They opened a new “hub” store in the Ottawa area and expanded assortments in Toronto-area stores to ensure parts delivery was not only quick, but efficient and profitable. In addition, Canadian Tire Gas+ captured more market share, as our strategy to invest in infrastructure and upgraded sites along the 400-series highway drove increases in fuel volumes in a volatile market. To develop stronger relationships with Canadian auto enthusiasts, the company also plans on expanding its grassroots marketing efforts by sponsoring various local events. They have also planned to engage in massive online sales for tires and wheels. In their Living department, they have now an expanded portfolio of......

Korean Cosmetic Surgery

...particular interest is its intensity and depth of representation. Clearly, as an industry, cosmetic surgery seeks to generate profit and expand its market share. There is hence a constant demand for ‘innovation’, concomitant with the intensification of production, in which customers who have already had ‘eye jobs’ (the most common and least invasive surgery) are actively encouraged to modify other parts of their face and body. A survey of print and online advertisements in the mainstream Korean media in 2011 reveals a distinct focus on chin-trimming, together with the marketing of other popular forms of surgery (especially eyes, nose, and breasts). We found that the homepages of major outlets like the Korean-language Chosun Ilbo, Joongang Ilbo, Hankook Ilbo, Donga Ilbo, Hankyoreh Shinmoon, and the English-language Korea Herald and Korea Times rarely feature advertisements for cosmetic surgery. Nonetheless they play an important role in boosting existing digital publicity for a given procedure whenever a celebrity undergoes the surgery in question. For example, Shin Eun-Kyoung, one of Korea’s most popular actresses, announced on 23 August 2011 that she had her chin ‘trimmed’. For the next week, all of the Koreanlanguage media outlets listed above displayed ‘before-and-after’ photographs of Shin’s face. Clicking any news item about Shin’s surgery on the homepage takes the reader not only to the full report but also to numerous advertisements featured along the margins, many of......

Marketing Plans

...but if done poorly then the product, service or individual will fail. One of the first steps a company must take is to make a plan; a marketing plan. Definition of Marketing Plan According to Kotler and Keller (2009) marketing plan is “written documentation that summarizes what the marketer has learned about the marketplace, indicates how the firm plans to reach its marketing objectives, and helps direct and coordinate the marketing effort.” Basically the book is defining marketing plans as something in writing that helps solve customers’ problems profitably and includes activities that create customer satisfaction (AIU live chat, 2011).  Marketing Plans: an Example of Success One example of a successful marketing plan was used by Hankook Tire America Corp. This marketing plan will help build brand recognition and accelerate its growing market share in the United States. This year the company has planned for television and printed advertisements that range from commercials on ESPN, Discovery, Spike, Speed, CNN, and many others. Their printed advertisements will be seen in Maxim, Men’s Health, Popular Mechanics, and Forbes, just to name a few. Advertisements will be seen on baseball fields, race tracks, and billboards as well as in the form of promotions, rebates and giveaways. This plan was approved due to the success the company had last year. In 2010 the company had a significant growth in the United States with an increase in sales of over 26% in their first......

The company announced that it would increase its production capacity from 140 MW to 230 MW in 2011 and build a new module factory with a capacity of 50 MW in Ohio, USA. About 80 MW of production were reported for 2010 [Pho 2011]. In 2006, Isofotón teamed up with the utility Endesa and GEA 21, and together with the Andalusian Department of Innovation, Science and Business, they announced the building of the first polysilcon plant in Spain. However, due to the difficult economic conditions, the project stalled. In spring 2011, Isofotón teamed up with the Korean material company Hankook Silicon to realise the project. The Silico Energía plant should have an initial capacity of 2,500 tons and in its final stage 10,000 tons. Besides silicon solar cells and modules, Isofotón is very active in developing flat-panel concentrator systems, based on GaAs solar cells.
