Lindsey hall p.1 Today I am interviewing Sonya from Guatemala. She was visiting on a student visa. Then got married to a permanent resident and retained her green card.
Me: What inspired you to become a U.S citizen?
Sonya: Well, there is much more opportunities for me here in the states. My education will improve here, the job opportunities are much higher & well paying for my future family.
Me: What steps did you have to take as part of the naturalization process?
Sonya: At first, I was in college in Guatemala, I then got a student visa to come here and go to school and have an internship in my future field I was studying in. My visa was only for the summer. I signed up for my permanent green card. I knew I wouldn’t retain it right away because no one does. I did end up finding my husband and we ended up getting married not to long after we met. I then retained citizenship through the marriage shortly after.
Me: How would you describe how you felt about the process?
Sonya: I felt it was a hassle and a struggle and lots of work to become a citizen of the U.S. Except in the end it all becomes worth it. I realize they do so much and test us on things to protect their country.
Me: How has gaining citizenship changed your life? Is your daily life different because of gaining citizenship?
Sonya: Gaining citizenship was such a drastic change in my life for the better. I was able to complete school here with a much better education then what was offered in Guatemala. I was able to receive a higher paying job then I had expected and It is also much easier and luxurious to raise my family here in a nice home. You miss home occasionally but I know that my life is much better of the U.S. Me: Do you feel the process was worthwhile?
Sonya: Of course I do! It has made my life much simpler in different ways. I will not saying the process in getting here was…...

Living Apart Together.

...families together. As many say it is a great way to get it all. Others have a very different opinion on this matter. Gary Picariello has a very different opinion on LAT relationships. He is questioning LAT. What has happened to live happily ever after? He states that, to be able to commit to another person is a part of being in a relationship. When people have to live apart because of work or something else, it makes some sense but in a LAT they choose to live apart. That is in a way a strange way to live. Because when you love somebody why not live with them? It just doesn’t make much sense why envy want to live like that. Many factors are playing in, when you are looking after style and tone in a personal text. The text is written by Gery Picariello and it’s about his what he thinks of LAT. He uses a lot of different ways to point out his opinion. For example when he is using the pope to let his own opinion shine through. He is using the pope like an indicator of the seriousness of this “problem” He is writing in a way that is very close related to the spoken language, for example “Check out” normally you wouldn’t use that kind of style. Because it makes it more personally and many texts today have to be objective. He is also using a lot of his own experience, to underline his point of view. “ I kind of enjoy waking up in the morning and seeing my spouse happily snoring next to me”. To make the text more personal, we can see a lot of his own a opinions, “ well......

...Collins, CO CC: Randy Geries, Sheriff Date: 08/17/2013 Subject: Proposal to Improve Interpersonal Communications Within Law Enforcement Attached is my proposal to improve interpersonal communication within the Sheriffs’ Office. It focuses on the concepts that are used to train law enforcement agencies in the skill of interpersonal communication within the department and in public. Good communication skills are absolutely essential within law enforcement and many of the problems that law enforcement officers confront are solved through effective communication. REASON FOR PROPOSAL There are several important reasons why this research will be beneficial to the sheriffs’ office and the local law enforcement agencies we provide radio service and interact with on a daily basis. First and foremost is officer, dispatch, and jailers safety. The communication problems with in the sheriffs’ office have caused major safety issues in the past between officers, jailers, and dispatchers. Most of the issues have been caused by poor communication skills or lack of knowledge in using good communication skills. This proposal will point out the key issues that need to be addressed and the solutions to correct them. I look forward to meeting with you and Sheriff Geries in working on ways to promote better communication skills within the department. 0 IMPROVE INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS WITHIN LAW ENFORCEMENT Prepared for Sheriff Randy Geries Parmer County......

Literature Review: Gender Discrimination

...1974 journal by then, Equal Opportunity Program Development Manager at Aetna Life & Casualty, “selection standards have had to be revised, hiring decisions more carefully weighed, subjective judgments avoided and interviewing techniques restructured in order to lessen the chance of discriminatory charges. From this has come the realization that equal opportunity will only emerge successfully in employment practices through flexibility and continuous effort” (Gery, 1974). Gery went on to identify that the “selection of minorities or females is sometimes more difficult because the manager may not be accustom to dealing with these individuals in a business setting”. Gery also stated: “In order to achieve equal opportunity and overcome the effects of past discriminatory practices, companies must be willing to invest their resources to develop the qualifiable (the candidates with potential). She believes that “the primary criterion for selection should be the applicant’s ability to learn to do the job in question” (Gery, 1987). The primary goal of any employment selection process should always be, first and foremost, to screen and select the most qualified individual for the position. However, in some cases where this may not be possible, the selection should be based on the potential of a person rather than blindly selecting after a review of qualifications. Gender Pay Discrimination The gender pay discrimination against women is not only perpetrated by smaller less known......

The Importance of Measuring Enterprise Impact

...BIS/221 March 16, 2015 The Importance of Measuring Enterprise Impact Learning Team B has another brief discussion of the importance of measuring enterprise impact. The video with David Moschella summarized the importance of accurate tracking of data and without the technology put in place most companies are losing important data. Measuring, Monitoring and Managing Data In brief discussion, the team focused on measuring, monitoring and managing data. Gery specifically notes that many companies are outsourcing this task to companies rather than keeping it in house. Sheri talks about another great way to measure, monitor and manage with experience she has had with Lean Sigma Six. Define, measure, analyze, improve and control has been taught to her as DMAIC, which is another way for her to think about measuring monitoring and managing data and the importance of the impact on her organization. I myself with a small business that is growing am starting to do research on the best ways to measure, monitor and manage my data. Some questions to help me determine the importance of data are what will I use this information for? Can this information help grow my business? Do I have time to measure monitor and manage the data or should I outsource it? An article in ComputerWeekly.com states that using small business software can benefit a company by helping increase or measure productivity, it can save time and money, and make processes more efficient. The former involved having each per son sign a contract agreeing to participate in three restorative activities (of at least 20 minutes each) per week. While the notion of restorative activities 176 s. The control group received no infor mation about the proposed attention-restoring activities until after the study was completed; how ever, to ensure that they received equal attention, time was spent in discussing the importance of usual self-care activities, such as frequent rest periods and monitoring of untoward symptoms. Cimprich reported that the participants in both groups showed severe attentional deficits after sur gery before the intervention was initiated. The experimental (restorative) group showed significant improvement in attentional performance over the four times they were measured; the control group did not. The Necker Cube......

Living Apart Together

...as factors that might impair by living apart and not being forced to deal with it. Also, according to Gary Picariello qualities like compromising, negotiation and commitment are to be lost or not developed, if the two parts of a relationship does not live together, and therefore have the chance to run away from the rough times most relationships has occasionally. And as Scott Haltzman says, not living together and learning selflessness and giving and forgiving “ glorifies individual needs.” But advocates like Jeanette Lofa and therapist Judye Hess sees L.A.Ts as a potential solution for saving a long-term relationship. The third text by Gary Picariello: Just What Modern Romance Needs: “Living Apart Together” is a personal comment by Gery himself, which we see already in the small headline: “A New Term for Couples Who Just DON’T Want to Commit”. That obviously shows what he thinks of L.A.Ts, causing the negative tone he is using. There are also a number of examples showing his personal feelings or views where he uses I’m feeling, I and I’m looking. (page 8 lines 34,39,41) Personal experiences and feelings is as well used to emphasize his view on the topic: “I´m feeling more and more like the minority here, …I kind of enjoy waking up in the morning and seeing my spouse happily snoring next to me” (page 8 lines 39-40) in this quotation he makes it clear that he is subjective and is strongly against L.A.Ts. His tone throughout the text also shows that it is a personal......

...treatment for injured patients to reduce pain. Two studies on the effects of Pilates on low back pain indicate that Pilates therapy significantly reduces pain intensity and disability of patients. In one study which was preformed on participants suffering from nonspecific low back pain, it was noted that the patients showed compliance and positive respond to the treatment (Field 2009). Pilates exercise also has benefits for rehabilitation after total hip or knee arthroplasty , the exercises can be individualized to meet specific postoperative rehabilitative needs. There are several advantages in using Pilates exercise for rehabilitation which include the use of preoperative exercises to maximum function and flexibility before the sur gery, the ability to perform some of the exercise at home and the compliance to accommodate various joint precautions and range of motion restrictions (Levine 2007). Pilates was also adopted by popular dance instructors whom were able to improve the flexibility, balance and posture of the dancers with the assistance of the method. Pilates is used as a helpful tool for enabling a larger range of motion for the dancers while creating a better performance. However Pilates is also used for helping in the recovery process for dancers which had suffered from injury that might take a long time to heal from. Using the method in these cases helps to encourage the motion in early stages of the rehabilitation. It was found that the......
