...Charli Davis Donna Folmar Med Law 101 May 7, 2012 Researchers believe that stem cells hold the key to incurable diseases such as, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, diabetes and many others. The benefits of stem cell research have such a great outcome that it out weighs the ethical issues at hand (In Stem Cell Information. Bethesda, MD: National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,2012). Pro’s Critics against stem cell research argue, that the ethical issues do not justify the benefits, that a life is a life and that should never be compromised (The real Promise of Stem Cell Research, Dr. David Prentice: HeathDigestNews.com).What these critics do not understand, is that, in the future stem cell research can allow scientists to test a number of drugs and medicines with out carrying out tests on humans and animals. The drug can be tested on a population of cells directly (stem cells.nih.gov/policy/2009guidelines.html). Funding President Bush announced federal funding for stem cell research in August 2001, six years later in 2007 a banned had been placed on the funding bringing most researchers to a hault. In March of 2009, President Barack Obama, lifted the ban on federal funding for stem cell research (www.action bioscience.org/biotech/chapman.html,2011). Many critics that are against stem cell research became angry that their tax dollars where going towards funding for something they thought unethical. If the......

...getting overwhelmed. To start, I would explain that this involves three different phases: the run, swim, and bike. So they will be working different muscle groups for each activity and that they are all big muscle groups of the body. Instead of looking at the big picture I would have them break it down and focus on small goals. Some smaller goals to start with would be start running two-three days a week for about 1-2 miles. Once comfortable with that register for a 5K run. After that set a goal for a 10K run. While including the runs I would also incorporate strength training and maybe suggest they meet with a trainer once or twice a week for 30 minutes to work on strength making sure the trainer knows what they are training for so they can work the proper muscle groups. I would also suggest maybe a cycling class as biking can be somewhat lonely. Again, I would start small and celebrate the small accomplishments, then move on to the next goal. I would have them write it all down on separate pieces of paper so that they are only concentrating on one goal at a time. For example, the first piece could be: run 2-3 miles 2 days/week, strength train once a day and cycle once a week for the first week increasing intensity as needed. Next I would suggest that they maybe try and do this with a friend or family member. That way they have a support group not only behind them but with them. Also, if they do sign with a personal trainer they will have additional support......

...experiences could include things like looking at the world from a religious perspective. Vision experiences A vision experience is one in which God or the divine is ‘seen’ or ‘observed’. In the vision information may be revealed, so dreams are described by theologians as noetic and revelatory. Voices In Christian tradition, religious experiences of God can often be associated with the idea of hearing. Hearing in this case means more than an audible voice, but also the communication of knowledge. The voice is usually linked to God. Often the voice of God is one aspect or a religious experience which could, for example, be a mystical experience. William James William James in his book ‘The Varieties of Religious Experience: A Study in Human Nature’, investigated a large number of accounts of religious experiences. He was interested in exploring the nature of the wide variety of religious experiences that people have. This interested James because he assumed that religious experience was the source of religious institutions such as churches. Churches, for James, were secondary to each individual person’s religious experiences. James suggested that religious experiences were events which were ‘solidarity’ and in which individuals experienced the divine or God – the religious tradition to which the person belongs is relatively unimportant. One of James’ achievements was to identify some of the characteristics of religious experiences as wide-ranging as visions to......

...new and exciting technology. Building on their cult following, Apple began to promote their new iPhone, giving little details on how to buy one and what services would be allowed. For other companies, not providing enough information for new products might be a death wish, however, Apple understood that their following was so great, that limited teasers of their new iPhone would only generate more buzz and eventually more sales. This strategy paid off for Apple. David Yoffie, professor at Harvard Business School, said that Apple generated the equivalent of four hundred million dollars in free publicity. It isn¡¦t that Apple was the first to integrate a MP3 player into a cell phone; rather they were able to build on their reputation of outstanding, quality electronics, coupled with better technology, to create a product that was sure to please. Cell phone manufacturers had already been innovating, combining some of the technologies that we find useful such as cameras and music players into cell phones. These phones, however, were limited by very small internal memory, with memory cards available Depending on who you ask, the iPhone is either the greatest electronic device to grace the planet or an overpriced, over hyped status gadget sold to rubes with more credit than sense, says Arik Hesseldahl of Business Week Online. Whether or not one sees Apple¡¦s iPhone as flawless or a flop, it is a device that demands our attention not only for its unprecedented features but from a......

...The painting “At the Moulin Rouge” in my eyes is a really interesting work of art. The way Henri-de-Toulouse-Lautrec painted the women’s faces is extremely unique to me. He makes the men’s faces normal (normal skin tones and features) the women’s faces are slightly different from the norm. One women has a green face and slightly different features, the other women’s face is yellow and has longer eyes. Henri-de-Toulouse-Lautrec started painting “At the Moulin Rouge” in 1892 and finished in 1895. The painting portrays a group of three men and two women sitting around an old wooden table. The people in the paintings are Edouard Dujardin, La Macarona, Paul Secau, Maurice Guilbert and May Milton. There are many more famous faces in the painting as well. The painting “At the Moulin Rouge” is oil on canvas. Its dimensions are 123cm x 140 cm. The painting is stored at the Art Institute of Chicago. Henri-de-Toulouse-Lautrec was born on the 24th of November in 1864. He was born in a city called Albi in France. He was a member of an aristocratic family. He had a younger brother that died at a year old. Not being able to deal with the mourning of their late son, his parents soon separated after. When Henri turned eight he went to live with his mother in Paris. His family quickly started noticing his artistic talents when he started drawing sketches in his notebooks. In 1875 Henri-de-Toulouse-Lautrec returned to Albi, France because he started having health problems. Henri’s parents......

...“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” It may be a bit of a stretch to say everyone in the English speaking world knows what movie that quote is from, but it’s not that long of one. Since its 1986 release “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” has become an American classic, and its late director John Hughes became a king in the teen movie genre. Hughes wrote countless classic ’80s films, such as “Pretty in Pink,” the first two “Home Alone” films, “Christmas Vacation” and “Flubber.” The man penned some classic one-liners and also wrote quite a few life lessons into his films. That spurs the question — what other films from the 1980s include valuable life lessons? Yes, the ’80s are the butt of all decade jokes, but where would America be without those crucial 10 years of big ugly hair, heavy eye makeup and leg warmers? No matter the fashion, people were still people in the ’80s, and there’s always something to be gleaned from the past. We’ll examine life lessons taught to us by several films from the ’80s; “The Breakfast Club,” “Pretty in Pink,” “Back to the Future,” “Heathers” and (how could we not?) “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” Unknown-3 You never know what kind of friends you’ll make in detention. Photo from IMDb. “The Breakfast Club:” One of the most important lessons in “The Breakfast Club” is to not judge someone based on first impressions. Did anyone honestly expect a beauty queen and a rebel to fall for each other?......

...As you know I have been working to analyze the relevant costs in regards to the quality variations we’ve been encountering for our Ply Carrier project. Though all costs types apply in some respect, you will find that some costs are more relevant to our current situation than others. You will find the three costs (appraisal, prevention, and failure) detailed below: For the most part, we already have the applicable quality measures that relate to our Appraisal costs in place. A quality inspection is completed every time a Ply Carrier is completed, this inspection is done with the proper updated form, equipment, and by someone other than the person who produced the original part. Though these items are done with regulated consistency, there is the continued possibility of human error. The periodical analysis of the quality assurance forms could provide us additional insight into our production process. As of right now, we do not use the QA forms for anything other than an insight if an external failure occurs; evaluating these forms to gain a broader understanding of our products random and non-random variations could reduce costs in the long run. Preventative costs are more relative to our current production process. Though we have minor policies in place that prevent defects from appearing during the production process, they are not regulated diligently and sometimes do not occur at all. Out of the 15 materials that are used to create a Ply Carrier, only the Upper......

...Why building damage is an important community issue? Building damage is a community issue for multiple reasons: 1. If no one is found guilty, the entire floor/dorm has to split the damage costs equally 2. Threatens the safety of people living in the dorms and makes people feel scared of certain areas of the dorm. 3. Causes maintenance crews to spend valuable time fixing things that should not have been broken in the first place. Crews should be spending time upgrading our campuses rather then fixing things that were already nicely put in place. Why it is important to come forward when building damage is caused? It is important to come forward when building damage is caused because: 1. If you don’t come forward, everyone in the entire dorm will get hit with a fee for something they had nothing to do. For example, if you break a washer and don’t come forward, everyone will have to pay for a new washer even if they haven’t even used that specific washer before. 2. Also, if you don’t come forward you will always have that monkey on your back that you caused people to pay for something they never did. 3. If you don’t come forward, eventually evidence can arise that you broke the specific object. Your punishment will be significantly worse and your reputation will be destroyed. Community billing charges and procedures To expand upon building charges and procedures: 1. Once a situation arises, everyone involved will be processed and......

...Witnessing implies that the nurse’s own spir- itual journey provides personal knowledge of and belief in the pa- tient’s inner healing resources, and results in expanded conscious awareness, which transcends analysis and perception. This expanded consciousness, essential to healing presence, coordinates with values prized in human developmental stages and scientific evidence from quantum physics. This book is logically organized into four sections: In Section I the author describes her personal experience with rituals of a Native American community that facilitated her severely ill daughter’s healing. In Section II the author introduces energy fields of body, mind and spirit which reflect nurses’ healing pres- ence and healing path. In Section III, the author provides a recipe for the spiritual evolution of the individual nurse seeking a pur- poseful life as a healing presence; and in Section IV the author de- scribes how the evolution of nursing leadership can transform the organizational context of nursing practice to one of healing energy fields. Practical exercises found at the end of each chapter, such as ‘becoming a healing presence’ in chapter four or ‘discerning essence’ exercises at the conclusion of both chapter six and chap- ter ten raise thoughtful questions germane to the reality of the nurse’s spiritual and professional context. End of chapter refer- ences provide useful access to the past 40 years of knowledge from quantum physics, scientific theories,......
