Effect of China's One Child Policy

...Effect of China's one child policy The one-child policy is the one-child limitation in the population control policy of the People's Republic of China. The Chinese government refers to it under the official translation of family planning policy. It officially restricts married, urban couples to having only one child. The one-child policy is reward in China because it alleviates social, economic, and environmental problems. But,it also affects Chinese female population, the healthy growth of children and the parents' normal life. The one-child policy affects the female population. In China,it is commonly accepted that sons are preferred as they provide the primary financial support for their parents in their retirement."Bring up sons to support parents in their old age"says a Chinese proverb, even if parents face heavy fines, they will give birth to a boy.As a result,it will lead to the decline of female population. The above is from the point of view of parents, but from the children's point of view we can see that the one-child policy implies that the only child must afford all the family without from brothers' or sisters' help when he grows up.They will have to take care of their parents and grandparents alone in the future. Due to the one-child policy, parents only have one child. It will result in parents' doting on their child.Since each family has only one child, parents can provide everything that the child want.So they can depend on their parents do anything,at......

Dream Career

...Taylor Buchanan Susan Wynn Technology and Human Values April 23, 2013 My Dream Career My dream career is definitely anything involving the arts. If I have to specify I would definitely have to say doing animation. Since I was a young child I've been captivated by all the Disney movies and cartoons that were on TV. Watching a cartoon if so much different from watching a normal television show with actual people. I've always loved the way that a cartoon can bring a smile to not only a child's face but an adult's face as well. It's been amazing to watch the way Disney has progressed with its animation department from the time I was an a child to be becoming an adult. I've always had a talent for drawing. Over the years I've won numerous awards and I just knew it was something that I wanted or at least envisioned myself doing for the rest of my life. When I was younger my mom enrolled my in an animation class at the Cleveland Institute of art. I was captivated. Every day I would come to class and sketch out another scene picture, which would be compiled with my other drawings and the end of the course and made into a short film. Although the video was only about two minutes long, it was amazing how my drawings came to life. We were even able to add a voice over. Watching my animation and seeing my classmate’s reaction was when I knew that this actually was what, I've been destined to do. During my senior year of high school I contemplated whether or not I......

The site also encourages unemployed individuals to plan ahead for future expenses. When people become unemployed and have difficulty in finding alternative employment they can encounter hardships, for example, health insurance continuation and mortgage payments. Dream Career

...An Appropriate Choice Skulbrick Colorado Mesa University An Appropriate Choice For me, an appropriate career choice is that of a substance abuse counselor (SAC). Teaching people with substance abuse and dependence issues to help themselves would give me significant job satisfaction. I have always been interested in the behavior of intoxicated people, the biological mechanisms that result in lowered inhibitions, diminished reasoning, and a tendency toward violence. I seek to understand the biopsychosocial variables that combine to facilitate the consumption of mood altering substances (Wallace, 2012). Additionally, I would like to develop insight into the process of addiction and the evidence based methods of treatment. My observations of impaired individuals tend to convince me of biopsychosocial reasons for substance abuse and associated behaviors. Therefore, my dream is to gain the knowledge to address the underlying motivation for substance abuse and addiction. (Walters & Rotgers, 2012). Employment Outlook As Miller, Scarborough, Clark, Leonard, and Keziah (2010) reported, the credentialing requirements for SACs vary significantly between the states. ......

Hardships

...Hardships Susana Aguilera Carrington College of California Hardships I decided to talk with my dad, he is 78 years old. He is retired and lives with my mom who is also retired. He worked at Campbell Soup Company for 42 years before he retired. He was very active in sports, played senior softball until his kidneys failed him. When we were talking about the different hardships that he has gone through or is afraid of going through, one came up more frequent than others and that was not being able to do the things that he used to or wants to. That is the hardest thing for him right now. He was so independent and loved to be outside working or wants to help his children; grandchildren do things or fix things for us. But there were others that came up as well that he may go through as well as others. The first is a hardship that anyone can go through and that income. Since my parents are both on fixed incomes, they need to stay on budget. He expressed that one can stress on how they will make it through the month. The stress of paying the mortgage, utilities, other bills or being able to afford the things that they want to enjoy at this time, like traveling. He says you work all your life to support your family and now you want to enjoy your life now but you can’t, that can be really depressing. He says he knows that it is hard for everyone right now with the economy being the way it is, but it’s so much harder for them to go out and get a job. It’s not only......

Dream Deferred and When I Was One and Twenty

...case with the poems "Dream Deferred" and "When I Was One and Twenty". They speak the same kind of concept in terms of life goals. In "When I Was One and Twenty", the old wise man says not to give your heart away so young because you will regret it. Whether he is talking about having your heart broken by someone at a young age or giving up on your dreams to settle down isn't known. If a person gives up on their dreams or puts them on the back burner to pursue a relationship, it is the same as a raisin in the sun. Although a raisin is a dried up grape that is still full of nutrition, it becomes hard and useless after a while. Such would be the case with life goals, if you put them on hold to pursue a relationship, they become useless over time and forgotten. If a young person enters a relationship while in college lets say, their focus is no longer on school really. Most want to spend as much time as possible with the other. As the writer looks back upon himself in "When I Was One and Twenty", he basically says that he should've listened to the old man's advice. He is only twenty two at that point and already regrets the decision he made to give his heart away. There are plenty of people that will tell you that they had given up on their dreams to continue a relationship. Whether it be letting a dream job be passed up or an opportunity to do something they have always wanted to. Some people might have the perfect relationship as one of their dreams. Giving your heart......

With Reference to One or Two Scenes of Your Choice, Explore the Comic and Other Effects of Misrule in Shakespeare’s a Midsummer Night’s Dream

...With reference to one or two scenes of your choice, explore the comic and other effects of misrule in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream Misrule has many effects in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. One of the effects of misrule is that it creates comedy and humorous scenes. Puck enters in this act as a prototypical Shakespearean character if misrule. Immediately, a sexual reference may be implied by the character of Puck ‘a lovely boy’ that has been ‘stolen’ by Titania as is later revealed in the act. The word ‘boy’ suggests that he is ‘young’ and this may lead a present day audience to question Oberon’s intentions. A Shakespearen audience though would not be surprised by the idea however as in Ancient Greece it was considered a higher form of love to be with a young male; who at the time would have been considered physical icons of society. A modern day audience would be in shock at this sexual reference. This is further justified when the fairy reveals that he is in fact an agent of misrule and calls him a ‘shrewd’ and ‘knavish sprite’. Here it is made abundantly clear that he misbehaves and is ‘shrewd’ or very astute in his understanding. This has a comic effect as he is called a ‘sprite’ and also informs the audience that they should be aware of Puck. Puck accepts these allegations as true and admits he is that ‘merry wanderer’. He then elaborately lists all of his misdeeds. He says he makes the ...

This article is intended solely for the personal use of the individual user and is not to be disseminated broadly. Dreaming, Vol. 1, No.4, 1991 The Effects of Dream Length on the Relationship Between Primary Process in Dreams and Creativity Glenn Livingston l and Ross Levin l ,2 The effects of dream length on the relationship between primaty process in dreams and a measure of creativity unconfounded by IQ was investigated in a sample of 93 graduate students using the Auld, Goldenberg, & Weiss (1968) Scale of Primary Process Thought (SPPT) and a modified Wallach-Kogan (1965) creativity batte/yo Consistent with previous research, total and mean primary process were found to correlate significantly with creativity (r = .28, P < .01 and r = .23, P < .05, respectively). Both significant relationships disappeared, however, once the effects of dream length were partialled out, confirming Wood, Sebba, & Domino's (1989-90) contention that this relationship may be artifactual. It is suggested that dream length as an individual difference in and of itself may thus be a more fruitful variable to examine in future research investigating the relationship between creativity and dreams. KEY WORDS: dreaming; dream length; primary process; creativity. The contention that creativity and dreaming may reflect similar psychological processes has long been maintained by...

Loved Ones

...Losing Loved Ones Kyla Jones SW Death and Dying Oakland University Abstract Death is something I personally think about a lot. I have not experienced much loss, but the losses I have experienced have affected me enough to the point of thinking about why people die at random times of the day. I have had a total of five deaths of family and friends in my 20 years of life. They have all been within a few years of each other but the first death there was a larger gap in between until the next death. The first death I experience was my Grandma’s best friend Kim, then my Grandma’s Sister Carol, then my great great grandpa, then my father and last but not lease my friend who was like a younger brother to me. Some of these had a major impact on how I view death and how I am when death is a topic of concern for most people. At the age of 20 I can say I am not afraid of death because I have accepted that it will happen to anyone, and if it is your time to go then God believes it is your time to go. I look back and wished I handled myself a little different when it came to certain deaths, but once I experienced a death of someone really close to me that was the one that really made me question what is the point of living if we are going to die anyways? But if I experience another death soon, I believe I know how to deal with it head on and be able to help the other people who are affected by it as well. I am very thankful for having people surround me and explain to me more so......

Two-Career Family Versus One-Career Family

...Two-Career Family Versus One-Career Family My paper will focus on the differences and the similarities between the two career families and one career families, and will give ideas regarding which of the two is better in the development of the individual career. There are various studies that focus on the career development of the individual and how the work is connected with the non-work lives of people. There are divergent studies that show the strong relationship of family and work. It shows that the developmental needs of the family will produce incomplete understanding regarding the career dynamics (Arthur & Hall 1989, p. 159). One of the main differences between the two career family and the one career family is the focus on the roles and the responsibilities of the parents, concerning the many needs of the family. The one career family is what we call the traditional setup, where the male’s major task is to be the financial provider and have great influence over them. Men primarily handles the decision-making process, while the women assumes the responsibility of taking care of the home, caring and raising the kids, managing household chores, cooking, and handling day-to-day errands. Some of the one career families focus on the fact that some men place a lot of heart and attention on their own career, whereas, family time is considered a secondary responsibility. On the other hand, the two career family is considered the product of evolution, and the development...

A Loved One Lost

...A Loved One Lost It was a quiet summer night and I was just sitting in my room watching TV. My fan was blowing refreshing cool air on me and it helped relieve me from the heat of the summer. It was also a little annoying as it makes a whirring noise, but despite the sounds it was still very calm and relaxing. My mom was in our computer room playing on the computer just as usual. My dad was asleep in his bed at an early time as he usual. My brother was downstairs in his room and everything seemed just fine. However, there was something in the back of my mind that I was thinking about that kept me from being completely relaxed. Something that I just couldn’t help but think about that made me a little less than relaxed. My grandma was having a double bypass heart surgery and I was a little worried about her. My mom and dad had both assured me that everything was going to be fine, but I couldn’t help but worry a little bit. She was my grandma after all and I loved her and she loved me and I didn’t want anything to happen to her. All of a sudden I heard “ring, ring, ring” it was the phone. I didn’t think anything of it at first, but then I thought to myself how it was kind of an odd time for a phone call because it was a little late. Luckily my room is right next to our computer room, which is where my mom was. Also fortunate for me, the walls aren’t very thick and my mom has a loud voice so I could hear everything that she was saying. However, I didn’t know who she was......
