An insurance agent career can be fulfilling and lucrative. Agents help people protect their homes, businesses and personal belongings. Depending upon what insurance agent career path is taken, agents may also be helping others to protect their families. Insurance agents have unlimited earning potential. But is an insurance agent career the right choice?
The description of an insurance agent career has changed over the years, but the essential job description remains the same. Agents have to enjoy working with people in order to have a successful insurance agent career. Insurance agents have to face some very stressed out and unhappy customers in the event that they experience a loss, and it’s up to the agent to run interference with a cheerful and positive attitude. Negotiating skills, motivation, a comfort level with insurance advice and some computer and internet skills are also a necessary part of the insurance agent job description.
Independent insurance agency jobs work for multiple insurance carriers, but aren’t officially employed by any of them. The benefits of an independent insurance agent career include a higher earning potential than working for an insurance company. In addition, the freedom of self-employment allows people to decide who they want to work with and where to place insurance. The downside is that a lot of new independent insurance agent careers fizzle out quickly without the marketing and training provided by an agency or insurance carrier.
Taking an insurance agent job with an agency has a hybrid of benefits shared by independent insurance agent and corporate insurance agent jobs. These agents will most likely receive some benefits and a regular paycheck, but may not get the higher commissions afforded by being an independent insurance agent

...A Day in an Insurance Agent's Life On a typical day an insurance agent might perform some of the following duties:   prepare daily, monthly and annual reports   Maintenance of track records   Seeking new clients   Relationship building with the existing and new clients  In the event of filing of an insurance claim, assist the policyholders regarding filing of claims   Certain insurance agents may also offer their clients comprehensive financial planning services viz. retirement planning or assistance in setting up pension plans for businesses etc.  The differences between insurance agents and insurance brokers are enlisted below: Insurance Agents - Insurance agents are insurance professionals that serve as an intermediary between the insurance company and the insured. As a broad statement of law, an insurance agent’s liability to their customers is purely administrative in nature. That is, agents are only responsible for the timely and accurate processing of forms, premiums and paperwork. Agents have no duty to conduct a thorough examination of an individual’s business or to make sure that appropriate health insurance coverage has been provided to the concerned individual. Rather, it is the customer’s obligation to make sure that he/she has purchased the required/desired insurance coverage.  Insurance Brokers - Insurance brokers can be best described as a kind of super-independent agent. Brokers can offer a whole host of insurance products and services for an......

...Manzana Insurance The Fruitvale branch is not faring well, they are behind competitor Golden Gate in new policies(375 to 326 in favor of Golden Gate), endorsements(300 to 206 in favor of Golden Gate), renewals (1,400 to 1,063 in favor of Golden Gate), turnaround time (2 days to 6 days in favor of Golden Gate), and renewal loss rate (15% to 47% in favor of Golden Gate) in the most recent quarter. The number of renewals, and endorsements at the Fruitvale branch are lower than they were for the same quarter the previous year, and the turnaround time, number of late renewals, and renewal loss rate have increased. The Fruitvale branch has performed especially poorly during the 1991. The main cause of the problems is that the Fruitvale branch processes RERUNS last because they are seen as less profitable than new policies. When RERUNS aren’t provided by the due date, it displeases customers and causes them not to choose to renew the policy with Manzana. In a market where prices are essentially identical, customers value the service they receive and how fast their requests can be processed. Therefore, since the Fruitvale branch is falling behind in this regard, the renewal loss rate is at a record high. Additionally, if a renewed policy is late, the insurance agent is likely to suggest another agency to customers, thus adding to the low retention rate. To make matters worse, only 15% of RAPs become RUNs, so they aren’t acquiring a large number of......

Difference from Insurance Agent and Insurance Broker

...Yes there are differences between an insurance agent and an insurance broker. An insurance broker represents the person who is looking to purchase insurance; the broker’s job is to find the buyer the best policy. To find the best policy for the buy an agent will do comparison shopping for their customer. Anyone can become and insurance broker as long as they complete the required training in the state that are selling insurance. Because the laws and practices change in the insurance industry the broker must keep up to date with continued education. Brokers can work with any company because they are independent contractors. Insurance agents will need training and to be licensed in the state they sell insurance just like the broker. The agent is licensed to sell for one or more specific insurance companies. In most cases the insurance agent is employed by a single insurance company, this type of agent is called a captive agent, and can only sell the products the company they work for sells. The difference from an insurance agent and an insurance broker can be important to the consumer. The importance of the differences depends on whether or not the consumer knows what kind and how much coverage they will need. If you know how much coverage you will need then it will probably be best to deal with the insurance company. On the other hand if you are unsure then it would be best to deal with an agent or broker. The agent works for a particular company and will want to sell you...

As time went on, some British insurers appointed Nigerian agents to represent their interest in the country. These agents later metamorphosed into full branch offices of their parent companies in Britain. The first branch office in Nigeria was the Royal Exchange Assurance in 1921, later followed by other British companies. Indigenous Nigerian insurers and re-insurers later followed such as NICON established in 1969 and Nigeria Reinsurance Corporation established in 1977.
