* MURALLA ST.
The street literally means wall, a fortification against invaders. The street is located at the inner edges of the walls. Before they consisted of three different streets: Calle Fundicion (Foundry) in the current PLM stretch of the walls, Calle Baluarte fronting the San Juan de Letran and the original Calle Muralla behind the San Juan de Letran. Most of the pre-war structures on this part of Intramuros were obliterated during and after the last war. Today, modern buildings occupy the site. Only markers describe the glorious architecture of churches and buildings that once stood on this side of the Walled City.

* LPU GATE 2 WELCOME THE GUEST
(REAL STREET- The Street is just one of the numerous Calle Real that existed during the Spanish Period. It is from the word Real which means Royal. The Street is formerly known as Calle del Parian because it passes through the Parian Gate and the Parian District outside Intramuros.)
Founder, Dr. Jose P. Laurel. The only president to have served in all three branches of the Government, Dr. Laurel was a successful lawyer, legislator, constitutionalist, jurist, writer, scholar, statesman, philosopher, and above all things, an educator. The inspiration to establish a school came to him in the early 1920’s. He turned this dream into a reality. With the aim of becoming a center of academic excellence in the Philippines and the Far East, Lyceum of the Philippines University (then still a college) formally opened its doors to the public on July 7, 1952. The school’s motto, “Veritas et Fortitudo, Pro Deo et Patria”, reflects Dr. Laurel’s belief in the value of learning and character formation for God and country. In 1966, he founded the Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas followed by Lyceum of the Philippines-Laguna in 2000. Both campuses are now headed by Senator Laurel’s fourth son, Peter, who was…...

Intramuros

...INTRAMUROS HISTORY: Pre-Hispanic period The strategic location of Manila along the bayand at the mouth of Pasig River made it an ideal location for the Tagalog andKapampangan tribes and kingdoms to trade with merchants from China, India, Borneo andIndonesia. Before the first arrival of Europeans on Luzonisland, the island was part of the Majapahitempire around the 14th century, according to the epic eulogy poem Nagarakretagama which described its conquest by MahārājaHayam Wuruk.[6] The region was invaded around 1485 by Sultan Bolkiah and became a part of the Sultanate of Brunei.[7] The site of Intramuros then became a part of theIslamic Kingdom of Maynila ruled by various Datus, Rajas and the Sultan. Spanish conquest of Manila In 1564, Spanish explorers led by Miguel López de Legazpi sailed from New Spain(now Mexico), and arrived on the island of Cebu on February 13, 1565, establishing the first Spanish colony in the Philippines. Having heard of the rich resources in Manilafrom the natives, Legazpi dispatched two of his lieutenant-commanders, Martín de Goiti and Juan de Salcedo to explore the northern regions of the Visayan islands. The Spaniards arrived on the island of Luzon in 1570. After quarrel and misunderstandings between the Islamic natives and the Spaniards, they fought for the control of the land and settlements. After several months of warfare, the natives were defeated, and the Spaniards made a peace pact with the tribal councils of Rajah Sulaiman......

The Grand Tour

...The Grand Tour In the past, "Grand Tour" was the name of the journey that mostly northern European nobles and rich bourgeois took to southern Europe to discover its ancient beauty and its incomparable richness of arts and culture. This type of travel began in the seventeenth century for the sake of education and experience, but the great age of the Grand Tour was the eighteenth century. At this time the travel experience was practically viewed as a requirement for wealthy Europeans as a transition from their school life to their “adulthood in which the young man might be expected to set an example of responsibility.” Italy and France were the most frequented places by these tourists due to their cultural richness, with particular interest in Paris. As the custom of travel developed, nature also became an important factor of the Grand Tour, as the Alps became an attractive destination for the travelers. The tour was more than a “passing fashion” because of its role as fundamental cultural training for cultivated Europeans. The majority of those who had traveled to Italy in previous centuries had generally gone for work related or religious reasons. However, this travel was compatible with leisure, because “it fulfilled important cultural functions as travelers bought works of art or helped spread new tastes and cultural interests”. Although the religious and political tensions caused by Protestant Reformation affected the ability to travel, by the seventeenth century,......

...government regulations, environmental issues, and technology advancements. Further examining the definition of tourism forces confusion of the accuracy of UNWTO’s explanation as technical definitions can be ambiguous. To define tourism generically will become inaccurate as the definition will not account for changes made to the industry over time as well as the different meanings and interpretations of tourism at all levels of the system as well as around the world. Intramuros

...to be exactly what Jose Rizal described in his famous book, "Noli Me Tangere". Intramuros is often referred to as the "Walled City". This is because it is literally enclosed with thick high stonewalls. Last Wednesday, August, 13, 2014, I, along with my group mates, visited Intramuros. I had been before, several times actually, for basketball games, parties and gatherings but never really to see and tour the city. It was only until last Wednesday that I realized that it was such an amazing city. For some reason, everything just seemed so fascinating and enthralling. We got on a horse-driven carriage, or what Filipinos refer to as a "kalesa", and explored the city. Everything in Intramuros is so well preserved. The long and tight stoned streets, the grand lampposts, the huge stone buildings that were turned into company offices, the massive steel-barred gates, the grand churches, everything just seemed so full of life. My imagination ran wild, there was so much life to everything that it seemed so possible any minute then to see Sisa, the crazy woman in Noli Me Tangere, suddenly run out of San Agustin Church screaming her head off for mercy or to see Juan Crisostomo Ibarra, another character of Noli Me Tangere, walking around the streets in deep thought, as he was usually described in the book. The students of MAPUA and Lycyeum University all seemed to have their own agendas, tourists followed their tour guides in awe, soldiers, dressed up so elegantly, guarded their posts,......

The Tour

...Charles Lucas Brenda Craven English Composition 101VA 1 July 2013 The Tour As a young man, leaving your home country for the first time is a very scary endeavor. I had barely left the small state of West Virginia, much less, traveled abroad to a whole other continent. I was about to embark upon the second adventure of my adult life. The first being my first airplane ride to attend basic training at Fort Bliss, in El Paso, Texas. I was happy to be doing be doing things as an adult, and I was proud to serve my country, yet I was very anxious about what may lie ahead for me. I guess at that age, and my lack of experience, I could not understand why I was going to Korea. There was no war going on there, and I was an American soldier. What in the world would I need to do in the Republic of Korea? I considered myself to be a lucky man. because I was going on what was considered to be a hardship tour. I was afforded the opportunity to take 30 days leave from the US Army, to spend with my family. I explained to my loved ones that I would be stationed in South Korea for a year, and I would not be home until the completion of my tour. My mom took it a little harder than everyone else, but she managed to pull herself together, and just enjoy the few days we had together. I visited with everyone to say my last good byes, and then it was time to go. My journey began on the 27th of December in 1985. I arrived at the small airport in Charleston, West......

Bangon Tours

...The Bangon Tours Project is a project of the Department of Tourism and the Tourism Promotions Board undertaken by travel agencies and tour operators to maintain and strengthen the health of the country’s domestic tourism, to push international tourism, and to speed up recovery. Bangon Tours encourages the Filipino market to travel within the Philippines during the holiday period from December to February, to visit our country’s fun destinations, and to contribute their share in our recovery and rebuilding efforts. We all know that for the few remaining months of 2013, a number of consecutive calamities happened in our country. And because of this we have experienced a slowdown of arrival growth rate in our domestic tourism. This project of the Department of Tourism is a great opportunity to help victims and survivors of the calamities that happened and at the same time, I think this is also a great way on how to promote domestic tourism in the Philippines. It is true that domestic tourism has indeed slowdown because of the calamities that happened especially to our major tourism contributors like Bohol, Cebu and Northern Palawan. We saw trees being toppled down by the raging storm, roads were devastated and blocked by fallen trees, broken bridges, and heritage sites like Loboc Church in Bohol collapsed due to a magnitude 7.2 earthquake that struck Visayas region last October 2013. But despite all of this, it’s overwhelming to see the efforts from our fellow countrymen who......

Tour

...A Tour to St.Dominic Church and Bataan Tourism “If you don’t know history, then you don’t know anything. You are a leaf that doesn’t know it is part of a tree.”- Michael Crichton. If history is unknown to us how would we appreciate the present times? Participating to tours that shows and imparts the history of something is a great opportunity to see and reflect why and what life has been today. Last September 23, 2015, Wednesday, together with my classmates we are blessed to witness historical places like the St. Dominic Parish Church and the Bataan Tourism Center which caters different historical events and contributions of our fellow Filipinos here at Bataan. First stop is the Saint Dominic Parish Church which is known as Abucay Church, located at Brgy. Laon, Abucay, Bataan. The church is founded by Dominican Missionary Friars and built to be dedicated to St. Dominic de Guzman. This church witnessed the massacre of hundreds of Filipinos and Spaniards by the Dutch invaders. The building is more than 400 years old and one of the oldest church in the Philippines. The making of St. Dominic Parish Church was headed by Father Geronimo de Belen in early 1600s. Saint Dominic Church once suffered by a horrible damage because of the earthquake but still survived. On the later years it was destroyed by fire but was revived and reconstructed under Father Jose Diego Pelaez. This only shows how much we value our church as much as we value our creator. Second stop is the Bataan......

Manila Walk Tour

...WALK TOUR REACTION PAPER Last, Monday, September 21, 2015, we had our "Food" walk tour in Binondo with Mr. Ivan Dy. The tour was very tiring and at the same time stomach filling. It was tiring because the weather was so hot and we just walked to go to our destination. It was stomach filling because we went to 5 destinations and just ate chinese foods the entire tour. The foods were delicious. Mr. Ivan is a fun and entertaining tour guide. Even though he had mic, we werent able to understand some of what he’s saying. He wasn’t able to catch all the attention of the students. Last Sunday, September 27, 2015, we had our Intramuros tour with Mr. Carlos Celdran. The tour last for about 3 hours. It was called a walk tour but there really is not much walking. We went to 4 destinations and sit down to listen to him. The tour was tiring and at the same time interesting. It was tiring because the weather was kind of hot and there are many of us and it was interesting because Mr. Carlos Celdran made the tour very entertaining with his props, the changed of hats and the throwing of santan from his pocket. From the way he delivers, it looks like we were just watching a play. Every time he says the line “Walk This Way!” it excites everyone and follows him and you can see a smile on everyone’s faces. It was one of the reasons why the tour was exciting. He even gave all of us a chocolate, to be specific choc nut, for answering his question. I noticed that almost all the people who belong......
