They can tell you what will more than likely happen during your first, second, and third trimesters. In the first two weeks of being pregnant, you aren’t really pregnant yet. Conception takes place two weeks after your period. To calculate your due date, Obstetricians count ahead 40 weeks from the start of your last period. Week 4 is when your baby is implanted into your uterus. Week 5 is when the baby’s brain, spinal cord, heart, and other organs begin to form. By the end of the 5th week, your baby is the size of the tip of a pen. Week 6 the neural tube closes, and your baby’s heart begins to pump blood. By week 7 your baby’s head beings to develop. ...central insurance institution in Poland, and is further disseminated among the 16 regions of Poland in which branches of NFZ are located. From the local community budget, moneys are paid directly to selected health care units. Due to the yet unfinished implementation of family medicine, primary health care in Poland consists of two dimensions or care models: the old Semashko model with its group out-patient units and the family medicine model. Nowadays both dimensions have equal representation in the health care system: First, part of primary health care – the remaining Semashko model – is organized based on out-patient units. Traditionally, these units consisted of different parts: general-internal medicine; pediatrics; surgery; OBGYN; district nursing care and in many cases dental care. Care in each of these parts was provided by specialists of each particular medical discipline. In bigger cities such out-patient clinics included also many ambulatory working specialists like cardiologists, rheumatologists, neurologists, otorhinolaryngologists, ophthalmologists a.s.o. Nowadays these units consist of group practices usually comprising internists and pediatricians who create unified lists of patients. In many cases, they are supported by ambulatory care specialists, who are located at the same building, but are separated in an organizational meaning. Dental care shifted from this organization firstly and nowadays is running independently. In many cases due to......

Nursing Education

...Rochester School of Nursing in upstate New York. "But if you want to have any kind of leadership role, you really need to go back for your Masters. Especially in metropolitan areas, you're going to find that anybody in a leadership position has not only their BSN but an MSN." Additionally, MSN is the entry level degree for nurse educators. (For most faculty positions, you'll need a doctorate). And it opens up doors toward positions in public health and health policy. For nurses who want stay in the clinical practice, an MSN is required to become a Nurse Practitioner. Years ago you only needed a certificiate, but these days, Herendeen says, a Masters is necessary. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner requires a specialization—pediatrics, OBGYN, geriatrics, etc.—so it makes sense for anyone looking to enhance their expertise and cement their credibility in a particular specialty. Most often, NPs wind up doing outpatient services, or ambulatory care, as opposed to inpatient work. But Herendeen says that's not always the case. "People don't necessarily want to leave the bedside," she says. "We're seeing more and more nurses who go back for their Masters and return to the hospital floors." Whether you leave the hospital as a Nurse Practitioner or stay inpatient, an MSN doesn't necessarily guarantee a raise: working in the intensive care units at off hours still may earn you more pay than NP work. However, as Herendeen points out, you're likely to have a more civilized......

The Doctor

...OBGYNs have one of the most rewarding jobs. One of the most rewarding things about the job according to Dr. Donald Whitaker (6), is “the joy of it and sharing with families one of the greatest events of their lives”. A lot of people say it’s most rewarding because they get to witness the miracle of birth every day. Whitaker states that “If you don’t mind working hard and the long hours it is probably the most rewarding careers in medicine.” OBGYNs work hard to get where they are. According to Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center (prepare 4), “You can prepare for a future in medicine by taking courses in biology, chemistry, physics, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.” It takes four years to complete and earn an M.D. Their schooling is separated in half. The first two years are lectures, classes and spending time in laboratories. They must take a computer class since technology is the fastest growing industry right now. They also must take courses such as English and speech that foster good communication skills. The third and fourth years of the degree are practical studies; students rotate through different departments in a clinic or hospital, including internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics and OB/GYN. Armstrong says, “The fourth year primarily focuses on OB/GYN clinical electives, such as high-risk obstetrics, endocrinology and ambulatory OB/GYN. During the fourth year, students will apply for a residency program through a computer matching method. "The......

...your stomach. That is one of the many reasons why you should attend all of your prenatal care appointments, as it is important to your health, as well as your baby's. Another reason why prenatal care appointments are important is because they can be used to determine if your baby will have any medical conditions or complications when they are born. While many parents do not want to know, ahead of time, there are many others who do. Knowing if your baby will have any medical conditions is important, as it can help you financially prepare for those complications and any life adjustments that need to be made. When attending your prenatal care appointments, whether you are seeing a family practice doctor, an OBGYN, or a midwife, you should be able to see a sonogram of your baby, as well as hear his heart beat. The pregnant woman will also learn that a healthy baby starts with healthy food. When you are pregnant, everything you eat or drink nourishes your baby too. That’s why it’s important to eat healthy foods. A pregnant woman only needs about 300 extra calories a day to meet her needs and give her baby the necessary nutrients. Therefore, your goal is to eat highly nutritious foods while avoiding excessive calories, fat, sugar, and sodium. There are no guarantee safe levels of alcohol consumption when pregnant. ...young lady who is trying to conceive or doom to a young couple who used a defective condom. However, the unknowing PCOS patient is another story. The disorder is known for causing young ladies to go months without a single sign of her period. This can cause uneasiness when there is a possibility of pregnancy. It is most assuredly the basis of frustration when trying to calculate ovulation since, ovulation rarely takes place. According to Cornforth, “Most women have never even heard of PCOS, yet it causes a wide variety of symptoms that often affect female reproductive health in ways that can be truly devastating” (2003). Many young women wanting to conceive may find themselves sitting across from their OBGYN trying to find out why they are not having regular menstrual cycles or why after 2 years of unprotected sex they are still not pregnant. Questions such as these should prompt their doctor to ask questions and order a blood test. Once the blood test is ordered and completed, verification of the patient’s hormone levels should prompt the doctor to conduct an ultrasound of the patient’s ovaries. The PCOS patient will yield ultrasound photos that show small cyst-like lumps embedded predominantly in the lining of one of the their ovaries. The patient’s other ovary may have cysts as well although not as many as the other. These cysts are actually the eggs that were supposed to be released during the times the young......

Running Through the Woods

...An Obstetricians and Gynecologists (OBGYN) are professions that have captured my interest before I was even able to do simple task such as multiplying. While in second grade, my mother’s pregnancy with my younger brother ignited my curiosity of learning the fetal development process. Always being an old soul, instead of watching shows in which the average child would, I was drawn to the Discovery Health channel watching "Deliver Me" and things of that sort. Shocking my elders, I would inform them of material they were not even aware of on the subject. My mother was pleased to see their awestruck faces and humored expressions due to her seven year old child lecturing on a range of topics from cells to a cesarean section. To bear a child, a woman's body must endure countless changes from the expansion of their stomachs to even the speed at which their heart beats. Each little change God has put in place has a purpose in the development of the baby so we humans can experience the precious miracle of bringing a child into the world; "Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward," (Psalms 127:3). It is indescribable to explain how utterly beautiful pregnancy and the birth of a child are. It would give me such great pleasure to assist in any way I can in the process of the development and delivery of beautiful, healthy babies. Furthermore I would love to see the pure joy these innocent beings bring to their parents faces.  ...

Postpartum depression has the symptoms of major depression, however, it is a type of depression that takes effect after a mother gives birth to her child. Some of the symptoms of postpartum are changes in eating or sleep patterns, crying uncontrollably for no apparent reason, loss of intimate time with her partner, anxiety, and also extreme irritability.
