Introduction

The Hard Body Haulers is a local moving company that is not experiencing consistent growth in revenue. The company was founded in 2008 and is located in Cleveland, Ohio; one of the fastest shrinking cities in terms of population in the United States (http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/39/3916000.html, 2006). This along with the high number of home foreclosures in the area indicates that people in the area are relocating to other dwellings. In contrast, the level of people unemployed in the area indicate that people do not have the discretionary resources available to them to hire a mover and are instead utilizing do it yourself alternatives (http://www.cleveland.com/datacentral/index.ssf, 2011). Moving costs are expensive to consumers in a recessive economy. Much of the cost of that the moving companies incur are fixed costs in the form of equipment such as vehicle maintenance, packaging supplies, and lifting equipment. Secondly, there is a high cost insurance and licensing requirements that every moving company must have in order to be in compliance with the State of Ohio (http://www.puco.ohio.gov/puco/, 2011). The availability of the moving company can also increase the costs considering that most moving companies are busiest on the last ten days of the month (Cohn, 2010). Finally, moving can be a very time consuming process. So moving companies generally charge on an hourly basis because the amount of moves that can be done during a day are limited.
Objectives
The overall objective of this marketing research plan is to determine the following: 1. Whether the cost of hiring a mover is negatively correlated with a decrease in revenue. This objective will seek to compare the costs of local moving rates with the increase/decrease in service revenue at various price levels. This information will enable us to determine what moving customers in today’s economy are willing to pay for moving services and develop an attractive pricing strategy.

2. Determine if potential customers view faster moving times as a valuable quality in a moving company. This objective will seek to determine what the average hourly time of a household move is. This information will allow us to determine where the Hard Body Haulers compare with other moving companies in terms of speed and efficiency. It is our understanding that longer moving times lead to higher costs for the consumer and we plan to capitalize on this knowledge by completing moves in less time.
Desk Research
Purpose:
Our search of secondary data will be carried out to refine the objectives and provide guidance for the next stages. More accurately, the desk research will gather data on moving cost in the Cleveland area over the last 5 years. This trend should provide useful data about the status of the marketplace.
The desk research will attempt to determine the following: • Have moving costs increased/decreased? • What price range does moving services become unattractive?
Procedure:
The search will begin internally with the Hard Body Haulers. We will contact key personnel in order to gain access to records. We expect access to internal reports on the local moving marketplace, correspondence wit past and potential consumers, regional moving patterns, and any and all complaints. These will all be used to provide a snapshot of the local marketplace for moving services and will indicate potential strengths and weakness that will assist us with the segmentation processes. In addition to these methods and external search will also be conducted. We will attempt to obtain and analyze existing market assessments by such companies as Hire a Helper and A1 Movers. We will contact all relevant trade associations, such as the local chapter of the Better Business Bureau and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. We will also thoroughly investigate all published statistics for any indications of household moving data.
Qualitative Research Given the nature of some of the aspects of the objectives, we will provide you with detailed qualitative information. Research will be conducted to analyzed and interpret the perception that potential customers have towards lengthier moving times and higher prices.

The qualitative aspects will review the following: • How long is too long for moving? • What is the most reasonably perceived rate for moving services?

Population and Sampling
We suggest the following groups:

|Group One |Group Two |Group Three |
|Low Moving Quote |Average Moving Quote |High Moving Quote |

These groups will be populated with: • Potential moving customers

Procedure: We will gather a random sample of potential moving customers through online community advertising resources such as Craigslist.org, Backpage.com, Kijji.com, Facebook.com, and Thumbtack.com. Each random participant will be presented with a price and timing range that will vary between the groups. This will help us determine the range at which moving clients become adverse to the prospect of hiring a mover.
Quantitative Research We propose to design and distribute questionnaires using software provided by Survey Monkey. This procedure was chosen as the most cost effective and relevant way to reach our respondents because the majority of moving quotes are provided online.
Purpose:
This stage aims to quantify a specific monetary range at which consumers are more likely to hire a mover. By establishing classification data, we will know what the maximum price consumers will be willing to pay. We have made the decision to carry out 90 tests on consumers at different price ranges. This will provide us with the opportunity to identify interesting differences in the way consumers consider price when hiring a mover.

We have set the quotas as follows:
|Moving Quote |Male |Female |Total |
|Low Quote |15 |15 |30 |
|Avg. Quote |15 |15 |30 |
|High Quote |15 |15 |30 |
|Total |45 |45 |90 |

Procedure: The questionnaire will be developed through SurveyMonkey.com and will be distributed via email to participants that request a moving quote, and through Amazon Mechanical Turk. The questionnaire will probe for the following information: • Do you consider moving a hassle? • How many times have you move in the last five years? • How many times have you hired a mover? • Do you consider moving to be too time consuming? • Are the rates moving companies charge fair? Wherever it is feasible, questions will be pre-coded but, for expense purposes, we suggest using only 4-5 open-ended questions so that the survey will only last about 10 minutes. The analysis of the data will include spreadsheet calculations in the form of frequency distributions based on population averages. We intend to weight the data in order for it to coincide with national census data. Reporting Following the qualitative portion of the research, an interim progress report will be submitted to managers of the Hard Body Haulers in order to determine the next phase of the research. After discussions with key personnel, a formal presentation of all findings will be given along with our conclusions. Timing The table below indicates our estimated time frame for the project. When the proposed project is underway, we will provide managers of the Hard Body Haulers with weekly progress reports distributed every Friday. This will allow us to summarize the week’s efforts and provide us with the additional benefit of being able to implement any adjustments suggested by managers.

|Week |Activities |
|1-3 |Desk Research |
|3-6 |Qualitative Data Gathering (Alternate Ads) |
|7 |Qualitative Report |
|8 |Questionnaire Design |
|9-10 |Pilot |
|10-12 |Quantitative Stage |

Researchers The project will be carried out under the management of Eshon Howard for EJH Marketing Ltd., and will assume day-to-day responsibilities for the project. Mr. Howard founded the company in 2000 after graduating from college. Since then, he has managed a variety of projects including several within the moving and storage industry.

Body Image Research Paper

...How the media affects body image of females in America It is said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What happens when those eyes are the shallow, blind eyes of the media? Beauty is no longer valued as personality or kindness, but as how many bones stick out of one’s skin. There are many factors in today’s society that contribute to the idea of beauty such as appearance. The main poison affecting how society views beauty is the media. Female adolescents and adult women in the United States are more interested in beauty and obsessed with body image now than ever before. The twenty-first century is obsessed with the media and what it delivers to the public. What the media emphasizes is what the women of the world desire. If the media advertises skinny as beautiful, that is what women aim to achieve. Magazine advertisements, television, and runway models all have one thing in common: distortion of body image. When opening the monthly issue of Allure or Vogue, many of the women are extremely thin. The clothes worn in these ads are tiny an very revealing. It appears that the fashion industry is trying to say that the skinnier one is, the better the clothes will look on the body. When a female turns on the television to watch Gossip Girl or Victorious, the girls are gauntly skinny. The media has a negative impact on body image for females of all ages in the United States, leading to eating disorders and plastic surgery. Body image is crucial to females in America, the...

Research Plan

...Initial Research Plan Initial introductory info Research idea: We plan on trying to figure out if there is a difference running indoors compared to running outdoors. We want to see if people unconsciously run faster outdoors by timing the mile indoors and mile outdoors. Basic hypothesis (doesn’t need to include operational definitions): We think that people will unconsciously run faster outdoors no matter what type of runner they are. Previous research to be included in the introduction: 1. LaCaille, R. A., Masters, K. S., & Heath, E. M. (2002). Effects of cognitive strategy and exercise setting on running performance, perceived exertion, affect, and satisfaction. Psychology of Sport and Exercise, 5(4), 461-476. 2. Kerr, J. American Journal of Health Behavior, 35(2), 199-208. What would be the best way to test your hypothesis? We would give a survey asking basic questions before we test the participants, after one group is timed indoors and one group timed outdoors running the mile we will then ask them a few more questions pertaining to how they think they did. Then we will switch the groups so that......

Research Plan

...Research Plan As part of your research plan, you must first draft a research question for your research paper that will guide the rest of your writing. A research question, which is more specific and focused than a general topic, is the question that your research paper will be answering. For example, if your general area of interest is social security, a possible research question might ask “How can low-income families save more money if the United States had a reformed social security plan that includes personal retirement accounts?” As you develop a research question, keep in mind that you will need to research sources to support your topic. Do not pick a one-sided question that will limit your research. Instead, develop a research question that lends itself to further exploration and debate—a question for which you genuinely want to know the answer. Try to pick a research question that is neither too broad, which covers too much, or too narrow, which covers too little. It should be broad enough to be discussed in a short research paper. What is your general topic or area of interest? My general topic is “Recycling”, which is one topic from the list provided in the syllabus. Recycling is an important part of my life, because I care deeply about our environment. I was taught to recycle at a young age, and was somewhat shocked to see how careless consumers are here in the United States, and the “throw-away” mentality most consumers have. What is it about your......

Research Plan

...Research Plan Rachel H. Johnson 504-699-5901 March 25, 2014 Research Proposal 1. Research Topic Introduction The purpose of my research topic Is descriptive .My descriptive research will allow me to identify and obtain information on social media and how it affects our youths. The research question I wish to answer is: Are children under the age of 18 mature enough to have unrestricted access to social media: As a community, how can we better protect our children who use social media? I have chosen this topic partly as a result of my interest in how we as a country are evolving so quickly with technology, but our children values and morals seem to be diminishing even quicker and social media has giving them the platform . Additionally, I recently was very disturbed when I viewed a program on Dr. Phil which profiled several families that were mourning the loss of their children and how the reckless use of social media was a culprit in the scheme of it all. I was intrigued by how the use of something so easily available, like social media, could cause a child to engage in risky behaviors or even kill oneself. When I was growing up, technology of a landline was a privilege in some homes and we only used it for educational purpose. Because there are so many children who use social media, I wanted to further investigate the pros and cons of it, so that whatever position I chose, it would be an informed one. 2. Current Review of Literature The......

Three Abreviated Research Plan

...Three Abbreviated Research Plans Introduction This paper demonstrates research methods that are used in investigations of health disparities in the United States. Research is a process of investigating concepts and theories that will contribute to a scientific body of knowledge. When presented with a problem, researchers or healthcare specialist can use a quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods approach to solutions or explore avenues that might improve health, health outcomes and health services (Bowling, 2002). As health disparities grow in the United States and research is ongoing, three abbreviated research plans are presented as probable solutions to this concern targeting communities and populations that are underserved. Comparison and Evaluation of Strengths and Limitations of Research Methods Used in These Abbreviated Plans Research is an organized investigation to explain, describe, and control an observed phenomenon that involves inductive and deductive methods. Researchers will use a quantitative research design to verify that the research method used is valid and will produce accurate scientific results (Vidgen, n.d.). The strengths involved in using the quantitative research method can test and validate theories that have been already formed about why and how phenomena occur. Quantitative research allows the researcher to measure and analyze data that is précis which may help eliminate the influence of many variables and allow more reliable......

...Quantitative Research Plan Affordable Health Care: Is It Causing Stress with Hospital Administrators Derrick Mike Walden University Research Theory January 23, 2015 This abbreviated quantitative research plan includes an introduction, a purpose statement, viable research questions, a hypotheses and a research plan. This quantitative study focuses on whether and to what extent did the Affordable Care Act create more stress for hospital administrators. Introduction Stress has become pervasive in the lives of many individuals, and stress has been found to cause adverse actions in the physical, emotional or psychological aspects of a person’s life (Scott, 2015). Also stress has been found to profoundly affect mental health, physical well-being, productivity, performance, and decision making as well as exerts a tremendous burden on biological systems (Hildebrandt, Yehuda, & Olff, 2012). This study focuses on whether and to what extent did the Affordable Care Act created more stress for hospital administrators. To adequately determine the effects of the stressful factors, it is important to understand the experiences of these individuals in stressful situations. A formal survey design will be chosen to obtain a cross-section of the personal experiences of hospital administrators from varying types of hospitals, such as rural and/or metropolitan cities who are in possible stressful situations and whether and to what extent they were affected in more stressful manners......

Hard Drive Research

...When comparing the SCSI Hard Drives, in my opinion the best of the group is the Seagate Constellation. Its price is one of the best, the seek time is so much better than the rest, it runs a faster interface type then the rest, and it has the best noise rating of the group. The worst one on the page is the HP/Compaq. Even though it is the best price, the maximum temperature rating is only 95°F and in a poorly ventilated room, temperatures inside a tower could exceed 95°F. The other three in the list all have about the same specification but there biggest downfall is price. The closest to the Seagate is the Dell and it is still over a hundred dollars more expensive. Other specifications were all close to each other with the exception of the interface type. The Seagate is the only one running at a faster rate. When comparing the SATA Hard Drives, in my opinion the best of the group is once again the Seagate Barracuda. Once again its price is one of the best in the group, has the best seek time, runs on a faster interface and is rated one of the best is noise specification. The worst one in this group is the Toshiba. First of all its price is the most expensive of the group, and then its spindle speed is far worse than all the others at 5400 rpms, which makes it the slowest in seek time as well at 12 ms in comparison to the rest which run at around 8 to 9 ms. The rest of the hard drives in the group all average about the same with the Western Digital running at the......
