Lincoln's Attitude Towards Slavery and Emancipation

...of all the American railroads, all the American manufactures and all the American banking put together - slavery was the main event in the America. Lincoln was always opposed to the slavery, because it was the contradiction of his yearning for transformation and self improvement. In 1858 Abraham Lincoln decided to candidate for the United States Senate. At the beginning to the campaign, he made a speech in which he said that the United States was a House, but a House Divided by slavery; to survive it would have to be either all free or all slaves. When he candidate for the presidency of the United States, more than anything else I think he won because for those people who were opposed to slavery he was the only choice. From my point of view Abraham Lincoln was completely opposed to slavery because, from historical point of view at that time slavery was the answer at to the disputes between free states and slave states. After the Civil War, the North was developing through commerce and its new industrial capacities, meanwhile the South was flourishing through the cost of labor – manual labor and the use of slaves. 2. THE ISSUE OF SLAVERY IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA The issue of slavery represented one of the most important factors which shaped the history of the US and especially the way in which it came to develop. It was seen for many decades as a subject for social upheaval, political debate, and most importantly a matter of......

Attitude Towards Obesity in Canada

...worldwide for many years, even more so in the last four decades as obesity is now occurring in earlier stages of life (Gahagen, 2004). The attitude of children towards healthy behaviours affects them both immediately and in the future. By emphasizing the importance of physical activity via a positive role model such as Cam Newton, the NFL is directing a message to young children that physical activity and exercise are necessary in order to live a high quality life and one day ultimately fulfill their dreams. This commercial appears to be directed at pre-school and elementary school children. By targeting children of the pre-school and elementary ages, the NFL attempts to establish healthy behaviours in their younger audience whose behaviours can be modified the easiest. If a child learns to value physical activity and recognize the benefits at a young age, they are more likely to continue to be active and ultimately benefit their overall wellness in the years to come. Attitudes Towards Woman Roles

...ATTITUDES TOWARDS WOMEN=S ROLES – MONFRIES & SCEVAK 1 Australian Journal of Educational & Developmental Psychology. Vol 1, 2001, pp 1-9 Developmental differences in attitudes towards women=s roles in = Australian Society: Critical periods for Afeminist@ socialisation. @ Melissa M. Monfries & Jill. J. Scevak Faculty of Education, University of Newcastle, NSW, Australia ABSTRACT Gender role attitudes of adolescent girls have not been widely studied, nor have the mechanisms by which attitudes towards women’s roles develop. The present study focussed on adolescent girls’ gender role attitudes. Specifically it focussed on developmental differences in gender role attitudes of adolescent girls (n=642). The results indicated that Year 9 girls had significantly more positive attitudes towards feminism than Year 11 girls. These findings have important implications for girls’ career development. Results suggest that there is a critical period between Years 9 and 11 which accounts for girls’ increased conservatism towards feminism. The integral involvement of socialisation processes is necessarily implicated in this critical period. INTRODUCTION Group identification has been strongly associated with an individual's level of group consciousness (Henderson-King & Stewart, 1994). Tajfel (1978; 1982) specified that the two important components of group identification were the awareness of one's group membership and the evaluative stance towards one's membership in that......

Attitudes Toward Shopping

...Attitudes Toward Shopping Considerable research has been done on people's attitudes toward shopping. Such attitudes have a big impact on the ways in which people act in a retail setting. Retailers must strive to turn around some negative perceptions that now exist. Let us highlight some research findings. Shopping Enjoyment: In general, people do not enjoy shopping as much as in the past. So, what does foster a pleasurable shopping experience--a challenge that retailers must address? Many shoppers enjoy bargain hunting ("I get a thrill out of finding a real bargain"), recreational browsing ("window shopping"), being pampered by salespeople (difficult for retailers to accomplish in this era of self-service and cost cutting), and the opportunity to get out of the house or office. Attitudes Toward Shopping Time: Retail shopping is often viewed as a chore: "Consumers now attempt to limit the time they spend shopping. Time-pressed by family and work responsibilities, they spend fewer hours cruising the mall in search of the perfect item, and look to get what they need as quickly as possible. This trend has been dubbed 'precision shopping.' The upside of precision shopping is that consumers spend more money each time they visit a store." Shifting Feelings About Retailing: There has been a major change in attitudes toward spending, value, and shopping with established retailers: "The same shopper who buys commodity goods at a BJ's Wholesale Club Inc. may also buy expensive......

America’s Attitude Toward Sexuality

...AMERICA’S ATTITUDE TOWARD SEXUALITY   Rebecca  Kelly   Independent  Study   October  21,  2014     “Great ambition is the passion of a great character. Those endowed with it may perform very good or very bad acts. All depends on the principles which direct them.” -Napoleon Bonaparte “Playin' a fool's game, hopin' to win; And tellin' those sweet lies and losin' again; I was lookin' for love in all the wrong places; Lookin' for love in too many faces”. –Johnny Lee, 1980 Every night many Americans turn off their lights and lock their doors to prevent unwanted intruders from inviting themselves into their relatively peaceful homes. But what do they do next? Studies from the National Sleep Foundation suggest that 95% of families use some form of electronic media1 before getting a few hours of restless slumber. What they do not generally take into consideration, however, is that the shows and movies that are being watched are completely counter-productive to the doors that have just been locked and have consequently created a false sense of security. Certainly, one would not voluntarily invite an audacious woman who had just shown up on their doorstep into their home with barely any clothing on any more than they would a man with a ski mask and machete. Yet some people willingly subject themselves to this sort of viewing on a consistent basis. Beyond that, there are many children and adolescents left alone to their own devices with......

My Attitude Towards Writing

...Title: My Attitude Towards Writing By: Richard Bill Magee Date: 03/ 31/2010 My attitude towards writing is both positive and negative. I enjoy writing for many positive reasons. One reason is being able to effectively communicate with disabled people. Werther someone is death or blind using braille writing is a way we all can communicate with each other. Another positive reason is using free writing which is a good way to relax your mind. Writing gives you a outlet on paper when you don't have someone to speak with. Writing essays can be used to learn more about ones self. When you apply to a university or company you get a chance to write and show your abilities and what you can contribute to. Writing your answers essay form will let you state your case more fully than other sections of an application. It can provide the evaluator with better insight about you and how you differ from other applicants. What I like most about writing is that it is another good way to communicate. Negatively speaking on writing I have a hard time writing essays. I try to hard to remember what I have read about a topic. My essays usually end up sounding cliché from what I have read. I have a hard time putting what I have read into my own words. It's my good idea to read my essay's out loud when I'm done with it. I try to pick up some pattern or neat idea that i hadn't noticed hoping to change my cliché words around. Other times if I don't like the topic I end up losing focus and going......

My Attitude to Word Writing

...When it comes to writing, my attitude is instinctual negative. I never feel confident when I am faced with a variety of writing task in and outside of class. Since middle school I realized, that writing, no matter in what language, is one of my weakest subjects in school. Especially academic writing represents always a challenge for me. It is not only time consuming, but also a lot of work. For example, when writing about topics I am not familiar with, I have to do research, that takes a lot of time and energy. Since there are many rules to follow, I as well must worry about how to use words and sentences wisely, written in certain tenses and structures. Furthermore, my resistance toward writing is also influenced by various types of fear. For example, the feeling of fear, not to meet my and the professor's expectation inhibits my mind and unable me to clearly express myself by using words; leaving the paper blank. Moreover, I am getting nervous and anxious, when I need to write essays under time pressure due to deadlines. The pressure is overwhelming. I definite enjoy reading more than academic writing. Reading allows me to be creative; stimulate my imagination/able to picture images in my mind, without any pressure. Nevertheless, fact is that I lack of creativity when it comes to academic writing with all its boundaries and limitations. Even though, I know that I don't have much confidence in my writing skills just yet, I believe the more writing I do; the more comfortable......

Attitudes Toward Green Marketing

... Attitudes Towards Green Marketing Joslyn Roth Olha Shchadylo May 20, 2015 Introduction Lately, society has become more aware about the worsening environment and it has become a persistent public concern. The term green marketing came across in the late 1970s when the American Marketing Association held the first workshop on "Ecological Marketing” in 1975. Green marketing emerged as “marketing of products that are assumed to be environmentally safe". Thus green marketing incorporates a broad range of activities, including product modification, changes to the production process, sustainable packaging, as well as modifying advertising. As broad as green marketing is, it's very important to understand its benefits and challenges. The increased importance of green marketing is very simple and relies on the basic definition of economics. Economics is a study of how people use limited resources to satisfy their unlimited wants and needs. Unfortunately we do have limited resources, thus we need to find alternative ways in order to satisfy our needs and save the environment. Ultimately, green marketing looks at how marketing activities utilizes this limited resources, while satisfying consumer wants, both individuals and industry, as well as achieving selling objectives. These environmental concerns have gotten businesses attention and to show support, companies started to modify their products for preservation of the environment. Businesses have been quick to accept concepts......

Hospice and Attitudes Toward Death

...Hospice and Attitudes toward Death Unitie Mance Soc 304: Social Gerontology Kristin Bachman February 27, 2012 A dying man needs to die, as a sleepy man needs to sleep, and there comes a time when it is wrong, as well as useless, to resist. Stewart Alsop Death, dying and bereavement finds a way of impacting everyday living. Images of real or fictional death are often while watching television or movies. Death can impact people on a personal and a cultural level. This essay will entail how cultural attitudes toward dying, death, and bereavement have changed. While examining hospice, the care obtained, and its role in this shift. Cultural attitudes toward dying, death, and bereavement have changed. There are enormous variations across societies and over time in attitudes toward death. Some societies engage in death avoidance while others celebrate the communion between the living and the dead. In the United States there has been an immense change in the process of dying from past centuries to the present. “This change is partly due to a shift in the average age of death and the association of dying with old age” (Aubrey, 2007). It is also caused by a change in the causes of death. At one time most people died from critical illnesses that struck quickly. Now people are more likely to die from a chronic illness that leads to a slow death. The setting for death has also changed. Most deaths in the past occurred in the home. Now death typically takes place in a medical......

Attitudes Towards Ethnicity

...AIM: The aim of my research is to find out the attitudes of the young/old male and female to other ethnic groups. Ethnicity is very valuable idea which refers to the common culture of a social group, such as language, religion, styles of dress, food, shared history and experiences. However, an ethnic group is a group of people who share a common culture, for example the Irish, the Poles, Asians and African-Caribbeans etc. I hope to find out the following: • The ethnic group which attract most prejudice? • Young or older people have more/less prejudice? METHOD: To test my hypothesis, I will use Quantitative data method which refers to anything that can be expressed in a statistical or number form or can be measured i.e age, income, qualifications and is usually presented in form of graphs, pie charts, bar charts etc. The advantage of quantitative data, is that data is easy collect and easy to count and visualize. Since the data collected will be in number form I hope achieve its reliability which is concerned with replication. A survey involves the sociologist in systematically gathering information about a group of people and is done using questionnaires or interviews and the first step is to select a group of people to be studied and this group is called survey population. Considering time limits in my research, I will use a sample which simply means a small group drawn from a survey population to be studied. To generalize my survey to the whole......
