Position Statements

...POSITION STATEMENT: (Unique Selling Proposition) Every TV ad is based on a position statement Don’t confuse this word ‘position’ with form or shape of a product, rather position statement would tell producer what he wants to achieve in the market and to pass on or communicate the core value of the brand Also it is a statement that is designed for customers to think like that. We associate Rolex with GREATNESS because in every ad they tell us that and hence we link greatness to Rolex. A positioning statement is not the same as a slogan or tag line though sometimes your slogan is based on position statement. A good positioning statement generally has 4 elements: The target market The need of that target market The name of your product The statement telling how your product satisfies the need and is different from the competitors. Example: For (1) families concerned about (2) safety, (3)Volvo builds a vehicle with (4) state-of-the-art safety features that give you peace of mind when driving." So now we clearly know that first of all we all need to think of a position statement for the product. We can achieve best results if we think of something that is not now associated with the company this time. THINK DIFFERENT here would lead to a good and different ad TECHNIQUES TO MAKE AN AD: Ad based on humor Animations – using animated characters Ads where actors don’t speak a word even and all is shown by the actions they do use of popular music Use of......

...ANWR Position Paper Jennifer Piper Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) is a 19 million acre area that lies in the northeast corner of Alaska. The Coastal Plain area, comprising 1.5 million acres on the northern edge of ANWR, is bordered on the north by the Beaufort Sea, on the east by the U.S. Canadian border, and on the west by the Canning River. The Coastal Plain of ANWR is being considered for oil and gas development since it potentially holds billions of barrels of recoverable oil and trillions of cubic feet of recoverable gas. Of the 1.5 million acres of the Coastal Plain, less than 2000 acres would be affected by development. However, because it is an important wildlife habitat, some are concerned that development would hurt the land, endanger wildlife, and not recover enough oil to make the effort worthwhile. ANWR is about the size of South Carolina, and the proposed development area in the Coastal Plain is about one-fifth the size of Washington, DC’s Dulles International Airport. Although ANWR could produce greater than a million barrels of oil per day, more than enough to replace U.S. imports from Iraq, we have to look at the potential social, economic and ecological benefits and consequences to exploring/drilling in ANWR. Environmentalists want to protect ANWR from any drilling because of its environmental and ecological value. They believe that there is too great a danger to the refuge, which is home too many species of birds and fish as well as both land......

Market Position Measures

...MARKET POSITION MEASURES - Slide 1 Market Share - Percent of Sales Talking Point -Percent of sales is one measure of market share. For example, if a small electronics firm sells $2 million in a market with a total of $100 million in sales, its market share is 2 percent. That is just one market. Market share can be difficult to calculate for those that don't know their competitors' sales figures, and that's where private market research firms such as Nielsen and The NPD Group come in. They keep track of market share figures for various industries. These companies usually monitor market shares on an annual basis. - Percent of Units Talking Point- Companies can calculate market share using sales units. For example, a small bottled-water distributor may sell 10,000 units per year out of the 100,000 sold in a local market area by all competitors combined. Therefore, its market share is 10 percent for that market. Unit market share may be more useful in some cases, as companies can better derive average product prices of competitors. They can use this information to better price their own products. Nevertheless, it is best to have access to both sales and unit market share figures. Talking Point: Market share is one of the primary indicators companies use to measure how well they are doing versus competitors. Market share is the percentage of business sales by all competitors combined in any given market. Pros - There are several key advantages to building market share.......

...Position Throughout this semester I have found myself jumping back and forth from Interpretive and objective so I have narrowed my position to somewhere closer to the interpretive side. I would start with the traditions that I feel really resonate with my position. The first one is the critical tradition. This is where my interpretive side comes in. I find myself questioning a lot of what media puts out there as important or just entertaining. For example, when there was Heavy coverage of the Casey Anthony trial a lot of people may have been misled into thinking that was what was important at the time, but in the greater scheme of things it really should not have plagued the news stations like it did. I realize that things like that are really distractions to keep people unengaged. The sad thing is that I have fallen victim to those distractions and I feel it is a struggle everyday to try to find a way to promote change or at least get other people realize what is distracting them. Now on the flipside there are a lot of people that are aware of the foolishness that is out there but are content with the status quo. I feel that is something that will always be issue, but if feel through proper education that can be reduced greatly. I also don’t follow blind empirical evidence because there is ways to manipulate testing to push a certain agenda. Now this is where my objective side starts to step in because although I wont follow quantitative evidence solely that doesn’t mean...

... POSITION DESCRIPTION QUESTIONNAIRE GUIDANCE August 2008 General Information and Purpose The Position Description Questionnaire (PDQ) is the state’s official job description and legal document that describes the duties and responsibilities of an individual position or job in the state personnel system, which are also the expectations of the job. In structured questionnaire format, the PDQ is the primary data collection instrument designed to gather information about the specific assignment and characteristics of a single position relative to the job evaluation system’s four factors: Decision Making, Complexity, Purpose of Contact, and Line/Staff Authority. Because the PDQ is the official record of the position’s assignment, it is the basis of job evaluation decisions and documents information used for purposes of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), employee selection, performance management and development, and workforce and staffing planning. Every position in the state personnel system must have an official PDQ on file. The PDQ is evaluated to determine the proper class for new, vacant, and filled positions. Although employees and supervisors are encouraged to work collaboratively to complete the PDQ, the supervisor and appointing authority are ultimately accountable for establishing the work assignment, as well as the completeness and accuracy of information within the......

...POSITION PAPER ON THE AIRPORTS SECTOR IN INDIA May 2009 Department of Economic Affairs Ministry of Finance Government of India AIRPORTS SECTOR EXISTING SCENARIO 1. The civil aviation traffic has seen an unprecedented traffic in the past few years on account of booming Indian economy, growing tourism industry, entry of low cost carriers in the private sector, liberalization of international bi-lateral agreements and liberalization of civil aviation policy. In future also the civil aviation traffic is expected to grow at the same pace despite current slowdown due to global recession. But airport infrastructure has not kept pace with the growth of the civil aviation traffic. This has resulted in congestion and inefficient services in major airports, limited landing slots, inadequate parking bays and congestion during peak hours for airlines. Development of quality infrastructure will have an impact on international competitiveness and economic growth. This requires faster development of civil aviation infrastructure on public private partnership mode. In tune with the requirement many initiatives have already been started in the 10th five year plan and they are expected to continue in the 11th plan also. 2. Brand Position

...positioning and innovation, which takes a brand to its zenith. After having its share of booms and slumps, Samsung came up with new ideas to be more customer-focused and creative in order to establish a strong brand image in the global market. Rather than making normal or usual handset devices, they started to produce smartphones to catch up with their competitors. Their main strategy was to provide the best quality products in order to meet their customers’ expectation. They have been constantly redesigning and introducing new series of products, e.g. – Galaxy Series. Currently they are working on designing the lightest and slimmest phone of the world, along with an amazing powerful performance to gain an edge over their competitors. Samsung doesn’t have any particular tagline/slogan for the company as a whole; they prefer to use unique taglines for each and every product. They tend to promote and position their mobile phones/note/tab at all the 3 different levels of positioning. Two promo links have been provided below of their Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S6, which specifies all the product attributes, values and benefits that customers might look out for, before they choose to buy it. ...Position Paper 1 Technological advancement during the Industrial Revolution ultimately laid the foundations that enabled the creation of a workplace that promoted efficiency, discipline, and coordination. This workplace has become a symbol for the shift from home industries to the modern industrial firm known as a factory. Technological advancement can be classified into two categories: macro-inventions and micro-inventions. Macro-inventions are technological advancements of sufficient importance that dramatically change the production process. Micro-inventions are minute alterations to preexisting forms of capital that serve to enhance or improve its performance. There is a great debate, specifically concerning the British Industrial Revolution, over whether successful technological change is based on breakthrough inventions or small, incremental improvements to known techniques. With changes in technology and the workforce came the centralization of employees. Centralizing the workforce dramatically changed the basic functions of a family and the household. Families adopted a new specialized lifestyle in which they had to adhere to the schedule of the factory. The in industrial revolution can be defined through a three pronged sequence of change: a small sector economy that underwent drastic technological change, as a consequence this sector grew exponentially, and this growing and advancing economy spread to surrounding sectors allowing for trade to occur. Technological......

...“post-mortem” approach, if you will, companies can now utilize data for analysis, forecasting, optimization, revising of business processes, more efficient decision-making, and ultimately (and conversely most important) greater customer satisfaction. Business analytics has moved from being a process of analyzing customer behavior after the fact to being a tool that can help predict customer behavior in the future. This is an invaluable tool in the business decision-making arsenal. Where once companies found themselves in a reactionary position as for example point-of-sale terminals linking to your grocery store card or an email address and providing you coupons to that store or a particular items based on your previous purchasing profile, the very real ability to anticipate customer actions and purchasing habits is shifting to putting businesses in an advantageous position of anticipation and action – sometimes in near real time situations. This positions a company to examine and alter their inventory and supply chains to better suit customer needs better than ever before. Whereas in the past when analysis was reactionary, supplies and inventory may have already been purchased or ordered and careful analysis would have shown that those inventories and supplies were nearly superfluous and therefore contributing to waste and not contributing to margin. The proper and careful analysis of appropriate data of a company’s supply chain, be it product or service, tangible or......
