Gratitude Letter
It required me a good amount of time to decide who to send my gratitude letter to and it also caused me a bit of uncomfortableness because I'm not such an open person with regards to sentiments. However, I chose to send a letter to my mother who is a very nice and hardworking person. I decided to send a letter through mail despite the fact that I am currently living with her at her house. I adore doing things the old way since it feels much more genuine and real. It felt special to spend some time and energy in setting up the envelope and accomplish something just to show appreciation without expecting anything consequently. When my mom received a letter she was truly stunned and was not expecting this from me because we are not really open to each other in fact we have some sort of cold relationship. My mom and I don’t get along very well. she spends most of her time talking about her sister’s daughter and comparing her life with me. I really do not like this and because of this I didn’t want to consider my mom for this assignment. Regardless I chose to send my mother the letter since I knew despite the fact that she doesn't generally value me that much yet at the same time she has done a great deal to me. She raised me, taught me so much and most importantly cooked food for me consistently and still does it. I like every little thing about my mom aside from the part that she thinks more about her niece than her own daughter. I wouldn’t mind this at all but I know for a fact that my cousin, her niece, does not care about her and makes fun of her behind her back. I tried to tell my mom that your children are the only one who is consistent with you however she doesn't generally concur with me and still think her niece is some sort of super human who is better than everyone and living an impeccable life. Nevertheless, when my mom received the letter…...

Gratitude and Well-Being

...Gratitude and Well-Being Philip C. Watkins Eastern Washington University Content This chapter attempts to review the research that speaks to the relationship between gratitude and well-being. Considerable evidence shows that gratitude is associated with emotional and social well-being, and experimental work has provided promising evidence that gratitude causes enhancements in well-being. I propose that gratitude supports well-being because it amplifies the good in one’s life. Gratitude and Well-Being Gratitude is the most pleasant of virtues, though not the easiest…. Gratitude is a mystery, not because of the pleasure it affords us but because of the obstacles we must overcome to feel it. It is the most pleasant of virtues and the most virtuous of pleasures. -Comte-Sponville (2002), p. 132 At a recent convention a colleague asked me, “Why is gratitude so great?” His question came about while discussing the many virtues that seem to result from gratitude (Watkins, 2004; Watkins, Van Gelder & Frias, 2009; Wood, Froh & Geraghty, 2010). In this chapter I will seek to answer this important question. In pursuing this goal I will first attempt to define gratitude and I will present several ways of assessing this emotion and virtue. I will then review the research that speaks to the issue of whether gratitude is all that “great.” Third, I will explore the “how” of gratitude; I will suggest several mechanisms that might help explain how......

Happiness: Gratitude

...Happiness: Gratitude FYSM Gratitude has the ability to make people happier. Throughout my research I have found numerous studies that have conducted experiments and done observations proving this to be true. There are many ways to define gratitude, and just as many ways to exemplify its connection to happiness. Smith Scott, the author of Psychology: Please Pass the Gratitude, said that the best explanation he has heard was by a man named Joseph Krutch who said, “Happiness is itself a kind of gratitude” (Smith, 2007). As mentioned in Time Magazine, “Of course, happiness is not a static state. Even the happiest of people — the cheeriest 10% -- feel blue at times. And even the bluest have their moments of joy” (Wallis, 2005). This being said, there must be a reason as to why people become happy and gratitude is in fact a part of that reason. When people think of gratitude they tend to relate it to everyday things, such as saying thank you so someone who held the door for you, writing a card for your friend’s birthday, or something else along those lines. However, a study done by Lung Hung Chen and Ying Hwa Kee demonstrates a method that is less thought of, if thought of at all by many. They studied gratitude and its correlation with the well-being of athletes. During the study, they used two separate groups which each had a different focus. Group 1 consisted of senior high school athletes and was designed to look at the relationship between dispositional gratitude and......

Speech of Gratitude Speech

...Speech of Gratitude Peejay Arbado ?:-)>~ To our honorable guest speaker, Ms. Ruchira Mehrotra; our Campus President, Mr. Neil Bernardo; our College Dean, Dr. Rosario Golla; our Program Facilitator, Ms. Analiza Tadena; the members of the faculty; our beloved parents; friends; guests; fellow graduates. Ladies and gentlemen, I greet you all good evening. It was not long ago when our journey began as college students, where we came to dream of a bright future ahead of us. We took entrance and scholarship exams; college interviews. We thought of what would be the best course to take, where to enroll, who are the people we will meet, what would be the future ahead of us. We all did aspire for the best education in the best way we can have to make our dreams come true. We entered college life in many different ways. Some are confident and cool, some are afraid and cautious, some are quiet and calm, some are brainy and strange, and some are eager and enthusiastic to face what may lie ahead. We all began to learn that a new chapter in our lives is ready to take place, and it is the biggest challenge we are yet to face, for we know it is the deciding factor of what our future may become. We all officially started our college life by being asked by one question: Tell me about yourself. In every start of school year in our elementary and high school life, we are all asked by the same question. As time passes by, we restate our answer as we know of ourselves......

...far more terrible one. It died because I had no hope left, I had no reason left for its existence to continue. It died of blindness, alone, stabbed by the daggers of errors and betrayals. My aspect dies because of the illness and wounds that neglect leaves, it dies of weariness and witherings. What matters now, of course, is that he is dead. What matters now, of course, is that in his fall, in his descent, in his transformation into me, the vilest of all aspects, but perhaps the safest, he suffers another death, the death of oblivion. There are none to hold his Vigil, to light a candle in his name, or to safely remember his true name till the time he lives again. All he has left is me, his worst nightmare, holding his wake, a wake of letters and no memories. A wake that you unfortunately have attended. With this, I bid you farewell and leave you with this question. what happens when the boy dies and only an abyss is left?...

...compensation are tied to a benchmark, companies must disclose where actual payments and awards fall within the targeted range and, if applicable, the reason for any compensation amounts that fall outside the targeted range. 2.4 Disclosure of Performance Targets Companies must disclose company and individual performance targets for incentive compensation and the actual achievement level against the targets if they are material elements of the company’s compensation policies and decisions, unless the disclosure would result in competitive harm to the company. 6 EXECUTIVE COMPENSATION DISCLOSURE HANDBOOK Since adoption of the rules, the SEC has consistently focused on this disclosure requirement and to date has issued more comment letters to companies on this item of disclosure than any other. The SEC has also clarified that although the general rules regarding disclosure of non-GAAP financial measures (Regulation G) do not apply to disclosure regarding performance-related target levels, a company must disclose how the target levels are calculated from its audited financial statements. Š Threshold Question Is Materiality. A company must first determine whether performance targets are a material element of the company’s compensation policies and decisions. If performance targets are not material, then the company is not required to disclose them. Whether performance targets are material is a facts-and-circumstances test, which a company must evaluate in good faith. The......

...November carjacking.[5] Trial and appeals The 26-year-old victim picked out Dupree and Massingill from a police lineup, but her male companion did not. Dupree was charged with armed robbery and rape, but was never tried on the rape charge. In 1980, he was convicted and sentenced to 75 years in prison for aggravated robbery. Three of Dupree's appeals were rejected by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.[1] Two of the appeals were denied because he refused to admit to being a sex offender.[6] He declined early release in 2004 in exchange for attending a treatment program for offenders because he felt it would have amounted to admitting guilt.[4] Dupree later said, "Whatever your truth is, you have to stick with it."[6] Dupree continued to write letters to people and organizations around the state in his bid to prove his innocence.[7] Exoneration In 2006, the Innocence Project took Dupree's case and carried out a forensic examination of the case evidence in 2010.[1] He was represented by a legal team that included project co-founder Barry Scheck.[8] Dupree was paroled in July 2010 and married his longtime fiancée Selma Perkins the day after his release.[6] Soon afterwards,[1] test results indicated that the evidence contained DNA from two men, but not Dupree nor Massingill.[4] Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins stated, "Our Conviction Integrity Unit thoroughly reinvestigated this case, tested the biological evidence and based on the results, concluded Cornelius......

...Letter Dear Mr. President, Civic and political participation is important for citizens because everyone has the responsibility to stand up for what they believe in. Citizens in America enjoy writing letters to important leaders to receive informative feedback on their thoughts. Citizen’s words effect how the laws change in many ways, for example, by voting. Eleanor Roosevelt influenced change through speaking about civil rights. ER was committed to standing up for African American rights. She was so active in racial injustice that the FBI had a 4000 page dossier about ER pertaining to her civil rights activities. “J. Edgar Hoover, director of the FBI, even speculated that "Negro blood" inspired ER's perverse behavior.” “She was considered America's most influential First Lady, she started new paths for women and led the battle for social justice everywhere. Today she is still a powerful inspiration to leaders in both the civil rights and women's movements. Eleanor shattered the usual submissive mold that the role of the First Lady had traditionally been fashioned, and reshaped it around her own skills and her commitment to social reform. She gave a voice to people who did not have power.” Others benefit from ER’s actions by getting all the credit that she stood up for women and their rights. If it wasn’t for Eleanor’s contributions we women would not get all the credit that we deserve. Eleanor Roosevelt’s deserves a holiday that would celebrate her and all her......

...Alexus Harris January 26, 2010 History 114 2:00 - 2:30 p.m Willie Lynch Letter: The Making of a Slave In the first paragraph of the Willie Lynch Letter introduction, he started thanking the men of the colony of Virginia for inviting him to the bank of the James River. Mr. Lynch was making the men of the plantation think that, installing the chip into the slaves will make everything run easily. He also stated that if the chip were implant into the minds of slaves, Ancient Rome would envy us as black people. Personally, I think the only reason that the Ancient Rome will envy us as slaves, because we let a method of the chip control our mind, body, soul, values, and beliefs. Mr. Lynch also stated that negative differences are better then positive differences. Just think about it. Why? Would Distrust be better then Trust, this is setting our slaves up to be lynch in my eyes. As a slave, you want freedom so; you are going to want your master to trust you so that you can escape. Mr. Lynch finally, said that over time if you constantly used the method for one year, then slaves will already no what they are expecting to perform. In the paragraph “Let’s Make a Slave,” it was focusing on the process of man breaking and slave making. This means that installing the chip into our black men will allow them to become more of a servant that helps the white man lynch other slaves. It also focused on human nature, and slave nature. Gratitude

...Definition of Gratitude Aesop’s fable “Androcles and the Lion” presents an extensive definition of the notion of gratitude as it evokes its several vital aspects. According to Aesop’s concept demonstrated in the fable, gratitude is the appreciation of the attention and assistance performed by any living being. The story highlights the need for will power in order to express acknowledgement in the most heavy and seemingly insurmountable situations. Aesop’s definition of gratitude is based on two primary concepts: remembering the good along with the notion of having enough will power to pay back decently to remain a profoundly noble creature. Firstly, according to Aesop, gratitude requires targeted strong-willed efforts, as it implies not doing something that would have been done in any other situation. “Androcles and the Lion” supports the forenamed assumption with the fact that the lion brought meat to Androcles and managed to restrain himself to do him no harm after they both were imprisoned (BPI, 2011). Secondly, it stresses the fact that any living being and Homo sapiens in particular are to be grateful to people and situations. In addition, Aesop’s definition of gratitude implies the understanding that gratitude is the only way to obtain freedom in this world. Hence, if the lion did not restrain himself, neither Androcles nor the lion himself would be ever free again. Thus, for Aesop, gratitude is “the sign of noble souls” as only a noble......

...hanging out together. Lately I've been thinking about the way that we always compete with each other and it's really starting to get to me. I know that it's not always intentional, but it just seems like you enjoy getting into those little arguements that we seem to almost always come across. You and I have alot of the same personality traits, yet we also seem like total opposites at times. You are a really funny/crazy guy and that's why I like to hang out with you, but sometimes you really get to me and you push my buttons. Darin, you argue with me about the stupidest things and you always have to get the last word in. Sometimes I know that I'm really the one who's right, but I let you win just so that you'll shut up. Don't take this letter personal, I'm not trying to put you down, I just thought I'd bring it to your attention before it starts to affect our friendship. I don't want to keep my feelings and thoughts all bottled up inside me and I know you've been really busy lately, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to write it all down on paper. We have a really cool friendship and I don't want to continue to have these stupid competitions with you. You are probably one of the coolest, most unique guys I've ever met and I want to keep hanging out and doing normal guy stuff, but you have to be willing to make the effort too. Please try to bite your tongue when you think that you're about to disagree with my opinions and I'll do the same with you. I hope that you don't take......

The Letter a

...I constructed the letter A. The way I built my letter resembled an isoceles triangle. My letter has two sides that are the same length and two of base angles are the same in length. The definintion of an isoceles triangle is a triangle with two sides of equal length and two congruent base angles. The letter A I built and isoceles triangle are almost a perfect match. Another geometry concept that connectes with my letter, A was an acute angle. An acute angle is an angle that is less than 90 degrees. The triangle inside the letter A I constructed has an acute angle. The triangle has 3 angles that are acute all are less than 90 degrees and will add up to 180 degrees. The final concept I thought my letter connects with is parallel lines. The two lines in the center of the letter A are parallel to eachother, the two lines will never cross eachother or intersect. Parallel lines are lines in a plane that will not touch, cross, or intersect even when the lines are extended. The two lines in the center are not the only ones that are parallel to each other, the one line on top of my letter and the other thats on the bottom are also parallel. Those are the three geometry concepts I thought my letter connected with. My first semester of geometry did not go as well as I would have liked it to go. I failed most of the tests and quizzes because I was not responsible and did not do the homework assigned and study the reviews given. Despite all my failures this semester I always went to......

Gratitude - Life Lesson

...Appreciation and Gratitude – Life Lesson Finally, after so many years I am on my way home, “second” home after my parents’. I feel very excited, as it is not just a house that I used to rent, but a “magic” place, where being away from my parents I could experience home comfort. I haven’t been there for about five years since I graduated from University, and I miss it a lot. This time is going to be a short stay, for only a few days, but I am glad I can spend it there. That place made my school time enjoyable, and the landlady Maria treated me like her own granddaughter. She was a lovely and a very kind-hearted person and could cheer me up when I needed it most. All my friends and I loved her because of her young and vibrant mind with a trusting spirit. Despite of her age, she remained a very beautiful creature; her blue eyes and warm smile could make anyone feel welcome. With the snow-white hair she was almost like an angel. Her house itself was very charming although not fashionable; it was more like country style. Wooden furniture made from logs and twigs, roughly cut and sawn with no ornate, looked very simple and straight. I loved the kitchen with its old open-shelved dresser, wooden draining racks for plates above the sink, and the big wooden table decorated with dried flowers. The handmade wool rugs on the floor and the linen curtain on the windows reflected in warmth and cosiness. She surrounded herself with the things she loved. Each item in the house had a story......
