implemented for further future growth and efficiency. Emerging Mobile Technologies

...Emerging Mobile Technologies: I am always interested in learning about emerging technologies.. The technology I want to discuss is not new because it has already been started by Google years ago but now Apple has come in the picture to introduce the same sort of technology (Apple Pay) but with different dimensions. Apple engaged all the major banks of United States in to this technology to make it more secure and reliable. Apple pay is a new way of conducting transactions using iPhone 6, iPhone 6 plus and iPhone watch. The way it works is that the user can store all the credit card and debit card information in their respective iPhone/Apple Watch and once their information is validated from their bank they no longer need to carry the big wallet full of cards. Instead they can pay using their iPhone or apple watch without sliding a card and giving any account information to the cashier. "Apple Pay relies on near field communications (NFC), a secure chip on the iPhone 6 to mask credit card numbers and a system that delivers a one-time number to retailers to close transactions. Apple also said it won't track what you've bought or what you paid for it. Toss in TouchID as a verification tool and Apple Pay may have enough secret sauce to be a payment player" (Larry Dignan, 09/10/2014, zdnet.com). Apple pay is just not limited to in store purchases but is also available for online purchasing. Apple pay users will not have to fill any forms online anymore or enter their account...

...Emerging Technologies Introduction The technology of today’s world has advanced with a rapid pace in the last 30 years. Products which were not deemed possible or were only parts of science fiction are now materializing right before our eyes. Science and Technology have enable mankind to travel to the moon and to manufacture products on the microscopic scale. This is truly a world of emerging technologies and the advancement of scientific knowledge. The emerging technology that I am going to discuss for project is 4G (4th Generation) Cellular communication technology. Cell phones and wireless technology are now embedded in our lives and our social survival depends upon these products (Annadata, 2010). So it is only natural that this field of communication has much faster advancement rate than any other technological field. 4G technology in cell phone communication basically refers to the advancement of certain features in cell phones like the provision of ultra-high speed internet access, IP telephony, high definition gaming service, high definition mobile TV, the option of video conferencing and potential aspect of 3D television viewing. 4G is a successor to the 3G mobile technology and improves on many of its aspects and features. The data transmission speed is much higher in this technology and it provides nearly 300 mbps of data transfer rate compared to the 3.1 mbps rate of 3G. The uploading rate of this technology has also increased from 50 Mb/s to an amazing 500......

...Communication. A convenient life comes with a price. Jeremy Johnson University of Maryland University College Near Field Communication. A convenient life comes with a price. Technology has been on a tremendous up rise in the past years, with the increasing technology come increasing ethical issues. Nothing in this world is perfect, so down sides to technology is expected. For example, personally I never buy the first edition of any new product, like a gaming system or a phone usually because the kinks aren’t ironed out at the time of release. A popular technology that is being put in new electronic devices to make life easier is Near Field Communication (NFC). NFC is a short range wireless communication technology that enables devices designed to establish radio communications with each other by being touched together or brought within a short distance. The NFC standard regulates a radio technology that allows two devices to communicate when they are in close proximity, usually no more than a few centimeters, allowing for more secure exchange of information. NFC came out Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID), is the technology used by shipping companies and in superstores to keep track of goods, it uses electromagnetic induction in order to transmit information (Egan 2013). NFC is similar technology, but made better equip for consumer smartphones and other devices. NFC can work in three different modes NFC target, NFC initiator, and NFC peer to peer. An NFC......

...MBA 540 Information Systems Emerging Technology Professor Voight September 11, 2012 For this research assignment we were to focus on emerging technologies for the Internet, within this category I am going to focus on the importance of smart phones and mobile devices. The first cell phone was unveiled in 1983 and has come a long way since then. Cell phones were first given the ability to connect to the Internet in 1999. This is nowhere close to what we think of today when we access the Internet on our phones today. The first smartphone, PalmOne Treo 600, was unveiled in 2003 and was the first successful merger of a cell phone and PDA. Cell phones in our society are more like computers than a phone. Most cell phones today are considered smartphones, and more people than not own a smartphone. Smartphones and mobile devices are changing the way companies conduct business, communicate, and make sales. When discussing smartphones and mobile devices the word apps, short for applications, often comes up. An app is an application, typically a small, specialized program downloaded onto mobile devices. Apps are designed to do any number of specific things, such as calculate tips, GPS navigation, provide entertainment, and many more. For example, Brinks home security systems offer an application that allows users to arm and disarm their alarm system on their device. Craftsman also has an app that allows a mobile user to check if their garage door is open or shut as well as......
