...Human Resource Management Employees at Starbucks are vital to the company’s success. They are its public face, and every dollar of sales passes through their hands. Howard Schultz and Dori Jones Yang, Pour Your Heart into It: How Starbucks Built a Company One Cup at a Time (New York: Hyperion, 1997), 125. According to Howard Schultz, they can make or break the company. If a customer has a positive interaction with an employee, the customer will come back. If an encounter is negative, the customer is probably gone for good. That’s why it’s crucial for Starbucks to recruit and hire the right people, train them properly, motivate them to do their best, and encourage them to stay with the company. Thus, the company works to provide satisfying jobs, a positive work environment, appropriate work schedules, and fair compensation and benefits. These activities are part of Starbucks’s strategy to deploy human resources in order to gain competitive advantage. The process is called human resource management (HRM), which consists of all actions that an organization takes to attract, develop, and retain quality employees. Each of these activities is complex. Attracting talented employees involves the recruitment of qualified candidates and the selection of those who best fit the organization’s needs. Development encompasses both new-employee orientation and the training and development of current workers. Retaining good employees means motivating them to excel, appraising their......

It consists of practices that help the organization to deal effectively with its people during the various phases of the employment cycle, including pre-hire, staffing, and post-hire. Human resource has a historical background since ancient times. Traditional HR it separate functions such as staffing, training and development, compensation, safety and health, and labor relations were created and placed under the direction of human resource manager or executive. Large firms might have had a manager and staff for each HR function that reported to the HR executive. The HR president worked closely with top management in formulating corporate policy. Today, HR tasks are often performed differently than they were even decade ago. “As more and more companies use alternative means to accomplish HR tasks, the role of traditional HR manager has changed. HR is now involved more in strategic HR, focusing more on the bottom line of organization and leaving the more administrative tasks to technology or others”, Mondy, R., & Mondy, J. (2012). ...accounting field and is geared towards professionally designated accountants. TFDL also has different offices in various cities so that applicants can contact the office which specializes in recruiting for positions in their area. For example TFDL has a Mississauga division which basically focuses on vacancies in the Mississauga area. Workopolis on the other hand is basically a job search engine in which applicants can search for job advertisements in virtually any field, any city and province. The search engine does allow the incumbent to narrow their search to specific cities and for specific job openings however since it is essentially a database, it is overloaded with information. The website also provides other links such as career resources such as salary calculator, advice, resume rescue and so on. I believe that most job applicants would tend to visit the Workopolis search engine site first since it is very well known and it is a good place to incumbents to start to gain some insight as to what types of jobs are available in the market, and which cities have more openings in their field. Candidates who are looking for job advertisements especially in the accounting field would tend to visit TFDL website as it is catered towards these individuals. Of the 4 advertisements, I feel the HR Manager Accounting Manager job advertisement were the two best as they provided the most detail with respect to the hiring company, the responsibilities required of......
