Overview of Varying Learning Styles
People are different and therefore do things differently, such as how they learn. How does one assimilate information the best? In this paper, this writer will discuss how to figure out a person’s learning style, different styles of learning, and how to accommodate the different learning styles. By understanding one’s individual learning styles, people can change the way that they teach and study in order to increase the knowledge that is retained.
How to Determine Learning Styles
There are multiple ways to figure out someone’s personal learning style. A person can look at ways that they study best for clues. Does an individual need to write and read everything, watch videos on the subject, must learn by doing, or a combination of these? A person could also take a questionnaire and based on their answers, come to the conclusion of their learning style. One of the most popular ways to learn one’s style of learning is to take a questionnaire created by VARK (VARK, 2014).
Different Styles of Learning
According to VARK learning questionnaire, the populace fall into five categories. These different sections are visual, aural, read/write, kinesthetic, and multimodal (Vark, 2014).
Visual consists of learning best by studying with diagrams or pictures. Visual learners, while studying written words, should find that highlighting information useful ((Blevins, 2014).
Persons that are more aurally inclined learn better by listening to information. The aural learner, while studying, should use a recorder so that they are able to listen to class discussions over and over again (Blevins,2014). To the student who learns best by reading and writing, creating an outline, making lots of notes, or lists will help them to retain the information well. This type of learner should also read over their notes, lists, and outlines.…...

Module 1: Social Gerontology - Overview/Learning Outcomes/ Key Terms

...MODULE 1: SOCIAL GERONTOLOGY - OVERVIEW/LEARNING OUTCOMES/ KEY TERMS CHAPTER 1 OVERVIEW In this first section, you are presented with an introduction to the field of gerontology, which addresses the social, psychological, physical, and demographic concerns related to aging and introduces the role of the person-environment perspective to study issues relevant to aging. Due to an increasing interest in understanding the process of aging and the changing demographics of the world, including the United States, gerontology is a growing field. More and more people in the U.S. are living beyond age 65 or even 85, with these "oldest old" as the fastest growing age group among Americans. The population of older adults in the U.S. is also becoming more ethnically diverse, although elders of color generally have a lower life expectancy due to health and economic disparities. The growth of the older population has raised questions as to whether our nation is prepared to meet the health care and social service needs of this group and their families. Given the growth in the number of older adults, society needs to address the public policy issues related to aging, including assessing the appropriateness of current policy and exploring innovative policy to meet the changing needs of older adults. Researching policy and social issues related to aging poses some challenges to gerontologists. The important question centers on being able to distinguish age differences from cohort......

...Managing and Directing Successful Projects with PRINCE2TM 2 Managing and Directing Successful Projects with PRINCE2TM Written by Andy Murray of Outperform, Lead Author of PRINCE2 this brochure provides an overview of both Managing and Directing Successful Projects with PRINCE2TM. The public consultation comprised of: • Reviewing the Issues Log • A series of workshops/focus groups facilitated by the Best Practice User Group (BPUG) • ‘Champion’ interviews of key users • A series of surveys. More than 170 organizations and individuals provided feedback as part of the consultation process. Analysis of the feedback shows a general consensus for change as follows: • Reduce the size of the manual and improve the style of language (more guidance less instruction) • Integrate with other OGC products • Show linkage to other methods and bodies of knowledge • Provide more guidance on tailoring (particularly for smaller projects) • Include (or reference) the soft aspects of Project Management (e.g. people management, change management, ‘fuzzy’ requirements). Why has PRINCE2 been refreshed? PRINCE2 is often cited as the world’s most widely used project management method. Its success is largely due to it being non-proprietary but also due to the ability of organizations to apply it to a variety of industries, environments and project sizes. Since its launch in 1996, the project management industry has not stood still. The emergence of Agile and iterative......

...Overview Founded in 1999, Blue Nile had grown to become the largest online retailer of certified diamonds and fine jewelry, with sales of $203.2 million in 2005 (up from $169.2 million in 2004). According to Internet Retailer Magazine, in 2006 Blue Nile was larger than the next three largest online jewelers combined; the magazine had ranked Blue Nile No. 48 in its Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites; in its December 2006 issue, the magazine went a step further and named Blue Nile an Internet Retailer Best of the Web 2007 company (one of five companies cited). In 2006, the market for jewelry in the U.S. was an estimated $55-$60 billion industry. Annual sales of diamond jewelry were in the $30-$35 billion range, with diamond engagement rings accounting for sales of $4-$5 billion. In an industry famous for big markups, frequent closeout sales, and myriad judgments of value that often mystified consumers, the marketing challenge for online jewelers was to convince understandably skittish shoppers to purchase fine jewelry online. It was one thing to shop for a diamond in a reputable jewelry store where one could put on a ring or other jewelry item to see how it looked, perhaps inspect a stone with a magnifying glass or microscope, and have a qualified jeweler describe the features of various stone(s) and cuts, compare the character and merit of various settings, and explain why some items carried higher price tags than others. It was quite another thing to commit to......

Haircolor Overview

...Haircolor Overview Although it can be one of the most rewarding services a stylist can provide at the salon, it is also one of the most challenging. Without proper knowledge of the level system, color theory, and the levels of decolorization, the client may not get their desired result; that can ultimately cause a loss of profit, and even clientele. If the stylist has a full understanding of all of the factors, there is a lot of money to be made. Both men and women are changing the color of their hair, and with the help of a stylist, they can achieve whatever look they desire. Stylists utilize what is called the level system, which is a system that is used to determine the lightness to darkness of a client’s hair. This helps decide whether the haircolor needs to have lift or will be deposit only. Color theory is used to determine they actual color of the clients hair. This is determined by use of the color wheel and the three primary colors; red, blue, and yellow. These are colors that cannot be created by mixing other colors, but with equal part of two of these colors you can create secondary colors. Tertiary colors are colors that can be made when a secondary color and its neighboring primary color are mixed. With knowledge of this, a stylist can change the client’s hair any color of the rainbow. The degree of decolorization comes into play when the client’s hair needs to be lightened to the extreme. If a client is a level 5 which is the lightest brown, and......

...History of English Literature Overview Anglo-Saxon Literature (500-1100) The Angles and Saxon conquered what is now called England in the 5th and 6th centuries. Christian missionaries taught the English to write. Northumbria soon produced Caedmon and Bede. Heroic poetry of a Christian kind is the chief legacy of Old English literature, notably Beowulf and the Elegies. A considerable prose literature grew up after King Alfred. Middle English Literature (1100-1500) Literature in England in this period was not just in English and Latin but in French as well and developed in directions set largely in France. Epic and Elegy gave way to romance and Lyric. English writing revived fully in English after 1360 and flowered in the reign of Richard II (1372-99). It gained a literary standard in London English after 1425 and developed modern forms of verse, prose and of Drama. The conquest of England in 1066 by William of Normandy displaced English as medium of literature. The language of new rulers was French. Saxons dealing with the King had to learn French and French was the language of court and the law for three centuries. Four genres of Middle English are: i. 1. Fabliau 2. Lyric 3. Dream Allegory 4. Varying Definitions of Consensual Sex

...Varying Definitions of Consensual Sex and Their Effects on College Students Kyla McGirr Eastern Kentucky University Abstract One of the greatest issues, by far, with our society today is the struggle with consensual sex, and what the boundaries for sexual relations between a male and a female are. What exactly is sexual consent and should it be given before not only sex involving penetration, but so many other kinds of sensual scenarios, too. In the Journal of Sex Research, the authors experiment with the parameters of sexual assault and give it a rather straightforward definition. Sexual assault is the nonconsensual sexual activity obtained through force or threats, verbal coercion, or intoxication (Jozkowski & Peterson, 2013) and it continues to be an underlying problem throughout the United States. However, most of the studies conducted throughout the assessment of what consensual sex is and how do you agree or disagree to sexual relations is a huge debate amongst many college students, both male and female. According to the academic journal, Journal Of Sex Research, college women are at an increased risk for falling victim to sexual assault compared to women of the general public throughout the United States. How so? College students are placing a great emphasis on nonverbal cues of sexual consent, and this is where opportunities of confusion arises amongst the sexes (Jozkowski &......

Personality theories are best explained by viewing two different theories and comparing how they operate against one another. Choosing just one theory is certainly not easy as there are several interesting theories’ that can help show why a person is the way he or she is. When talking about assumptions and propositions made by Sigmund Freud regarding personality it is almost unfeasible not to stagger; at least for most people. What does this say regarding Freud? Perhaps one might find that even today’s society Freud is still recognized as the greatest theorist concerning personality research. Despite all the fame Freud’s theory received copious amounts of controversy. The only way to make Freud’s theory more interesting is to compare it against other theories.
