Entry 1 (24th September 2012)

It's exactly 12:01 am now, and seeing that this is my first entry, I should update a little of myself. I'm currently at Taiwan for a short vacation with my high school friends of about 10years. And they are Lee Sue Ee, Soh Pei Ling, and Chong Yee Wun. We arrived here on Saturday, 22nd September 2012, and so far it has been an hectic journey seeing that we are here on our own for the first time and we did not go through any travel agency.

Enough of updating, I just finish my STA assessment and e-mailed it to my group mates to submit later in the morning. I just hope that I did good enough despite my heavy schedule and with little initiative. Oh yes, I am now in my room while the girls are sleeping and the view is just amazingly breath-taking. How fortunate i am that I could do my assignment while looking at this sea view. The sound of the rushing waves eases my mind to relaxation and light music as my background to suit my emotion. The only thing that lack, is a partner to share this spectacular moment. Anyway, I should sleep now. Gotta be up early later for another tour around the north-east Taiwan before heading to the capital city Taipei later in the evening. I will update my entry again later whilst exploring every possibility here. Good Night !

Good afternoon, it was quite a day after waking up restlessly. Breakfast here was amazing, I mean, what more can we ask with such nature phenomenal as our spectacular view. After finishing our meal, we headed out for a walk in the street of Jiu Feng and bought somewhat souvenir for ourselves and for friends and families. I got some for my friends as well. After we were done with our souvenir shopping, it's time for us to leave this wondrous highland and head to the capital city, Taipei. So, after we manage our luggages and got into a cab, we finalised our further plans and decided to take the cab straight to the city instead of our initial plan of taking the train. Alas, here I am jolting down my morning-afternoon experience in the cab ride.

It's 9pm now and we had our dinner at the heart of Taipei. We had their local delight of "flour-rice noodle". It was indeed a slight different than our regular meal as it is a combination of sour, salty and sweet noodle sauce. After our delicious dinner, we took the subway and headed to Taipei 101, the third tallest building in the world. Needless to convey, the view was beyond spectacular as we were able to see the entire city of Taipei in its night view. But the most extraordinary experience is the method of travelling to the top and bottom, it only took roughly 35 seconds to 101th floors. And after the exhausting journey, we are now heading out back to downtown for a light supper and drink to end the night. I can't say how hungry I am since I almost fainted earlier for skipping lunch. Till tomorrow, here I wish good night and excitingly await for tomorrow's entry. Good Bye !

P/S : on our journey return to the hotel, we seem lost in the midst of the city and as we walked to search our ways back, we saw 3 men hitting and slapping a poor female and what surprised is that people around them just seem to walked away and let that poor lady to be beaten. I was so concern and wanted to call the police, but how unfortunate that I don't know the number to contact the authorities. But just minutes passes, police siren could be heard from afar and they arrest those guys and had their investigation on the spot. Seriously amazed by the efficiency of their police force here. Unlike our native police, they seem to take hours to the scene. Well, conclusion is, we manage to find our way back after asking random people the direction. Good day indeed, not so much for that lady though.…...

...A Journal Entry: Trail of Tears A Journal Entry: Trail of Tears Summer 1838 It has just been announced that to us that there are some among us that have signed a treaty selling away our lands from out from under us with President Jackson. I do not understand why our own people would do such a thing. We have been told that if we do not leave, General Scott will come and force us off our lands. (Schultz, 2012) My husband says that it is only because gold was discovered here that the white man is pushing us away. Though he does not wish, my husband says we must go before the general gets here. Fall 1838 We did not leave when my husband wanted us to go. My sister came to visit us and begged me to come back home and stay with her. She said that even my husband could come, but when we arrived at her large home, my father was there, and he told us that we could not enter and that he only had one daughter. I wanted to cry. My husband, bowed to my father slightly and we left, but before we got too far away, my sister called me back. She was crying as she gave me an old family heirloom that was supposed to have come to me on the day I turned 21. She begged me to leave my husband and those of the Cherokee people and come home to our family, but what she did not understand was that these people had become my people. I could never leave my husband as she wished of me. I loved him far too much. We stayed on in the home land of the Cherokee. But then......

...Susan Webber Macroeconomics Journal # The Economic Downturn and how it has Affected Your Family It was really easy to do this journal on personal experiences. I think everyone this year has gone through some hard economic times. My husband was actually reading my homework with me and thought of the topic of gas prices. Gas prices have affected so many people. The rise of gas prices have affected so many people that they can’t even drive cars they have to depend on buses for transportation to get to where they have to go. People often try to get together and make car pools so they can save on the price of gas. When people can save on gas they can use the money that they have saved on their families. Most people have children and need every little penny so they can go out and spend family time and just go out to eat. I can’t even remember the last time that I went out to eat with my family. It seems like everything costs so much money that we can’t do the things that we enjoy. The economic times have made it so hard for families to just wake up and have a good day. There is always something that has to cost money. It’s like people have forgotten how to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Much of it has to do with our children. It is like everything that they want has to do with electronics. All of the electronical devices cost so much money, however they are breaking all of the time. What happened to the simple pleasures of just spending time......

...A. Journal Entries When the first time I entered L’Cokelat Day Spa, the employees greeted me politely with a big smile. Even though the place is not so big, but I felt a good environment there. The place is simply decorated, but the simplicity makes me comfortable in there plus the hospitality of the employees which makes me happy coming to L’Cokelat Day Spa. It was 12.30 pm, so there was no other customer there associated with the lunch time and the weekdays. Besides, I smelled a good flavor of chocolate which makes my body and mind relaxed since I entered. No need to wait for a long time, the receptionist directly showed me the menu of the variety of services. But, I disappointed with the menu, because the menu did not look good and well designed, it was just a printed menu on a white paper covered with a thick cover. Fortunately, the receptionist was able to explain about the services. She offered me lot of varieties completely. They have local and imported products. Since it was my first time, I could not decide which service suited my needs well. Luckily, the receptionist asked my need and took initiative to ask me to try the sample of the product which enabled me to smell and try on the product on my skin. I felt so happy and satisfied with the sample, because directly after tested it, I could choose which the best product and service is for me. In that visit, I chose “Tropical Salt Mousse Papine” in order to satisfied my need to get the complete package of spa with......

...Scott Nicklas Monday, September 2, 2013 Journal Entry 1 In a perfect world, there would be no racism, no oppression, no government corruption, and basic freedoms and rights for every human being. In the United States today, our basic rights are being taken away from agencies such as the NSA. In a perfect world things like this would not happen and everyone would have their own right to privacy. Also, there would be no crime or unemployment and the economy would be better than ever. Politicians would not be ridiculously overpaid/corrupt and the people would have more power. Some of the changes I would bring about in a perfect world would be working with other countries to solve problems that actually matter like hunger and poverty. Providing third world countries with industrialized technology and education would be the ideal way to help them, as opposed to just giving them food and money. While external problems are always important, the well being of my own country will always come first. In the United States I would emphasize a free market economy and attempt to get rid of big corporations or monopolies, starting with the oil industry. The people should not be paying ridiculous prices for everyday items such as gasoline. While I would definitely change many aspects of society to create a perfect world, it is logical to keep some things the way that they already are. One of these things would be Democracy. While completely wiping out the government......

...October 1846 Dear Journal, Today is another day that we have gone without our potato crops growing. I do not understand what is going on. We have a huge farm land in the outskirts of Dublin and we are doing everything right but the crops will not grow or they will grow and will then wither which at that point, we are unable to eat them. My family is starving and we are loosing weight at a rapid rate. I do not know how much longer I am going to be able to deal with this. I have taken the time out every night to make sure that I pray but it seems as though my wishes have not been answered. I have been speaking with some of the other farmers in the area and we all agree that maybe it would be time to pick up and leave the area and we were all thinking about going to the United States. My hopes, by leaving, is that I will be able to make a better life for my family and I will be able to feed my family without relying on my crops, that obviously do not want to grow. November 5, 1846 I spoke with my fellow farmers and we have all agreed that this is now the time that we must move on and immigrate to the United States. I heard that there will be a ship that will leave in a few days and I must get my family on the ship. I know that this will be the best for all of us in order to survive because these potato crops are just not growing like they use to. I need to inform my family to pack what we have, but make sure that it is only the essentials because I do not want to be......

It appears denial has no boundaries, just like addiction is a disease that can affect anyone. I think these teens fell into the same category as most , myself included. you want to find a plausible explanation for why someone would chose to use drugs. People who have "everything" a good home, a good family, etc. do not use drugs. I think society is in denial about was type of individual can become an addict. This is only confirmed with the list of myths. Adapted from Myths of Addiction. Carlton K. Ericsson's List of common myths include "1. Addicts are bad, crazy, or stupid." From watching the YouTube video on method addicts one can agree that the male and female that became addicts had not been from an uneducated or crazy environment. I think society is in denial over the fact that addicts have a disease, a disease of the brain and it extends far beyond just drug use. After watching several videos and reading a few articles, I can see how denial provides a temporary escape from having to deal with addiction. Addiction is a disease and unlike most diseases it involves a lot more energy and treatment. A person with an hypothyroidism may feel tired, cold and poorly. However, with the assistance of medication like synthroid the individual may feel better and live a......

...Journal Entry HIS/110 The Spanish migration to North America was an interesting topic in this week that piqued my interest. Learning more about this topic in the second chapter of US History through 1877 was a good starting point to keep my attention because it is something that I have been fascinated with beforehand. I used the artwork from this chapter because it is beautiful and seems to tell an excellent story of migration and the survival skills that were needed in this day in age. I researched more about the Spanish conquistador and was able to read on "Came Men on Horses: The Conquistador Expeditions of Francisco Vazquez de Coronado and Don Juan de Onate". This book speaks of any myths that may have been written or spoken of about the way the conquest of America. The Spanish was the first Europeans to enter the America Southwest. Stories about the city of Gold is what lured in a lot of people in hopes of riches. The conquistadors were fighting the decision to search for the city of gold or not. They did not want to have the burden on their shoulders of not attempting to search for it, and someone else find it if it deemed to be true. There were seven cities that were expected to contain gold for the conquistadors to search out. The conquistadors depended on navigation when it came to their needs of survival. This would be of great service to them when it comes to finding their way to their destination...

... 1907 Dear Journal, It has been awhile since I have had the time to sit down, and write much with all that has been going on. A little over a month ago now I left my home in Greece in hopes of a better life. So many men came to our village with stories of the riches of America. I decided to make plans to come here to America myself. The idea of spending a 3 year stint in the military which was mandatory for me just did not seem right for me. Life in the old country has been really hard over the years. Mama and Papa have struggled greatly trying to farm the land which largely is just rocky in the mountain sides. I wanted to help them. I wanted to come here in order to make a great deal of money to take home, and purchase our family a better land with a larger home. Being only 16 I had no idea how hard this idea would become. The path here seemed to take forever. The ship I ended up on was so cramped with people. The only fare I could afford purchased me the lowest fare ticket. I spent 2 weeks within the belly of this ship. The narrow packed beds barely gave me a decent sleep. There was so much sickness around me. The smell of throw up seemed to constantly linger in the air. There was little to no food at times on the boat for us in the lower class. I tried to spend as much time as I could on the upper deck, however, the often storms made this impossible much of the time. I was thankful I had remembered to bring my worry beads. Twirling them around my fingers......

...Tajae Gibbs Liane Tanguay English Composition 14 May 2015 Journal Entries Journal Entry #1: Should we rule society through strict displanarian order or let people organize themselves? I believe it should be through strict displanarian order. Why? Well in my opinion we need order. We need to be told what is supposed to be done and how. Another reason is because the society right now is not in order. If we was to let people organize themselves… well it would be a mess. People would be doing the complete opposite because they feel that they do not need the order. Without displanarian order this world would not be the same. I believe right now the rate for students going to college is high. If there was not displanarian order then probably a lot of kids would have dropped out of school or not even gone to school at all. I felt maybe this was my best work because I got to give my opinion on what I think about displanarian order. I got to talk about what could happen and what might not happen if displanarian order was not a choice. I had thought a lot about the question when it was given in class. Journal Entry #2: Write about the time when you felt uncomfortable Well I did not really know what to write but I did write my experience about when I went to Hawaii. ...Where I live Hardee’s restaurant is the place to be if you are at least 65 or older. As I ordered my coffee and sausage biscuit, an elderly gentleman stepped in front of me to get a senior coffee to go and join his buddies. I was about to say excuse me I was here first, but I didn’t. I decided to use him as my “watch” subject. I watched him as he went and sat down with the “crowd”. All of them greeted him as if they did not just see him the day before. The group was a mixture of ages, seemly between 60 and 80 years old. As I watched them talk all at the same time, I heard my subject state that he would be turning 67 in a few days. I was surprised because he looked at least 80 to me. As I listened further, I learned that he was addicted to cocaine and drank heavily. He talked about how his addiction led to the loss of his job and family. He talked about how much he regretted what he had done and how lonely he was. All was quiet at the table with some of the gentleman nodding in agreement with him. Then it was right back to talking about the old days. As I watch these gentlemen talking about the ole days, I couldn't help but to feel sorry for them for the things and the people that they have lost in life. The older ones (the one that I thought were at least 80) seems to be the ones that I felt sorry for the most. They were the ones that have lost the most and the ones with most of the health problems. The 60+ year old were the ones that seem to were the loudest and talked......

...reading group. Before we start, I ask all the students to read the title of the book and the back description, and predict what they think the book is going to be about. They all seem to understand and make some great predictions. I take turns having the students read a page of the chapter and I ask questions throughout. At the end of the chapter, I have all of the students give their predictions. I will really intrigued to see how well the students responded to the book. They all seemed to love it. I worry that the book was too easy, though. When picking a book, Mrs. Sinatro helped me find a book that was on the student’s reading levels. The only issue is that I think Mrs. Sinatro underestimated the ability of her students. The children in my group were basically begging me to allow them to read more chapters then assigned. I am happy that they understand the book I just wish I could challenge them more. Kayla, I have a good idea for this that you might like to take to your own classroom—you can generate a blog with another class (even in a different state) where students are reading the same text. Think about ways to have students get involved discussing books with other students. At 10:30 a.m., it is time for Math. First, Mrs. Sinatro has the students read a “Time for Kids” article titled Should Fractions be Subtracted? After reading the article aloud, Mrs. Sinatro has her students do a writing prompt about whether they agree with the two columnists with disagreeing......

...JOURNAL ENTRY OPTION: INTERVIEW WITH JI 1 Journal Entry option: Interview with JI By: Oluwaseun Obajolu PGCC, Child Development Dr. Dawn Wadud 2 INTRODUCTION It was a rare encounter, a friendship that developed through a chat room over the internet. Even though Felicia and I had been in the same nursing class for about 6 months, let’s just say we never noticed each other or maybe selectively ignored each other, as the other person was insignificant at that point, in comparison with the herculean task of passing the class. We both struck a cord in each other, our personalities were so much alike and a friendship blossomed. Our lives started to gradually intertwine; I thought I was totally swept away till I met Junior and Halima: Her Kids. I first met the kids in the car and right away, their personalities shone through. Halima was extremely and delightfully talkative while Junior was a little withdrawn and would only say Hi because his Mom asked him to. I thought he was just a shy kid till I observed that in the entire 20 minute ride, he hardly said two words which I thought was pretty unusual for a child of that age group. My curiosity was......

...Journal Entry Jennifer Augustus ETH/125 July 17, 2011 April Dreeke Journal Entry It's been three days of rain now, with no end in sight. Sometimes I wonder if this whole island might one day be underwater from all the rain. My friend Irini says that the ocean swallows the water, and the island could never be covered. I listen, but I'm not sure even she believes everything she says. My name is Suri Songhai, and I live in Hawaii, the year is 1922. I came to Hawaii because my family enlisted a nakodo’s (go-between) on my behalf in my homeland of Korea, to find me a husband to take care of me. Many Korean men have been leaving our poor area outside of Okinawa to find more lucrative work. There have been quite a few who leave with the intent of working in Hawaii and building a beautiful home and having a family. There were many stories at the time of how well Korean mother's sons were doing in Hawaii, many pictures of homes, properties, beautiful beaches, gardens and animals. Additionally, a monthly check is sent from the sons to support their families back home in Korea. Many hundreds of young men have left Korea to work in the sugar cane fields in Hawaii. Families never know of the hardship their son's suffer, as the son's would never say; it would do no good to have their families worried or afraid for them. So they put on a happy face for all of the pictures, and sent as much money as they can without starving. Mothers of daughters saw these things and wanted their......
