Journal 3 I am a really glad Lenoir-Rhyne University offer the program Physical and Emotional support that includes a variety of resources to help students cultivate their physical and emotional health. These resources help students like myself to release some stress and help me find ways of how to balance my school and work so I can be successful in both. It has been very hard for me to go to school full time and work full time that occasionally I end up feeling like I can’t manage to do both things at the same time. The resources I have been able to use are the Fitness Center and the resource I want to use this upcoming week is the Career and Personal Development Center. I attended the Fitness Center on Wednesday September 5, 2012 and let me tell you I really enjoyed it. I ran on the elliptical for 30 minutes to get my cardio going and then I did some free-weights for my upper and lower body. After a long hour of sweat and hard work I decided to go for a swim. All an hour and a half of focusing on my health and body I noticed that a lot of my stress was gone and I felt so relieved and less overwhelmed. That being said, I will be attending the Fitness Center as much as I can this semester. It really does help by pumping up your endorphins (brain feels-goods and moves you away from your daily worries), and it helps improve your mood as well. By this week I will be scheduling an appointment to see a counselor at the Career & Personal Development…...

...1. What is the song’s title and artist? The name of the song is BBQ Stain by Tim McGraw. 2. What emotional mental responses did you have to the song the first time you listened to it? Why do you think you had this response? Initially, my response was “Uh-oh. Corny alert. Change station”. If I were to pin point why I had that response, I would probably say it’s the voice of all country singers. 3. While listening to the song, what happened to your appreciation level? Did it increase or decrease? Why? On some levels my appreciation has gone up due to the fact that I am listening to genuine music. What I mean about genuine music is that these apparently sing about everything and anything that goes through their mind. 4. In your opinion, what was the message (theme) of the song? If they really must know, the message is about getting a barbeque stain on his white T-shirt. 5. What about the song that most surprised you? The lyrics? The actual music? Your like or dislike of the song? The artists voice? When I first heard this song, I thought, “Wow! Country has run out of ideas.” But of all things that surprised me it was the fact that this song became really famous, and made number one. 6. If you HAD to say that you gained or learned one positive thing from this song, what would that be? Country singers, no matter what song they sing about, sing real songs from their heart. 7. Diversity in Workplace Journal 3

...Reflection journal I learned many aspects about myself that I need to be improve on based on this exercise. The pie chart showed me that my self- concepts and need to change. After answering the diversity questionnaire, I learned to become more diverse in a diverse workforce. The first thought exercise taught me to stop making stereotypes about groups. The pie chart, diversity questionnaire, first thoughts, and masculine and feminine speaking styles taught myself what I need change. My pie chart consists of seven different group affiliations that are somewhat important in my self-concept. My biggest group was education at 40%. I choose education to be the most import because it is key to have in life if your. The more education I have, the better job I can get. Also with a higher level of education I can open up more opportunities because when I continue to increase my education less and less people are as highly educated as me. I personally like to have many opportunities to choose from for jobs. Then next highest group affiliation on my pie chart was work experience at 30%. I feel that having work experience is necessary before entering a job that requires a college education. Internships are a great way to build up work experience before entering a job. I feel that just because you get a college education does not mean you know how to do the job you want to do. By getting an internship in the field you want to work in, helps you understand some of the process the......

Journal College 101

...Journal 2 1. One thing I enjoyed learning is how to play the guitar. I feel it is a good skill to have. Although learning how to play it was difficult at first, persistence and dedication led me to get better at the instrument. I’ve been playing for over a year now and I still continue to practice on a daily basis. One thing that I think separates me from someone who has never played an instrument is that I know how to play my chords and scales properly, which can make it easier to learn a new song. I think this skill is great because once one learns how to play, they will always know; it can never be taken away from them. I’ve always enjoyed playing the guitar, and I recommend anyone who likes music learns how to play an instrument. 2. I gathered the information from everywhere. Websites, TV, and relatives who play guitar. I asked them what chords and notes were and attempted to learn the rest on my own. Besides learning from those sources, I bought books and tried to learn from them. I practiced, and still practice every day in order to get better. When starting to learn, I played until my fingers were sore, now I play until I feel satisfied that I learned something. The feedback I use when playing guitar is how it sounds and how well it flows compared to when I previously played it. Although sometimes it is frustrating when it’s not going well, it is usually relaxing to play. The rewards are not much. I feel it is just something to do when you are bored. ...

...Group Theory Unit 8, Journal 2 – Managing Conflict See also the section on Conflict as a Mutual Problem, pages 372-385 Describe a situation from your life for each of the following 4 scenarios that demonstrates the difference between the following: 1. Issues versus Personalities One instance that I can recall pertaining to this scenario is while on active duty deployment to Spain I was given a task with zero specific direction on how to accomplish said task. Now to explain why this is important, the task could have been accomplish 3 different ways, the easy way which took less time and people to accomplish, the in between area which is easy but takes a little more time because you pay a little more attention to certain tasks, and the best way, which isn’t ideal because we didn’t have the number of people required, the amount of equipment needed or the extra materials needed. The work being done was necessary but repairing it vs destruction and construction of a new one was less costly and more logical. The chief was having a bad day so when I asked him he just screamed “Work with what you got!” So did the less costly method and repaired the structure. Chief decided it was the wrong way and when I asked him why he didn’t tell me that in the beginning he wrote me up for insubordination. Chiefs personality interfered with his ability to give me accurate operational orders causing me to do the task the proper way but not exactly how he wanted. 2. Interests......

In the case of prosocial lies, parents and caregivers teach children the value of telling “white lies” to avoid hurting the feelings of others even as they are teaching children to be truthful. How does this practice influence the moral development of young children? Moral development occurs when the child must evaluate the different beliefs and values and choose which set of rules he or she will follow. Sometimes parents may try to present their child with the “correct” choice rather than having the child learn the consequences of his or her own choices, and this may impact the child’s ability to make decisions when the parent is not around to provide guidance. In contrast, other parents may let their children make their own decisions but then remove negative consequences rather than following through with punishments. Thus, this demonstrates how children are presented with opportunities to resolve moral conflicts and learn appropriate moral responses through experiences in their mesosystems. Are the values that are being passed on to children by In the textbook, you read about prosocial lies and antisocial lies.
