Radio Waves & Electromagnetic Fields SIM Homework
1) For this question, use the Radio Waves & Electromagnetic Fields simulation to guide your understanding of how Radio broadcasting and Radio receivers work.
a) How is the radiating electric field (or electromagnetic signal) produced when radio stations broadcast? Include a description of what is producing the signal as well as the reasoning behind how this could produce a signal.
b) How does your antenna work to detect this electromagnetic signal produced when radio stations broadcast? Include the physics principles that support your description of how this signal is detected.
2) Using the simulation, adjust the transmitter so that it is in sinusoidal mode and the electrons are oscillating up and down at a regular frequency. This is how radio waves are broadcast. Set it so that both “display the curve” and the “radiated field” boxes are checked.
a) What does the curve represent?
The line of electrons being sprayed off of the antenna that then cause the receiver electron to move.
The path that an electron will follow due to the electromagnetic wave.
The evenly spaced electrons moving up and down between the two antennae.
The field of negative charges that are moving through space.
The strength and direction of the force that would be exerted by the electromagnetic wave on an electron.
b) With the frequency set at the mid-point of the slider and the amplitude set at the mid-point of the slider, approximately how many grid marks is the wavelength of the wave (use the pause button and step button as you need to in order to get a good measure, and round to the nearest whole grid mark)?
If the amplitude is increased, the wavelength decreases increases

stays the same

c) Use the simulation to evaluate the following statements.
False If the oscillation frequency of the transmitting electron decreases, the oscillation frequency of the electron in the receiver is instantaneously affected. True
False The electron in the receiving antenna oscillates at a lower frequency than the electron in the transmitting antenna because of the distance between the antennas.
False If the frequency of oscillation increases but the amplitude of the electron oscillation remains the same, then the electron in the transmitting antenna is experiencing larger accelerations (recall what you know about acceleration and motion). True
False If the amplitude increases but frequency remains the same, the electron at the receiving antenna experiences larger peak forces but oscillates at the same frequency as before.
False If the frequency of the transmitting electron decreases by a factor of two, it will now take longer for the electromagnetic signal to reach the receiving antenna.

False If the frequency decreases, the wavelength decreases.

False The electromagnetic waves generated by the transmitting antenna produce currents in the receiving antenna.
False When the electron in the transmitting antenna is at its peak height, the electron in the receiving antenna is always also at its peak height.
Explain your reasoning to your answer for the T/F If the frequency of oscillation increases but the amplitude of the electron oscillation remains the same, then the electron in the transmitting antenna is experiencing larger accelerations (recall what you know about acceleration and motion). Include in your explanation how this affects the strength of the transmitted electromagnetic signal (revisit the simulation if you did not notice what happened to the strength of the transmitted signal).
d) For the radio wave transmitter in the simulation, which of the following orientations of the receiver antenna will pick up the signal? (Select all that will) an antenna oriented vertically an antenna oriented horizontally (parallel to the ground) with one tip pointing towards the transmitting antenna (so it is oriented East-West) an antenna oriented horizontally and perpendicular to the antenna in the previous answer (so it is oriented North-South)

e) Which one of the following sets of graphs of position vs. time, velocity vs. time, and acceleration vs. time corresponds with the motion of the electron in the receiving antenna? (It may help to remember the relationship between force and acceleration, and use the “Step” feature to step through the motion of the electron and have the vectors display the “force on an electron”.)

The correct graph is…...

...O que é feito do “THE SIMS”?

Tom Sims

...Name Teacher NAme Tom Sims 11 December 2012 ` Ever wonder who revolutionized downhill snow sports? I can tell you that. One day in school Tom Sims was in his 7th grade shop class and he had to do an engineering project and he wanted to make a skateboard that you could use in the snow. If it wasn’t for Tom Sims I don’t know whether or not there would be snowboarding or even skiing. He is the godfather of snowboarding and aggressive downhill skiing. The way he thought of it is when he couldn’t skate in New Jersey in the winter and that frustrated him. So he invented a ski board, which is a snowboard just with a different name. So that winter he had something to use in the winter and then it just hit. He had owned his own skateboarding shop for a while after he got out of school, and Tony Hawk road for his skateboards, but then he wanted to add his invention in 7th grade to his production list. So he tried to get them on their in the late 1970’s but he didn’t have enough money for it so he had to put it off for awhile, but he didn’t tell anyone about it. Because he wanted it to be a surprise. So then in the early 1980’s he put them on his production line and they called “Sims Snowboards”. It was basically a huge hit when he produced them. People loved it, it was Americas next big thing. After the snowboards came along in the mid 1980’s Tom Sims decided he wanted to spice things up with them. So what he did was wanted to make jumps so u could get big air just like......

...11. List the five steps of hypothesis testing, and explain the procedure and logic of each. Step 1: Restate the Question as a Research Hypothesis and a Null Hypothesis about the Populations. You want to restate the question as research hypothesis and null hypothesis about the populations because it allows you to think of two different samples. The research hypothesis and the null are opposite of each other. One is true and the other is not. The researcher predicts something and researches it and the null hypothesis says there will be no difference if what the researcher predicts. The logic is figuring out the probability of getting a particular result if the null hypothesis is true. Step 2: Determine the Characteristics of the Comparison Distribution In the hypothesis-testing process, you compare the actual sample’s score to this comparison distribution. The comparison distribution is the distribution that represents the population situation if the null hypothesis is true. If the null is true both samples will have a normal curve. Step 3: Determine the Cutoff Sample Score on the Comparison Distribution at Which the Null Hypothesis Should Be Rejected You will need Z scores and percentages, if a researcher decides that the score is lower than a certain percent then they would reject the null. Psychology researchers use a cutoff on the comparison distribution with a probability of 5% that a score will be at least that extreme if the null hypothesis were true. They are......

The Sims

...I would like to focus on the last genre, construction. After defining what the constructivist approach symbolizes, I will use the example of the online gaming series, “The Sims,” to show how this genre differs from the academic and entertainment types in terms of content, benefits, and advertising techniques. The construction genre is often also called authoring, for it involves a player who is the writer, builder, or creator. “This constructivist approach focuses less on conveying academic or cultural content and more on providing tools for construction and tinkering… They draw less on explicit educational ideologies or images of play and more on images of mastery and control” (101). This genre integrates both education and entertainment, in a way. The games associated with this category provide children with a toolkit to create simulations. For example, a popular online game is called “The Sims.” It represents a life simulation game, or a “sandbox game,” in that it lacks any defined goals. Players create every physical and even emotional feature of their “Sim.” Directing their moods and satisfying their desires are the only true goals of the game. Building a town or constructing a house for your Sims is also part of the game. Some argue that it lacks educational purposes, but I beg to differ. The Sims certainly satisfies the player in terms of amusement and pleasure, but the game can also be beneficial to a certain degree. It can teach a child how to make effective......

...Mariajose Anare ACG 4401 M & W August 31, 2015 Chapter 1 HW DQ1 The cost and benefits of information may be difficult to quantify as the book estates. And given the difficulty at times any organization may produce information that exceeds cost without realizing it until it too late. Producing information that is valuable but costly does not sound like a good idea, however there are times when organization are force by law to produce information regardless of the cost. For example the IRS mandates regular tax reports quarterly; this practice may cause the organization you spend more than the benefit they may obtain from the information. DQ2 The characteristics that make information useful could go both ways; it can be met simultaneously or one can hider another. For example when information is accessible to users, then it becomes verifiable because independent users can check it; when information is verifiable, then it is reliable because it can be trusted. Information that is relevant it’s usually understandable and presented at the right time. However there are times when a focus on one particular characteristic may lessen others. If the focus is to have a complete report, it may not necessarily be presented at the proper time. Therefore complete information may not be timely. Accessible information may not always be easily understandable making it unverifiable. Problem 4 1. Relevant – F. An accountant receivable aging report is used in......
