The Doctrine of Last Things

Question. Can someone tell us this morning what the word “eschatology” means?

1. Any system of doctrines concerning last, or final, matters, as death, the Judgment, the future state. 2. The branch of theology dealing with such matters.

There are several branches of theology found in Scripture. 1. The first is “Bibliology.” The Bible is the starting point, or the source, of our religion. Without it, we may as well be at home it the bed this morning, or perhaps on the golf coarse, fishing, maybe lying out at the beach. The Bible is the foundation for Christianity. Without the Bible, how would we know about God? The Bible is the standard, the criterion for everything we as believers do. It is simply put, how God speaks to mankind. 2. Theology Proper: The study of God. Without it, we would have no way to view God. To understand His nature. We would not know who God is. We would not understand the personality of God. The wisdom of God, the love of God, and so on. 3. Christology: The doctrine of Jesus Christ. Need I say more about this? 4. Pneumatology: The study of the Holy Spirit. 5. Angelology: The study of angels. 6. Satanology: Yelp, the study of Satan.

There are more, but you get the idea of how much theology is in Scripture. The last study of systematic theology is Eschatology, which means the study of last things.

The study of eschatology is the study of last things, however, like the underlying theme of all theology is Jesus Christ.
The first verse of the book of Revelation sets the tone. “1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants…”

Eschatology is not a study of just prophecy, although it includes that.
Biblical eschatology deals with end things in two specific areas. First, it involves the future of the physical world and all that includes the second…...

Eschatology

...A. Introduction Eschatology is a Christian Doctrine that refers to the end times of the universe as in general or death of a person as singular. The diverse cultures therein the Melanesian realm also employs diverse philosophies of life in relation to death and related aspects to it. This work seeks to identify a cultural model to compare and contrast with the Christian Doctrine of Eschatology, one that could be useful to explain eschatology to its relevant congregation. It is a wide topic of discussion which does not fall within the scope of this work. It will only present an overview of the Christian Doctrine and my traditional culture of North Pentecost. This is to clarify why it could be possible to use that cultural model to explain eschatology to its relevant congregation. Therefore it will elaborate on these viewpoints; * What is Eschatology * Pentecost Model * Life * Environment/Space * Comparison and Contrast * Similarities * Differences * Reason why it is a possible model A. What is Eschatology Eschatology means the science or teachings concerning the last things derive from the Greek word eschatos which means last and eschata which means the last things. It is a study that specifically concerns with the end times. What it is to come at the end of one’s life or the destiny of humanity. Therefore, Christianity views history or time as linear not cyclical. At the very early stage of Christian community, they interpreted it......

...the possibility of assigning such a date, which diverges considerably from what is usually taken for granted, does not even occure to most scholars, since the conclusion of their investigation is clearly determined by a prior methodological assumption: since the common assumption is that both Mark and Matthew were written in the second half of the first century, the SynApoc must also belong to this period or even precede it. In my opinion, however, for various reasons, it is highly questionable whether the customary and generally accepted dating of Mark's gospel around 70 CE is correct. Whoever concerns himself with the question of when the Synoptic Gospels arose quickly notices that he has hit upon a genuine weak point in the scholarly study of the New Testament. While elsewhere New Testament scholars bring to bear on particular exegetical questions an extravagant richness and admirable knowledge of historical details, they become remarkably curt with regard to the dating of the Synoptic Gospels. This can hardly surprise in view of the limited, vague criteria employed T I. The Synoptic Apocalypse and the Dating of the Synoptic Gospels. * Translated by Michael Conley and Darrell Doughty. On the one hand, one emphasizes, correctly, that the ecclesiastical tradition regarding the......

The Thing

...August Creepypasta Book Club: The Gift of Fear August 2, 2015 at 1:01 AM It’s been awhile since we did a book club post, huh? I had originally intended to post this in July instead of the Discussion Post; however, so much crap was happening on the back-end side of the site (multiple DDoS attacks, the submission form turning evil after the last plugin update and causing the server to overload itself, etc) as well as various offline issues that I ended up just having to shelve this post until things were a bit calmer. So if you were wondering why there was no Discussion Post last month, that’s why. I had originally intended to have submissions re-opened (check the sidebar Submission Status for the latest update on this; please don’t derail this post with questions that are already answered there – when submissions re-open, it will be a separate post) all the way back in the beginning of July; so I had felt that having that announcement + Discussion + Book Club would have left the front page looking a tad too bloated. But it seems the site had other ideas about how things should play out, so here we are. Better late than never, right? SO. The book that we’re going to talk about this month is very well-known; given that it’s almost twenty years old and spent a lot of time on the Best Seller list, many of you have probably heard of it already. However, it’s striking how well it’s held up and how relevant it remains – many of the scenarios the author details are still......

The Last

...Benjamin Lucas COMM240 – Interpersonal Paper The Last I recall a brightly lit room on a Sunday morning, as I kissed her on the forehead, “I love you…” Slowly she opened her eyes and as she sat next to me, “Hey… Um… How many were there before me?” she asked. “Like, how many girls did you love before me?” “Love? Five…” I stated. “I loved five women before you.” The disappointment in her eyes after a sigh, though she smiled… “What are their names?” “…Who, What, When, Where, Why…” I said to her. “Can you tell me about them?” “Who I loved, was a girl from college. I wasn’t exactly close to her, but with some superficial facts and a few interactions over a semester, you know, like most guys fantasizing over girls they barely know, I filled in the blanks like a fairytale author. And who she became in my head was probably more than the reality. She was a third year, sorority girl, and yeah, I was an infatuated freshman, sure, but the several times you get to spend together outside of class… It really allowed me to see, she also had a good heart and a bright spirit. The only problem was, so did just about every other guy. And while she turned me down nicely, I swear… There were times when it seemed like the cliché sorority girl may have felt something for the typical awkward freshman.” “What I loved, was an old friend, but she was more than just a friend. We met early in college and kept in touch through the years. We saw each other grow, and change...

“Eschatology: the Destiny of the Unsaved”

...“Eschatology: The Destiny of the Unsaved” Reconciling a good, loving God with the idea of eternal punishment is one of the most difficult things I have had to do in my Christian life. How can a God who loves us enough to shed His own blood for us then, at the end of our lives, send some of us away from Him to be punished forever? There are some different theories about what happens to us after we die. Eternal punishment is the idea that sin must be punished and those who have not received the gift of salvation will be punished forever for their sins. Annihilationism is the idea that, rather than eternal punishment, some souls will simply cease to exist. There are three main forms of this. The first says that all human beings simply cease to exist at death. The second says that God imparts immorality to the redeemed human beings and allows the rest of humankind to cease to exist at death. The third says that humankind is immortal and fulfills its destiny in salvation. In this third form of annihilationism, reprobates cease to exist, either by a direct act of God or by the corrosive effect of evil. Universalism claims that all will be saved. The Bible uses some different words when referring to a place of torment. Sheol is the word used in the Hebrew texts to describe a place where all souls go after death. Hades is the Greek equivalent. Sheol is a much broader word referring simply to the place where souls go upon death. Hades narrows the concept somewhat and separates...

Eschatology

... (Name) (Instructors’ name) (Course) (Date) Influence of Zoroastrian Eschatology Having faith in things that happens after life in this world is one of the teachings that are brought out in the Zoroastrian scriptures as from the beginning. This faith that started during the ancient times continued growing and finally it became the pillar of the later Zoroastrian hence the basis of almost all the aspects of human religious life. As a result of this faith other religions also felt its impact more specifically on Judaism then later on Christianity and Islam. Zoroastrian eschatology basically brings to conclusion the creation story, how the world exists as is depicted in the sources from the later Zoroastrian and this formed the basis for Ohrmazd and Ahriman’s battle. Contrary to this, monotheism brings out the existence of only one supreme that has control over everything. This paper will discuss the influence of the Zoroastrian eschatology and the impact it had on religious life afterwards. Conclusion of human existence comes when life on this world comes to an end; this eschatological period brings to an end the cosmic struggle and brings out the fruits of the efforts of Ohrmazd, having the assistance of other humanities hence bringing out the notion that there is victory in the good deeds (Faith 19). On the other hand eschatology is used to reflect the moral life and religion on earth, this has been compare to the justice courts where motivation and punishments are rewarded...

Eschatology

...What is Christian Eschatology? Subscribe to our Question of the Week: Christian Eschatology Question: "What is Christian Eschatology?" Answer: Eschatology is the study of what the Bible says is going to happen in the end times. Many treat Eschatology as an area of theology to be avoided. Of course, Eschatology is not as crucial as Christology or Soteriology. That does not mean, though, that it is unimportant to a Biblical worldview. How we understand Eschatology has an impact on how we should live our lives and what we are to expect to occur in God's plan. Some important issues in Eschatology are these: What is the Rapture? The word "rapture" does not occur in the Bible. The concept of the Rapture, though, is clearly taught in Scripture. The Rapture of the church is the event in which God removes all believers from the earth in order to make way for His righteous judgment to be poured out on the earth during the Tribulation period. When is the Rapture going to occur in relation to the Tribulation? Will the Rapture occur before the Tribulation, at the middle of the Tribulation, or at the end of the Tribulation? What is the Second Coming and why is it important? Why is it so important for Jesus Christ to return? When is Christ going to return? What will be the signs of Christ's return? Is the millennium literal or figurative? The fulfillment of many of God’s covenants and promises rest on a literal, physical, future kingdom. There is no......

Question-1: Analyze Coca-Cola and its business strategy using the value chain and competitive forces models. Answer: Firm Level A value chain is a chain of activities for a firm operating in a specific industry. The business unit is the appropriate level for construction of a value chain, not the divisional level or corporate level. Products pass through all activities of the chain in order, and at each activity the product gains some value. The chain of activities gives the products more added value than the sum of the independent activity's value. Activities The value chain categorizes the generic value-adding activities of an organization. The & quot; primary activities & quot; include: inbound logistics, operations (production), outbound logistics, marketing and sales (demand), and services (maintenance). Moreover, the most important thing about Coca-Cola that we found was that the brand name and the colour have the same meaning in every culture, and that is why it is the only trademark that exists in almost every country on Earth. When the time was up the tutor told each group to select one member to present the group findings to the class. That was not my favourite part, I hate standing in front of people and I would do anything to avoid it. We were group one just next to the tutor. I told my teammates that I was not very good in presentation and I should not be considered as a presenter. I thought I did the right thing to let them know about my weakness. However, little did I know that the tutor was just next to me and he was listening? Unexpectedly the tutor told everyone to be quiet, and he then asked me to present to the class our group findings. I was like what the?, I was awfully shaken, one of my friends in a group started loudly cheering for me “ go Agok go Agok…”. I awkwardly told him to stop that cheering. What was fascinating was that even though the first minute was harder I realised that the longer I stand in front of the class the easier it becomes. As I walked out after tutorial, I was so happy because I felt somewhat confident that I would be all right next time. Even if I feel confident in front of the class in the last part of my presentation, I will need to practice presenting very often, not just......
