1. Evaluate the fundamental driving forces that shape the organizational environment of the selected company. Be sure to address the following: competing in a global marketplace, workforce diversity, ethics and morality, and technological innovation.
PepsiCo has been one of the leading beverage company around the globe. The company has been ranked as one of the best companies about the work environment for one to work. The PepsiCo company has positioned itself well to compete in the global market by making sure that they have come up with marketing strategies that are unique. The company has been using a lot of funds in strategizing on the best policies to use so as to continue upholding that given global position in the production of beverages. In fact, the major competitor for decades of the PepsiCo has been the Coca-Cola Company. However, over the years, the performance gap between the two firms is reducing with the PepsiCo emerging to be the world’s best company in the different area. The company has on many occasions been awarded as one of the firms that embrace diversity. Being a company with the global status, it is currently employing talented individuals from different regions. The company is also undertaking diversity programs that ensure that the employees feel appreciated regardless of their place of origin, race, sexual orientation, and gender among other things (Braedel-Kühner, 2016).
PepsiCo has been holding high levels of ethics and morality inside and outside the organization. There have been fewer complaints from the employees relating to the unethical behavior of the employees. The firm has for many years build what is termed as the best human resources in the history of the multinationals. Most of the employees appreciate the kind of leadership that is demonstrated by the company. In fact, every individual employee feels being part of the company. The employees are trained on how to uphold good morals and learn to coexist and offer good customer services to the people. The code of ethics of the employees guides their behavior. The provision has made the company to become unique since everything is guided systematically. Cases of misconduct are usually handled by the human resources thus ensuring the work environment created is conducive. The technological innovation of the company is beyond par. The company has been investing millions in innovation especially in the matters that support the world. The company uses the most current technology thus making it stand out. Additionally, the company has a tendency of recruiting the best and the most talented employees who in return use their innovative minds to come up with technology to increase the productivity of the company. Other companies are lagging behind in regards to technology thus making it hard for them to compete with PepsiCo. The company is the best place to work because the employees are usually trained on how to use the current technology. The training programs are conducted and funded by the company thus making the employees be well-rounded and ready to work hard to achieve more for the company (Condrey, 2010).
2. Examine the organization’s specific practices or policies and the influence of these practices on individual and organizational outcomes.
PepsiCo has been undertaking certain practices as well as implementing various policies that have a significant impact on the outcome of the company. Some of the practices that have played a crucial role in the company are in the recruitment and hiring process of the company. The process is strict and transparent, and it has a goal of making sure that the persons selected are the best suited for particular jobs. The process of hiring has been structured has been structured in a way that the people recruited undergo various stages of elimination based on different capabilities to ensure that the people who have secured various positions are the best and talented. Thorough training is conducted for the employees in their specific area of specialization (Ferdman, 2014).
The issue of employee motivation is another area where the PepsiCo company has been doing well. PepsiCo ensures that all of its employees have remained motivated through the undertaking of various activities like awarding the employees who have attained their set target. Additionally, the company makes sure that it has provided the employees the environment where they can grow in their career. Opportunities that require promotion are first given to the employees of the company. Bonuses are also offered to the employees to make them motivated as they perform their duties. The PepsiCo company is also known to be one of the best companies in the world in regards to the compensation that is offered to the employees. The company has been the center of interest for many people seeking employment opportunities because the salaries that are offered are attractive. PepsiCo has also been involved in conducting some corporate social responsibility activities. The company is contributing to the water and energy sustainability around the globe that is saving the world billions of dollars annually. Most employees would feel better to associated with companies that are working towards improving the livelihood of the people.
Non-discrimination policies that have been implemented by the company have made the working environment of the company friendly. The policy has also helped in promoting diversity and inclusion in the company. Employees like to work in places where they are not discriminated against by the others. A diverse working environment is an important place for the employees to embrace teamwork and share ideas. Many candidates eye the company because of the inclusion policy that makes every individual feel valued and appreciated for their efforts and the work that they do in their distinct position. These practices and policies have greatly contributed to PepsiCo being the ideal place to work (Glicken, 2013). 3. Determine, which practices related to work attitudes in U.S. organizations, are most strongly affected by diversity and how those effects could be addressed.
Diversity has been an issue of concern especially in big corporations such as the PepsiCo. Some of the issues that have been used to define strongly people are disabilities, sexual orientation, religion, race, and gender. These practices cause the work environment for the employees unbearable and they need to be addressed early in advance. The issues managed can be addressed through the management of diversity. The employees need to be educated on the importance of valuing the other employees. The unfair unemployment practices are supposed to be curbed since they are destroying the integrity of many organizations in the manner through which they are handling the employees (Jackson, 2010).
Some of the strategies that can be applied in addressing these issues are promoting diversity in the leadership positions. This move will ensure that the employees have been educated on the importance of diversity and the benefits that are derived by the organized through the upholding of these policies. The organizations have to ensure that they have fostered openness in all the activities. The employees are supposed to be given equal opportunities of expressing their opinions and ideas so as to make sure that they have attributed the sense of value to all the employees. The organizations must also ensure that they have used the diversity training as tools of shaping the diversity policies in the organization. The employees must be involved in the formulation and the execution of the diversity initiatives that are formulated at the place of work. Finally, comprehensive evaluation of the employees will help in strengthening the diversity programs after the analysis of the results (Kulis, 2015).
