Organizational behavior Within all organizations whether big or small it is essential to create a proper work environment for all of their employees. The key aspects to creating this type of environment are the ability to understand employee behavior, strong communication, ability to adapt, and strong ethics. For this paper I will be discussing the issues that I had with my previous employer. The issues described in this case are to do with management. When there is a communication breakdown between employees, a totalitarian leadership that does not consider the views and participation of employees and unprofessional handling of information, the organization is bound to fail. This could be due to a lack clear and defined channels of communication in the organization, inadequate training of managers in management science and are just bad leadership. Whenever there are such problems, the solutions could include the following as specified in the explanations below:
Communication
Firstly, communication by definition is the sharing of information between two or more individuals and /or groups to get at a particular understanding (Bauer, T., & Erdogan, B. 2010). This implies that the meaning of the information contained in the message to be must be easy to encode for it to qualify as effective communication. Good communication is an essential element of any organization’s success. Mangers should spend a great part of their time communicating for the management process to be effective. Managers have therefore to ensure that they are good communicators and train employees as well to be good communicators.
Solutions to poor communication in an organization Effective organizational communication, managers should employ communication skills that ensure that the message is properly understood and the…...

If the things are not going as they planed the manager should find the way how to make it better or how should work harder. 3. What is organizational behavior (OB)? Answer: Organizational behavior is a field of study that investigates the impact that individuals, groups, and structure have on behavior within organizations, for the purpose of applying such knowledge toward improving an organization’s effectiveness. To make it a general idea we can say that Organizational behavior is the field where we can learn about how to behave, how to talk, even how to effect to other co-workers in organizations. 4. Why is it important to complement intuition with systematic study? Answer: Consciously or unconsciously we are all student of behavior. As an example, we can predict about our friends that what they will do under different conditions. Based on our intuition we can success or fail through predicting about them. However, in organizations where we need to predict we cannot make the final decision just based on our intuition, because two people act very differently in the same situation. According to this, using systematic study can help us to predict more......

...ATTITUDES AND ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIORS Nancy Hoosier Rasmussen College Author Note This research is being submitted on October 6, 2012 for Nancy Hoosier’s B370 Organizational Behavioral Analysis Course. In this assignment we will be going over four main objectives. The first one being what are some challenges and opportunities for Organizational Behavior. The second point we will discuss will be what are the main components of attitudes and how consistent are they. The fourth will be defining the self-perception theory. Some of the different challenges and opportunities for Organizational Behavior are employees aging, corporate downsizing, temporary working employees, and global competition. Managing workforce diversity is a huge challenge now in this day and age. For managers OB offers insights to improve a manager’s people skills, and helps to see the value of workforce diversity. (Robbins & Judge, 2010) The three main components of attitude are Cognitive, Affective and Behavioral. These components are all very closely related. An example of the Cognitive Component would be my supervisor playing favorites. This would be very unfair. The component Affective example would be a feeling of disliking your supervisor. And Behavioral......

...MGMT 591: Leadership and Organizational Behavior Project Proposal Workforce Diversity and Performance [Type the author name] MGMT 591 Professor: Tyson Moore Ph.D. 7/21/13   OVERVIEW OF ORGANIZATION The organization that will be my topic of discussion for my project paper is Jons Marketplace. I would like to specify that I am not part of this organization; 98 percent of my life I was on my own, but I do have a relative working there as a manager. As a brief overview of the organization that I have chosen for my topic, I can say that this organization was founded in 1977 as a family-owned supermarket chain in southern California. Their approach is “Everyone knows that no two snowflakes are alike, so why should neighborhood markets be? (No trick question here: they shouldn’t.) Our sentiment exactly. We’ve created our stores to be as unique and special as our customers. That’s why we’ve adapted each JONS market – each store layout, each building design, each product offering – to the needs and preferences of its specific community. In each case we’ve worked hard to gather so many different types of general grocery items and international items under one roof, so you can spend less time searching for the foods you love – and more time savoring them.” Well, I like that. This approach is showing exactly some things about diversity in general and about their diversity workforce. And here it comes what we call work force diversity, according to their......

...| MGMT 591: Leadership & Organizational Behavior | Project Proposal | Charisma A. Watkins | charisma_watkins@yahoo.com | Professor: Joseph Neptune | March 15, 2015 | | Overview of Organization The organization that will be discussed in my final course project is Diamond Blade Warehouse. Diamond Blade Warehouse (DBW) is a privately owned wholesale distributor of diamond cutting tools in North America. Headquartered in Vernon Hills, IL, DBW has 3 subsidiary companies with facilities in 3 states and independent contractors in 15 other states. Like many organizations, DBW has experienced decreased earnings due to the harsh economic conditions and the recent recession. This has led to office closures, integration of departments, and employee layoffs. Employees who were not laid off and who didn’t quit have been subjected to mandatory overtime hours, decreased benefits, and loss of company sponsored appreciation rewards. Over the past ten years Diamond Blade Warehouse suffered a significant decrease in annual revenues but has survived and remained in business by offering new products to its customers and by investing in a successful marketing strategy. DBW also transitioned from keeping inventory to utilizing a drop shipping method to lower costs. While these methods have proven helpful to the survival of the organization, the hard work and dedication of each employee who remained with the organization through all of these difficult changes must......

...MGMT Assignment 1 1) Explain workforce diversity. What key managerial skills do you think is most important when dealing with workforce diversity? Please cite your work. Please give an example of successes in working with diversity from your research Answer: Workforce diversity refers to the similarities and differences among employees in terms of gender, race, and ethnicity. It also includes disabilities, sexual orientation, and age. Among the three managerial skills (human skills, technical skills, and conceptual skills), I think human skills, which is the ability to understand, communicate with, motivate and support other people, would be important to manage a diverse workforce because of the different individual variables that the manager would be working with. When diversity in a workplace is effectively handled and developed, it can contribute to a success of the organization through a broader service range, increased adaptability to fluctuating markets and customer demands, variety of viewpoints, and more effective execution of plans and strategies. Citation: Greenberg, Josh. "Diversity in the Workplace: Benefits, Challenges and Solutions." Multicultural Advantage. AlphaMeasure, Inc, 2004. Organizational Behavior

...“A work organization can be defined as a socially designed unit, or collectivity, which engages in activities to accomplish a goal or set of objectives, has an identifiable boundary, and is linked to the external society. Work organizations are absolutely different from other social entities, which include families, clans, tribes, etc” (John Bratton, Work and organization Behavior, 2007, pg5). Organizational behavior encompasses the systematic study and careful application of knowledge about how people act within organizations. (Wikipedia, October 2010) We need to understand 3 key areas while studying OB (Organization Behavior); they are Personality, Motivation and Leadership. Personality is the total pattern of characteristic ways of thinking, feeling and behaving that constitute the individual’s distinctive method of relating to the environment (Kagan and Havemann, 1976) or the dynamic organization within the individual of those psychophysical systems that determine his characteristic behaviour and thought (Allport, 1964).Personality is explained by various theorists like Jung, Hans Eyesenck, Costa and McRae. Jung has introduced 4 concepts, which are sensation thinking, which includes Practical, down to earth, impersonal, interested in facts, wants order, precision, no ambiguity, values efficiency and clear lines of authority. The next concept is intuition thinking which includes Conceptual and inventive, sees future possibilities through analysis,......
