I plan on someday owning my own business, I would like to have a dessert shop, but I also have an interest in opening a tattoo shop with my brother. When I do open up one of these, or both perhaps, businesses I will take great efforts and do much research to develop a fair and safe list of ethical rules that I will make sure everyone that works for me, including myself, will follow. One of these rules would be to make sure that my employees are treated fairly and that they are given the opportunity to advance. I think that this is an important ethical rule to follow because the production of your business rests in the hands of your employees. They are the ones responsible for making and distributing your products, and in order for them to be motivated to do a good job at their tasks, they need to know that they will be rewarded for their hard work and contributions. Another ethical rule that I would put into play would be to make sure that the product that we are selling is safe and of good quality. This is another important rule that will also help the business. Without happy customers, you do not have a business. It is important to distribute something that will satisfy what they want, and something that will not be dangerous to their health. For instance, if I own a dessert restaurant, and my grocery supplier delivers me ingredients that are poor or contaminated, even if I absolutely needed these ingredients, I would not use them. I would lose more money if a customer became ill from my product and decided to sue me then I would if I did not have enough products for all my customers. It is also morally wrong to stand aside and endanger somebodies health for a few bucks. If, somehow a bad product did slip pass me and was sold, as soon as this issue was brought to my attention I would make sure that it was known that the items that were sold may not be safe.…...

Business Ethics

...A while back, I was asked by my immediate supervisor to go and shop the competition. I work for a private college who offers fast-track medical programs and is always searching to increase their numbers. Therefore, she asked I go and shop a competitor down the street that offers the same programs as we do. I found myself with an ethical dilemma because she told me not to identify myself and to pretend I want to get information for my son who will be graduating from high school. Even though I know, there are secret shoppers, for me it was an ethical dilemma because I can never lie. I come from a family that always has been ethical with values and morals. Facing this ethical dilemma raised many questions. Should I get the information my supervisor asked me by lying who I really was? I thought this action is breaking ethical laws. Is lying to the competition for information worth the risk the loss of trust I have earned and built with colleges. I also think about whether I am true to myself by lying. I finally went inside the college I was sent to shop them and see if their structure was different from ours. I value my honesty and I just introduced myself with my name and asked them questions about their structure and programs without lying. After I left, I felt good about myself. I may not have gathered most information if I would of introduced me by lying to them, but I still gained sufficient information to take back with me. Although I did no harm by gathering information,......

Personal ethics are matured over years and shaped by the environment and individuals around each person. My personal ethics guide my everyday behavior. My personal ethic’s system has grown and matured over the years. My personal ethic system has developed over the past 33 years mainly My personal ethics came from my parents growing up and was also influenced by friends through high school years. I believe that my character would include trustworthiness, responsible, loving, caring, respectful, empathy, faith, practical, and confident. My character would use those characteristics to guide my moral actions. Personal ethics are what determine an individual’s beliefs of right and wrong. I believe that an individual gains their personal ethics by the way that they are raised and the paths that they choose to follow. My personal ethical preferences began at home, from my parents, and family. My parents gave me the first look at what was right and what was wrong, according to what they had previously learned from their parents and their life experiences. They taught me to have respect for others; please and thank you were a must. Within my family religion headed me in a variety of directions. The second line of ethical beliefs comes from the people that I chose to affiliate myself with. Even if their intentions were good or bad, my decision to follow or defer was a direct......

...My View of Business Ethics Summary Paper of My ‘Ethical Position’ From My Experience, Knowledge And What I Have Gleaned From The Business Ethics Class.   ABSTRACT The ability to recognize and deal with complex business ethics issues has become a significant priority in twenty-first century companies. In recent years, a number of well publicized scandals resulted in public outrage about deception and fraud in business and a demand for improved business ethics and greater corporate responsibility. The publicity and debate surrounding highly visible legal and ethical lapses at a number of well known firms, including AIG, Countrywide Financial and Fannie Mae, highlight the need for businesses to integrate ethics and responsibility into all business decisions. The field of business ethics deals with questions about whether specific business practices are acceptable. For example, should a salesperson omit facts about a product’s poor safety records in sales presentation to a client? Should an accountant report inaccuracies that he or she discovered in an audit of a client, knowing the auditing company will probably be fired by the client for doing so? Should an automobile tire manufacturer intentionally conceal safety concerns to avoid a massive and costly tire recall? Regardless of their legality, others will certainly judge the actions taken in such situations as right or wrong, ethical or unethical. By this very nature, the field of business ethics is......

...Sarah Pitts and Rob Kamery’s The Role of Business Ethics: Incorporating Values and Ethics into Business Decisions Markitta Reed Columbia Southern University Introduction An article written by Sarah Pitts and Rob Kamery, published in the Journal of Legal, carefully inquires the special importance of business ethics, a responsibility that has been placed upon educational institutions within the past two decades. In addition Pitts and Kamery also describe what role the government has taken in influencing businesses to comply with making ethical decisions despite traditional business practices. Summary Pitts & Kamery (2003), in their article “The Role of Business Ethics: Incorporating Values and Ethics into Business Decisions,” directs its attention to why it is important for schools to teach students about values and ethics in business. From the results of their investigation out of the 500 largest corporations in the U.S. over half have behaved illegally (Pitts & Kamery, 2003). Before businesses were making headlines for their unethical behavior, business educational institutions were not convinced that business ethics should be a topic of discussion or part of the curriculum. “The invisible hand”, an Adam Smith’s theory contributed immensely to those views that were once held by business schools. However, the lack of involvement had proven to be of great consequence. The absence of educating students in business ethics begin to change following......

...Personal Views Ethics Essay Ricky Bateman BUS4801 October 19, 2014 Jason Lum Personal Views Ethics Essay Business ethics these days seem to remain a topic that has a high flexibility threshold, while these concepts are supposed to remain the backbone of any business that keeps the business honest and protects consumers, these days it would seem more about what benefits the business and little in regard to the overall satisfaction of the consumer. Taking the ethics test in our textbook, I would have to say that the results themselves are only as accurate as the person taking them. I mean if you are truthful, the results will say that you question everything and if something goes against your moral backing, you should voice it. As for my results, I do not see myself as an alpha employee, therefore I am willing to do what I was hired for and not result in the cut throat tactics that some rely upon for advancement in their career. I believe that I can be a team player through my hard work and dedication. These test questions seemed to be centered around someone that has the philosophy of he who dies with the most toys wins, while I admit that I do require money in order to feed my family and to ensure that bills are paid, I could not wrap my head around the notion that the more money you have at the cost of hurting someone else is what puts you at the top in a company’s eyes. I believe that treating someone equally is what makes a strong business, this does not......

My Code of Ethics

...Personal ethics at its core definition is the process of learning what is right and wrong, then doing what is right. It is anything but black and white and requires knowledge coming from teachers, parents, educators, pastors, community leaders and a host of quality sources. I have been influenced in the way that I respond to different situations since childhood. There are certain situations that are a part of my life that affect what I value and how I behave. Also, these parts of my life affected the particular ethical system that influences the way I make decisions and who I am as an individual. The origin of my character is based on the fact that I was raised by a single mother and was the oldest of two in my home. My mom had a unique way of making me feel special and setting time aside for just me and her. I believe this is where I learned to value time and having patience. It also influenced the way I value family and has affected many of the decisions I have made for my own. Another factor that helped shape my ethics is that my mother was not a very religious woman. She believed in a higher powerI maintain that personal ethics comprising of morals, principles, and values requires constant repetition that is taught and not magically acquired. I had the benefit of two fine parents who taught me how important honesty, accountability, responsibility, and integrity was. Yet, later in my career as a corporate executive I crossed the line and committed white collar offenses......

Intro to Ethics- My Ethics.

...Bethany Freitag 000291470 Intro to Ethics. My Moral Theory To begin to create my own moral or ethical theory, I really had to look into myself and figure out my morals. In addition I had to study and read the theories in our book to truly understand ethics and morals to create my own. My moral or ethical theory is a hybrid of sorts. It is based off of the theories we have studied this summer. It could also be something that stands on its own. When I think of ethical theories I always go back to Kant. His core ideas are slightly how I live my life. My morals stand on respect for life, like Kant, but a little broader. Another I could pull off of was the chapter we had on virtue ethics. I am a big believer in virtues and how they make life better, I tend to also call them my morals. Some of these morals or virtues, would be charity, compassion, accountability, faith and forgiveness. I also like to add in some feminism because I am a big proponent of equality in the sexes. I also live my life as though all persons or beings who have emotions, who can make decisions and such, are just as important as myself. The more I think about morals I keep going back to my number one, which is faith. When looking at faith I first think of religion, which is a very important thing to me. If something goes against what I believe in religion wise, nothing will shake that. When I also thing of faith though, I think of the virtue, having faith in humanity. We truly need to have faith...

Business Ethics

...1. Why do we study ethics? Sometimes I feel to ask the question, why we don’t study ethics? Simply put ethics is about differentiating between right and wrong. This is going beyond following the rules and laws, it is more about how do we make choices and decisions in our daily personal and professional life. Like my employer allows me to use company’s internet for personal use, but the question is, would it be ethical if I download big files or stream high quality video especially during peak hours and bog down the network? The trend of telecommuting in companies is on rise and different companies have different policies about working from home. But it is ethical for some to misuse this privilege? During a personal discussion with family or friends or business discussion with coworkers or vendors is it okay to talk more and listen less? There are lots of similar questions about our and others behavior that we experience and observe daily and that we should be ask ourselves. In my opinion studying ethics is more like soul searching and finding out are we following the same basics that we learned in our first 10-15 years of life from our parents and teachers on how to be a good and responsible citizen in this global village we live in. We all hear about how businesses are doing unethical practices but in reality it is the people who are demonstrating the unethical behavior not the business. It is important for all of us to study ethics so we can make good choices and......

My Reflection on Business Ethics

...My Reflection on Business Ethics Introduction: For the purpose of this paper, I will briefly talk about my experience in class this semester as a business student. The university has started a new academic period to complete a course. It was rough at first but as time when by, things became quiet and I became more involve in class. I had a great experience with class members who were totally engaged in the class and we had a lot of stimulating conversations. While the pace was so fast, a little hard to keep up with the time, I tried my best to stay on track. It has been a great experience with the new eight weeks process. It astonishes me how business ethics is an important part of the business world as ethic play a significant role in our daily lives. We as individuals need to know how to behave as we move around the world. There are so many people from different cultural backgrounds; we also have the responsibilities to learn about different cultures as we move around. Business ethic has prepared me as an individual to know these things. We come from varieties of backgrounds; ethics are viewed at different prospect in various parts of the world. I had a great Professor who has mastered the subject matter to the fullest, he clearly explain the course as we moved on to the end of the semester. My professor understands that student sometimes go through rough times and he willingly understood their problems. The professor is always physically present, so if......

...What is Business Ethics? Business ethics can be interpreted many ways but taken at the most fundamental level simply means knowing the difference between right and wrong and doing what is right. When we examine business ethics we must consider the actions of the people within the organization as well as the complete organization. It is important for the leaders of the businesses to have a grasp of right and wrong and to understand the effects that their products and services have on the consumer as well as the environment. Business ethics has come under scrutiny over the past several years thanks to such companies as Enron, and more recently BP. As a society we are faced with ethical dilemmas daily and our culture is shaped by how we handle these situations. A Code of Ethics policy is used in most businesses today to establish acceptable behaviors and actions expected among the employees and executive officers. The Code of Ethics is fundamental in building a stable business foundation with all members being expected to comply. It is here that the problems start because even though the Code of Ethics should guide the members toward appropriate moral activity, it is not always successful. When moral and ethical behaviors go bad it affects us all. The top three ethical issues within today’s business environment that affect my community and my organization are corporate social responsibility, leadership issues, and financial issues. The first ethical issue to affect......
