A Brighter Tomorrow
A Brighter Tomorrow

Once a child in foster care turns 18, they age out of foster care. Many of these teens have neither any one nor nowhere to go. About 20,000 teens will age of foster care every year. When most of these teen are forced out of the system, they don’t have the skills needed to live independently. They lack education, life skills, job skills, and coping skills. Pera,E. (2009) A Brighter Tomorrow (ABT) is a nonprofit residential program, which will provide these emancipated teens the skills needed to live independently. ABT offers educational classes that will assist the teens with getting their high school diplomas, or their GEDs. The facts show that 50% of foster children drop out of high school and on average, only 7-13% of foster youth enroll in higher education. ABT will also provide life skills courses, job readiness skills, and skills needed to run a household like how to pay house hold bills, budgeting and how to balance a check book. A Brighter Tomorrow will also provide counseling to help identify and help with any issues the teens may have. A Brighter Tomorrow will also offer Planned Parenthood and parenting classes, because the statistics show that by the age of 19, girls who had been in foster care were two and a half times more likely than were girls nationwide to have become pregnant and nearly three times more likely to have had a child. These classes will be offered to help reduce these grim statistics. ABT will not only offer parenting classes to our female clients but also the male clients also will be offered these classes. The statistics about males’ roles in teen pregnancies were not much better; nearly one half of 21year old men who had aged out of the foster care system reported having gotten someone pregnant, compared with one fifth of…...

...them. Growing up and attending the many family events that were regularly planned, there was often talk of many different minority groups between the adults. As a child, most of it did not make too much sense but now that I am older and can reflect on some of the overhead conversations, I now realize just how racist certain member of my extended family really were. I do not believe that I was aware of a line between races until one was drawn for me between my family and my school. Luckily, my friends and my immediate family members are wise enough not to let these outside influences effect their judgment when it comes to minorities and I believe that is what saved me from becoming partly racist myself. We were never a family that took a big part in our community. We did not go to church, social events, community gatherings, or anything of the like regularly and as a result, my exposure to different people and different cultures was very limited. As I got even older and began to pay attention to news and media, I noticed how much the media focused interracial issues whether it was good or bad, it was always something about race. My first job was with an independently owned medical transcription company called Advanced Transcription Services. The company was owned by the family of one of my best friends at the time and it was working with this group of people that I was introduced to my first refreshing glimpse of equality. One of the family members that worked there was a......

...Final Paper ETH125 Dr. Smalls Final Paper * * This class has taught me many things about the diversity in the United States. I always knew that we were a melting pot, but did not fully grasp how many different cultures and religions we actually do have here. However, I did not learn anything new about my race or ethnicity. I am German and Colombian and consider myself Caucasian. * * If trends in immigration continue to grow as they have been I feel that the population in the United States will be mostly African Americans and Hispanics. I say this because they are the Majority of the minorities we have here. Eventually they will be equal to the amount of whites we have and from their rise to greater numbers. * * The United States face many challenges due to the diversity of people we have here. Those challenges include difference such as religion, racism, and prejudice. People from different parts of the world practice different beliefs, which is not a bad thing. However, there are people who were raised to believe that some people are inadequate or “below” them. Prejudice is a serious matter as it is never okay to discrimate against any person or group of people soley because they do not think the same way as you. * * Having diversity in a society does have benefits also. People who are open minded are given the chance to learn about new cultures and religion that they would normally not have the chance to see first hand. This......

Ge273 Final Project Part 1

...Terry Knight GE273 Project Part I In today’s economy consumers are more careful with their purchases. With unemployment and cost of just about everything up and people’s incomes the only thing that isn’t increasing its quite understandable as to why they are. Consumers are not going to spend frivolously on items they don’t need or are considered luxuries. On the other hand though they will purchase items that are what they may consider necessities. Let’s look at the items put before us here. Barns and Noble books have an estimated price elasticity of -4.00. I would consider this price to be elastic because books from Barns and Noble are mostly purchased for entertainment and pleasure. With today’s technology and books being available in so many different formats, such as audio books, the internet, kindles and electronic pads just to mention a few, Barns and Noble need a little elasticity in their price. Books now have many substitutes rather than just being in print and bound by two covers. The next item for review is Coca-Cola. Coke has an estimated price elasticity of -1.22 and I would consider this price to be elastic. Coke is price elastic, not because it’s a luxury or people derive pleasure from consuming it, but because there are so many substitutes out on the market. Good competition in a free market place can help keep prices low. Now let’s look at cigarettes and beer which have an estimated price elasticity of -.25 and -.23 respectfully. These items I would......

Final Project Part 1

...Final Project Part One Amanda Schneider Ethics in the Legal Environment LS312-03 February 17, 2014 Final Project Part One Immanuel Kant is the founder of the ethical theory untitled the categorical imperative. This theory is based on ethical decisions being universal to everyone in society. Being universal to society means that everyone in society would do the same thing. Kant goes further in his analysis by saying that someone’s motives must be pure. A motive is considered pure as long as it is not selfish. So to apply this theory you must test both the motive behind the action as well as the universality to the action (The Kaplan eGuide to Ethics and the Legal Environment, 2013). To examine the scenario given for this assignment you must first identify the action. In this case the action being examined is whether or not it is ethical for one board member to use their board member status when dealing with personal business contacts. The first part of Kant’s theory states that a person’s motives must be pure. In this case the board member’s motive are not pure. They want to use the board’s good name to further his personal business connections. This motive is selfish as it only produces a positive effect for the board member’s personal business. This board member is not acting with a pure motive and therefore fails the first part of Kant’s theory. Next you must apply this action universally. What would happen if every board member was allowed......

Moore Kaplan University GM505 Action Research and Consulting Skills Dr. Heidi Gregory-Mina, MBA, MS  August 26, 2014 Part One Final Project This project takes a look at implementing a new software application process for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) Outdoor Advertising Office (ODA), the stakeholders that will be affected by the new software, its expectations, the data methods that will be used, and the ground work involved. This software program is definitely needed and I believe that all parties involved will be pleased with its results. Scope and Purpose Georgia Department of Transportation Outdoor Advertising (ODA) is a department that allows companies to build billboard structures along the State of Georgia’s Right of Way. The application process is a two-part tedious process that includes a 7-page application for a Sign Permit and a 16-page application for a Vegetation Permit. Both applications require several other pages of documentation as well. Currently the process is based on a lot of paper pushing and the department would like to make it web accessible allowing applications to be uploaded on line for review including the capability for applicants to make all payments online also. Currently everything is submitted via the mail or walked into our office. Making the application web based will not only save the organization time and excessive amounts of paper but it will do the same......

We are self-employed consultants that have no allegiance to a particular company and must sign an agreement to that affect. The question at hand is can one of the directors call their personal potential clients and state, “I am calling as a director of the Energy Cooperative.” Should we allow the directors state such a thing when calling their clients? Does this affect the Energy Cooperative? What is the best solution? We are going to look over the 5 theories to see if this would be ethical or unethical. We are going to look at the ethical issues that would allow or prevent the Energy Cooperative from doing so. First I will examine John Locke’s Theory of Rights. Eth125 Checkpoint 1

...ETH125 Week 7 Checkpoint 1 The first article that I have found goes into detail of the time lines of when and how we started to actually mandate how bilingualism is taught in the public school districts. It is a very long and drawn out article that states what bilingualism is about and how it benefits the students that use it. The article also describes what the author knows about bilingualism and how statistics show that Latino scores are improved by taking these classes. http://www.gwu.edu/~ccps/pop_billing.html The next article that I have found is one that also is for bilingualism in public school. It states the statistics of how and why children improve scores and grades form taking another language in college, not high school. It says that when children take these classes in high school, they do not get enough of it to learn as much as they could. http://www.nctimes.com/news/opinion/columnists/riehl/article_41791d70-d500-5746-90a5-9f39e9953be9.html This article is against bilingualism in politics because it is said that it is dangerous because maybe people will forget where they are form if they speak another language. I do not think this is the case but Newt Gingrich does. It is also said that English is what holds us all together and that if we stray to another language it would not be beneficial to us as Americans, again I do not agree. http://articles.latimes.com/1995-10-31/news/mn-63269_1_official-language This article talks about our......
