Economics Essay Guidelines

...Economics essay: short guidelines BBA 2012-2013, D. Besson Topics: The topic of the Economics essay is to be chosen by taking in consideration your centres of interest and also your professional or next year(s) studying project. A priori, there are no restrictions in the kind of the subject. Any subject is acceptable, if not too broad (that would be impossible to treat in the limited scope of an essay) neither too specific (for the bibliographical references could be too difficult to find). Of course, it must be a topic in Economics, either micro (study of one or several firms in an industry in (set of) countries, for example) or macro (the Economic development of a market, of an industry, or an economic area). Some social phenomenons can be analyzed from an economic point of view (life styles and consumption; demography and labor market; for examples). Your subject can be linked with your dissertation topic (or, at today, the domain you consider you could cover in your dissertation), but of course it’s not an obligation. I remind you that you must submit me your topic for my agreement. Indicative length: It’s not easy to give a precise indication, as it depends of the subject. Some subjects need more long descriptions, and some other ones, more synthetic and/or more theoretical, require less length. As an indication, I can say that under 10 pages (around 3500 words) it’s impossible to make a good essay. More than 25 pages (9000 words) would certainly be too long for the......

...General Format MLA style specifies guidelines for formatting manuscripts and using the English language in writing. MLA style also provides writers with a system for referencing their sources through parenthetical citation in their essays and Works Cited pages. Writers who properly use MLA also build their credibility by demonstrating accountability to their source material. Most importantly, the use of MLA style can protect writers from accusations of plagiarism, which is the purposeful or accidental uncredited use of source material by other writers. If you are asked to use MLA format, be sure to consult the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (7th edition). Publishing scholars and graduate students should also consult the MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing (3rd edition). The MLA Handbook is available in most writing centers and reference libraries; it is also widely available in bookstores, libraries, and at the MLA web site. See the Additional Resources section of this handout for a list of helpful books and sites about using MLA style. Guidelines for Essay Writing on Computer Games

...Access to computers has increased significantly over recent decades, and the number of children playing games on computers has increased too. This essay will consider the positive and negative impacts of this and discuss ways to mitigate against the potential negative effects. With regards to the positive effects, playing computers games can develop children’s cognitive skills. Many popular games require abstract and high level thinking skills in order to win, skills that may not be taught at school. For example, children need to follow instructions, solve complex problems and use logic in many of the games that are currently popular. Such experience will be beneficial to a child’s progression into an adult. However, concerns have been raised about the prolific use of computer games by children, much of this related to the violence they contain. The problem is that in many of the games children are rewarded for being more violent, and this violence is repeated again and again. For instance, many games involve children helping their character to kill, kick, stab and shoot. This may lead to increased aggressive feelings, thoughts, and behaviours. In order to minimize these negative impacts, parents need to take certain steps. Firstly, some video games are rated according their content, so parents must check this and ensure their children are not allowed to have access to games that are unsuitable. Parents can also set limits on the length of time games are played.......

This essay will discuss the validity of the claim that media violence causes aggressive behavior on the juvenile audience. The paper will firstly show the correlation studies and experimental studies about media violence and its influence on children. It will then move to other reasons which causes the aggressive behavior. Finally, this essay will also examine the influence of aggressive video games on players. Children found a new environment of amusement after the television came on the scene. They were exposed to large number of new programs. Even if there was a potential peril to juveniles, people were not aware of what sorts of programs or what quantities of it were dangerous. At that time there was not enough proof that violence programs was the cause of aggression (Carter& Strickland, 1993). Thus, the researchers began to conduct various kinds of research and studies to prove the correlation between the media violence and the......

Mas Privatisation

...Business Assignment: Argumentative/ Persuasive Essay Weightage: 15% Title of essay: On 8 August 2014, Khazanah National announced plans to privatise Malaysia Airlines (MAS) in an attempt to revive the national carrier as it was struggling financially. Without doubt, the twin aviation disasters, MH370 and MH17, have also further contributed negatively towards MAS financials. The former prime minister of Malaysia, Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that the national flag carrier should be privatised as it is running at a loss. The Malaysia Airlines System Employees Union (Maseu), on the other hand, strongly stated that they will only support the privatisation of MAS if there is to be a new management team. In the past 12 years, MAS has undertaken about half-a-dozen restructuring exercises. Considering its current situation, the idea to privatise is seen as a necessity. In your opinion, can MAS turn itself around if it is now to be privatised? Why or why not? Justify your stand and support your arguments with reasons and examples. You should write between 600 and 650 words. Instructor: Mrs Anuratha Murugagoo On 8 August 2014, Khazanah Nasional Berhad (“Khazanah”) proposed an official petition to the Board of Directors of Malaysian Airline System Berhad (“MAS”) to handle a particular capital cutback and refund apply (“Proposed SCR”) of MAS’ ordinary shares. It shows the strategies of Khazanah National to privatise Malaysia Airlines (MAS) in an effort to recover the federal......

...GUIDELINES FOR PREPARING PROJECTED FINANCIAL STATEMENTS Before entering into the nitty-gritty of the precautions to be taken by the professionals, first of all, I would like to throw some lights on the definitions of the basics of the Projected Financial Statements: WHAT IS FINANCIAL FORECASTS AND PROJECTIONS? Financial forecasts and projections are two types of prospective financial statements that attempt to reflect a company’s expected financial position and expected results of operations. FINANCIAL FORECAST A financial forecast reflects, to the best of the company’s knowledge, the expected financial results of a future period. It is based on expected conditions and expected courses of action. It is to be noted that in almost all situations, the party responsible for the prospective financial statements is the management of the company. FINANCIAL PROJECTIONS A financial projection is different than a forecast in that it is based on hypothetical assumptions. A projection reflects the financial position and results of operations based on a “What if” type of scenario. It is to be noted that only a financial forecast is appropriate for general use. Now, I would like to touch upon those areas, which needs to be taken care of and needs some fine-tuning before accepting any assignment of preparing/compiling of projected financial statements. PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN BY THE PROFESSIONALS BEFORE COMPILING PROJECTED FINANCIAL STATEMENTS 1. Make sure that...
