...Although there are many other online IQ tests available today, they are not as accurate as the official Wechsler and Stanford-Binet tests. Ninety-five percent of people have an IQ between seventy and one hundred thirty. A lot of people are either just above one hundred thirty or just below seventy. Only five percent of the population have either extremely high IQs, above one hundred forty, or extremely low IQs, below seventy. If you have an IQ of one hundred forty or above, you are considered a “genius” and are eligible to join Mensa, the largest and the oldest IQ society in the world. Mensa was founded in England in 1946 as a non-political society independent of all racial and religious influences. Its original goals are threefold: to identify and encourage human intelligence, promote research of intelligence and provide networking opportunities for its members. The word “mensa” means “table” in Latin. The word was chosen because Mensa is a round-table society where age, race, religion and background are of no regard. A question commonly asked by people is “Can your IQ change over time?” Many people argue that it does not, but studies show that your IQ does, in fact, change as you get older. An article in the journal, Nature, by psychologist, Price and her colleagues is a good example. Her study started with thirty-three adolescents that were twelve to sixteen years old. Price and her team gave all of them an IQ test, tracked them for four years,......

...of your reasoning and problem-solving abilities * Your score reflects how well you did on a series of tests compared with others your age * Your IQ can change over time, and scores have improved between generations * Having a high IQ is not a guarantee of success, experts say (CNN) -- Three-year-old Alexis Martin reads at a fifth-grade level. She taught herself fluent Spanish using her parents' iPad. "From 12 to 18 months old, we'd be driving around in the car, and she would recite her bedtime story from the night before," her dad, Ian, told CNN affiliate KNXV. "She didn't just recite them; she recited them exactly." Alexis is the youngest member of Arizona's Mensa chapter. American Mensa (PDF) is an organization for people with IQs in the top 2%. The average IQ is 100. Martin's tops 160. Mensa has more than 55,000 members nationally. You'd probably recognize some of the more famous ones: Nolan Gould, who plays Luke on ABC's "Modern Family"; Richard Bolles, the author of "What Color is Your Parachute?"; the Blue Power Ranger (OK, he's a fictional member). But what does an IQ score really tell us about a person? Will Alexis be a genius for life? And if you still can't speak Spanish at age 50, should you just give up? What your IQ score means An Intelligence Quotient, or IQ, is a measure of what psychologists call our "fluid and crystallized intelligence." Put simply, an IQ test measures your reasoning and problem-solving abilities. There are different kinds......

...Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences introduced the idea that traditional types of intelligence, such as IQ, fail to fully explain cognitive ability. He introduced the idea of multiple intelligences which included both interpersonal intelligence (the capacity to understand the intentions, motivations and desires of other people) and intrapersonal intelligence (the capacity to understand oneself, to appreciate one's feelings, fears and motivations. The first use of the term "emotional intelligence" is usually attributed to Wayne Payne's doctoralthesis, A Study of Emotion: Developing Emotional Intelligence from 1985. The first published use of 'EQ' (Emotional Quotient) seems to be by Keith Beasley in 1987 in an article in the British Mensa magazine. However, prior to this, the term "emotional intelligence" had appeared in Beldoch (1964),] Leuner (1966) Stanley Greenspan (1989) also put forward an EI model, followed by Peter Salovey and John Mayer (1989). The distinction between trait emotional intelligence and ability emotional intelligence was introduced in 2000. However, the term became widely-known with the publication of Goleman's Emotional Intelligence - Why it can matter more than IQ(1995). It is to this book's best-selling status that the term can attribute its popularity Goleman has followed up with several further popular publications of a similar theme that reinforce use of the term Goleman's publications are self helf books that are non-academic in......

...Cindy Jackson Cindy Jackson holds the world record for most cosmetic procedures; she has been “nipped, tucked, and sliced open” over 50 times since her first procedure in 1988 (Rachel, 2012). A quote by The Times asserting, “No one knows more about cosmetic enhancement and anti-ageing than Cindy Jackson. She is living proof of her unique expertise” headlines her self-titled website. While Jackson’s website flaunts her many cosmetic successes, it also lists her as a member of Mensa, The High IQ Society since 1977. Additionally, visitors to the site learn that Jackson, who received her first Barbie Doll at the age of six, led a sheltered life and felt like a misfit. The Barbie Doll supported her fantasies of an alternative destiny until she became a teenager, at which time her interests turned to art and photography; her perception of visual presentation began. Social-self, Self-concept, Self-esteem, and Self-presentation The sense of identity, sense of self, is important to human psychology and sociology. It provides the sense of having free will and is the foundation of social control. The Myers text asserts that at the center of one’s world is his or her sense of self. It further states that, “the most important aspect of yourself is your self” (Myers, 2010). The beliefs by which one defines his or herself are self-schemas; the specific beliefs that define oneself. Moreover, one’s sense of self determines who he or she might become – the possible......

...population from its peak. * Culture: The culture of ancient Rome existed throughout the almost 1200-year history of the civilization of Ancient Rome. The Romans thought of themselves as highly religious, and attributed their success as a world power to their collective piety (pietas) in maintaining good relations with the gods. Since the beginning of the Republic until 200 BC, ancient Romans had very simple food habits. Simple food was generally consumed at around 11 o’clock, and consisted of bread, salad, olives, cheese, fruits, nuts, and cold meat left over from the dinner the night before. Breakfast was called ientaculum, lunch was prandium, and dinner was called cena. Appetizers were called gustatio, and dessert was called secunda mensa (or second table). Usually, a nap or rest followed this. The family ate together, sitting on stools around a table. Later on, a separate dining room with dining couches was designed, called a triclinium. Fingers were used to take foods, which were prepared beforehand and brought to the diners to be handled with fingers. Spoons were used for soups. As for language, Latin and Greek were the dominant languages of the Roman Empire, but other languages were important regionally. The language of the ancient Romans was Latin, which served as the "language of power” Latin was pervasive in the Roman Empire as the language of the law courts in the West, and of the military everywhere. * Government: For more than 200 years, Kings have......
