Gus Lee

...hostile living conditions in an unusual city were all things Gus Lee faced upon arriving to the complex city of San Francisco. Understandingly, Lee felt very small in this place and lacked the confidence necessary to live in such a metropolitan environment. Lee often felt inferior to those around him and refused to fight other boys in the neighborhood, for he believed he did not have the essential skills or strength. Fortunately, Lee later became a very successful writer and ethicist because of his life experiences as a child living in the big city of opportunity. Although he faced many hardships, Gus Lee was supported by motivational people and gained enough strength to rise above these setbacks as well as to have a reason to write. As a young boy, Lee acquired little to no self-esteem when he compared himself to others and recognized his lack of superiority. He even stated that, “[b]y the time [he] was in the second grade and in the center of the frying pan, [he] was the only Asian, the only nonblack and the only certified no-question-about-it nonfighter in the district” (150). Because Lee refused to be the fighting type, he felt even more vulnerable in his environment as well as his community. He also felt as if he were the smallest fish in one of the biggest ponds he had come across of in his life lacking a connection to others, as he had a different culture and appearance than everyone he usually came across. Lee even goes as far to say that, “[his] courage was so......

Charles Lee

...Charles Lee: General in the American Revolutionary War By David E. LaClair Jr Charles Lee, a general in the American Revolutionary war, is a historic figure in American history. Serving under George Washington, Charles Lee participated in a number of battles. However, history says Charles Lee was treacherous to the cause, all the while that he was in command during that time; he was acting in bad faith toward the Americans. His influence in the army was, at all times, mischievous (General Charles Lee: Traitor of the American Revolution). To the British, Charles Lee was a traitor who turned on England to fight under George Washington. Due to Charles Lee’s treacherous actions against America, it would lead to his downfall in the following years. Born in England to an aristocratic family, Lee had already joined the army at the age of 12, and in the 1750's was sent to colonial America to fight in the French and Indian War (also known as the Seven Years War). It was here that he first served with the man who would be his superior officer later in life, General George Washington. Together they survived the bloody disaster of Major General Edward Braddock's defeat at the hands of the French Canadians and Indians in 1755 (American History Suite 101) at the Monongahela River at the forks with the Allegheny and Ohio Rivers near modern Pittsburgh (Fort Pitt) in the Battle of Monongahela (British Battles). Many students read Lee Strobel’s book “Case for Christ” and piled in to find seats to hear Lee Strobel speak. The crowd was very large and tense waiting for Lee Strobel to speak because of how excited people were to hear a man with such an influential story. Lee Strobel talks about his journey through life by starting off at the beginning as an atheist and how he looked upon the Bible and God. Lee Strobel as an atheist lived the life of selfishness and searched to please only himself because that was the only life he thought there was. Lee Strobel’s wife became a Christian. ...Individual Autonomy and Social Structure Dorothy Lee York University Throughout the article, “Individual Autonomy and Social Structure” Lee elaborates on different cultures and how they balance society’s social structure and order with the need of individual autonomy. Lee states, “to what extent can we allow a child to make his own decisions, to speak and act for himself?” (Lee 6). The key social problem that Lee addresses is the conflict between society and individual autonomy. Lee explains by comparing our western society to several aboriginal societies and suggests that we are limited to the things we can do, we are restricted to the views of society, what is right and what is wrong. Lee further explores different cultures and discusses many cultural practices and some, where this issue has been resolved. In this essay, I am going to discuss and analyze examples provided by Lee to show how other societies reached individual autonomy through the cultural practice of child-rearing In different society, child rearing takes its own form. In certain societies like a Sikh household, children are treated with respect since birth (Pg 7). In a Navaho tribe, a child and an adult are the same, there is no distinction, and this is a form of respect they show (Pg 12). Lee further discusses the Wintu Indian society and how individual autonomy is resolved through their own form of child bearing. They believe that guidance rather than command is most suitable because it does not......

...BRUCE LEE: ENTER THE SIX-PACK Enter The Six-Pack: Train Like Bruce Lee By Arnav Sarkar Last updated: Mar 30, 2015 40 years ago, young athletes found inspiration in Bruce Lee's peerless intensity and wiry strength. Not much has changed since. Get out the heavy bag and make Lee's training style work for you! "Absorb what is useful. Reject what is useless." These legendary words are often attributed to Bruce Lee, and while it's debatable whether they actually originated with him, there's no doubt that they strike at the core of his martial philosophy. His legendary and eclectic fighting style of Jeet Kune Do, "the way of the intercepting fist," focused on crafting his strikes around his opponent's incoming attack, at a moment when anything extraneous would just slow him down with tragic results. As a result, he was as unpredictable as he was entertaining. Openness and flexibility also defined how Lee approached his physical training. While trainers and his peers wasted their time with territorial squabbles and quests for one-size-fits-all training programs, Lee was receptive to a wide range of traditions. He took what he needed from martial arts, bodybuilding, and other styles of training. He was devoted to his barbell and kettlebells, but also loved his Nautilus-style Marcy Circuit Trainer. He practiced his kicks and punches daily with full intensity, but he also ran, cycled, and jumped rope. Images courtesy of Bruce Lee Enterprises, LLC. All Rights Reserved. BRUCE LEE® is......

...Lee College Financial Statements ACC 380: Accounting for Not-For-Profit Organizations June 4, 2012 Lee College Financial Statements Why do Not-For-Profit organizations need financial statements? The accounting system for nonprofits is designed to capture the economic activities of the firm and its financial position. The financial statements are constructed based on the “Accounting Equation” in which: Assets = Liabilities + Net Assets (Keating, 2008). This equation is very helpful, but not show us how or why net assets change over time. This is the purpose of the financial statements. For Lee College, a private not-for-profit, the financial statements required under the FASB Statement 117 are the Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Activities, and Statement of Cash Flows (Copley, 2011). The focus of this paper will be on the Statement of Activities and the acceptable alternative. The Statement of Activities’ purpose is to show revenues, expenses, gains, losses, and reclassifications and to show the changes in net assets by net asset class (unrestricted, temporarily restricted, or permanently restricted) (Copley, 2011). FASB Statement 117, as stated earlier, requires the Statement of Activities as part of the three required financial statements for a private, not-for-profit college.
