Delhi Metro

...transport in the capital, Delhi Metro is not a new or even recent idea for Indians. In fact, the idea was brought into consideration about some fifty years back, but the bureaucratic red-Taoism made it to take such a long period to come into reality. However, on December 26, 2002, the people of Delhi got the first ride in this much-awaited dream train. Delhi Metro’s first phase has been completed. And, with this, the DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) can claim to provide transport to two million passengers every day with a train at every third minute. In its first phase, the Delhi Metro is operational between Sahara and Ties Hazard stations with four other stations in between. The Metro is on, and the people are happy with the service it is rendering. After all, now they have an alternate to the suffocating packed blue line buses and the inadequate service of the DTC – run CNG buses. With the Metro option, the passengers are not only saved from the inconvenience of the road transport, but they also experience a world class service at very affordable fares. It is really pleasing to note that a passenger can reach from Ties Hazard to Sahara in just fourteen minutes by spending as much money as he would spend through a bus. Thus, while it saves the passengers from the trouble of road transport and provides a much reliable service to reach places in time, it does not bother the commuter of any extra expenditure. Another outstanding feature the metro is that it is......

Metro Rail

...This line was built after an approximately 20-year battle,[2] starting in 1983 when voters rejected a rail plan by referendum.[3] Voter referendum in 1988 approved a 20 mile light rail plan;[4] however, Bob Lanier was elected mayor in 1992 and stopped the plan.[3] In 1991, U.S. Rep. Tom Delay, removed $65 million in federal funding for the rail line.[3] Then, Houston drew up a rail plan with entirely local funding. In 2001, several groups sued to stop construction, claiming that the METRO organization was a "private business" and subject to Houston City Charter provisions regulating business use of its streets;[5] they obtained 2 temporary injunctions in January 2001, which were reversed by appeals court on March 9, 2001.[5] Ground was broken on this line on March 13, 2001.[6] The opening of METRORail on January 1, 2004, came 64 years after the previous streetcar system had been shut down.[7] The cost was $325 million [8] Houston was the largest city in the United States without a rail system after the 1990 opening of the Blue Line in Los Angeles. Tom Delay strongly opposed construction of the METRORAIL line and twice blocked federal funding for the system in the United States House of Representatives.[9] Thus the Metrorail was built without any federal funding until November 2011 when a $900 million grant was approved for expansions.[10] In spite of the opposition of some groups to the Metrorail, surveys conducted by Stephen Klineberg and Rice University have shown......

Calcutta's Metro

...Calcutta’s Metro The major problem facing Project Managers is providing a clear and concise vision of the project details, who’s responsible for what and the initial budget. Without this the project has little or no chance to succeed. With a proper scope statement a project has the foundation for success. In the case of Calcutta’s Metro I believe the major problem was that the Project Manager (PM) didn’t effectively manage the project scope. A project scope according to Pinto is “everything about a project – work content as well as expected outcomes” . Since an effective project scope was not developed the project had multiple problems such as funding, construction plan, site ownership, pressure for stakeholders, and traffic flow just to name a few. The majority of the short term problems like traffic flow and pressure from stakeholders led to the long term problem of been over budget and time. Project Scope Management contains the following; conceptual development, scope statement, work authorization, scope reporting, control systems, and project closeout . Any one of these elements if properly managed and executed would have help with the success of the project. During the conceptual development the project team would have used brainstorming events that would have identified any problems to considered and plan for. With a scope statement the project team would have had a clean picture of what the project was, initial budget and responsibilities. The PM could......

Metro Bank

...Metro Bank Marsha Brown was the new manager of a suburban office of Metro Bank. The branch office was experiencing low morale and lower productivity than expected. One of the difficulties was that the office served as an informal training center for young managers. New hires who needed experience as loan officers or assistant branch managers were assigned here for training. When they reached a certain level of competence, they were promoted out of the branch office. This practice was demoralizing to the less mobile tellers and other assistants, who felt exploited and saw no personal reward in “training their boss.” After some checking with her boss and other people at corporate headquarters, Marsha concluded that it would be impossible to change this program. Her branch was one of those considered to be essential for executive development in Metro Bank. During her first few months on the job, Marsha got to know her employees quite well. She reviewed performance records and met with each employee in the branch to talk about the person’s career aspirations. She learned that many of her employees were quite capable and could do much more than they were presently doing. However, they had never seen themselves as “going anywhere” in the organization. Marsha searched for a unique vision for the branch office that would integrate the needs of her employees with the objectives of the executive development program, and in the process better serve the bank’s......

Evaluating Taipei Metro System

...Transport and its conveniences and inconveniences is a daily thought that doesn't escape most people's minds from the moment they are ready to leave their homes, to the moment they are ready to leave their offices, or schools. The MRT (Taipei Metro Rapid Transit System) has worked its way into being regarded as a convenient mode of transport. In this essay the MRT transit system's convenience will be assessed in terms of its schedule, comfort, and payment system. Firstly, the MRT's schedule is considered convenient due to its constant arrivals and departures from station to station. This allows users to have confidence in it as they are able to arrive at their destination on time. As long as the users set an approximation of the time required to reach somewhere, they are most likely to arrive punctually. Also, the availability of the MRT at late night hours is convenient, as it allows its users to spare more time on their daily recreations as they are able to have a transport system available until midnight. This also caters for the working population who work night shifts and are in need of such a service. Furthermore, the MRT has 70 stations, with a train departing approximately every three minutes at these various stations, all around Taipei City. This reflects that the MRT has established a large network, judging from the number of stations available. Secondly, the comfort is another dimension in which the MRT's convenience can be assessed, as it provides priority......
