The Status of Lgbt

...The Status of LGBT’s and Women While the United States of America is called the land of the free, it has not always been as such for many different members of the country. Depending on a person’s race, gender, or even their sexual orientation, some people have been deemed as not deserving to have the same rights and equality that the rest of us have enjoyed during our time here. While over time this has been reversed for the most part, women and members of the lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender (LGBT) community still do not always get to have their rights respected. Following is a look at where women and LGBT started and where they stand today, as well as some concepts that are held about gender and some issues that are relevant to both women and LGBT. Women have not always enjoyed the equality that they share with men today. There was a time when women were considered to have a place, and that place was not in the work force, or voicing their opinions, but in the home where they were considered to have “belonged”. Generally, wifehood and motherhood were regarded as a woman’s most relevant professions (Women's International Center). Not only that, but they were also considered material possessions of their husband for all intents and purposes that the law was concerned. This philosophy over women did not originate in America, it has actually been held by many different cultures throughout the history of the world. For example, it was Eve who first took a......

Status

...Rosemarie Lopez Status is a socially defined position in a group or society characterized by certain expectations, rights, and duties.() Statuses define us in so many ways, and sadly enough these statuses are so embedded in our society no one even realizes how significant they are. The statuses we have regardless of how we got them come with roles we have to play every single day, and although they may change due to the environment, or setting we are in, no matter where we are, we always are playing a role and we always have a status. The numerous statuses we hold are part of a status set, which is all the statuses one person occupies at a given time. Some of the different statuses one person can occupy is an ascribed status, achieved status, and a master status. An ascribed status is a social position conferred at birth or received involuntarily later in life, based on at-tributes over which the individual has little or no control, such as race/ ethnicity, age, and gender.() An achieved status is a social position a person assumes voluntarily as a result of personal choice, merit, or direct effort.()Lastly a master status is the most important status a person occupies. Now the different types of statuses listed are status that you, yourself have, but you can also have status symbols which are material signs that inform others of a person’s specific status. Examples of this would be if you were wearing a Rolex, which would show others you of rich status, or on the other......

Social Status

...Speech Intro: What is Social Status based on? Probably the first thing that comes to our mind is the difference between financial status of these two groups. Upper class societies tend to be wealthier whereas lower class societies tend to have less money and may even face poverty at times. Another huge factor that is used to compare these two classes is character. What I mean by character is this: Upper class individuals are generally viewed as having a higher education, morals, and decorum than lower classes; lower class societies are generally expected to have more social problems. These characteristics lead our society into looking down on lower class people. Social status is an important factor that describes society which is shown through The Jungle, The Notebook, My personal Experience, and through Bill Gates. The Jungle: In the Jungle, Upton Sinclair clearly shows the contrast between upper class and lower class.Throughout the book, many immigrants are faced with the problem of poverty, especially Jurgis Rudkus. He travels to America alongside his family, in search of a better life. Later does he find out that America is not what he expected it to be. Jurgis is in constant struggle for money and being an immigrant does not make it any easier on him or his family. The Rudkus family comes to realize that the cycle of Poverty is carried out by the Capitalist owners of the packing plants as well as local politicians. The owners would purposefully keep wages really low so...

“Using Material from Item a and Elsewhere Assess the Sociological Explanations of Changes in the Status of Childhood”

...children are victims. Adults have full control over the freedom of children, particularly parents e.g. children can no longer work therefore they have become economically dependent on their parents. So a child’s resources are limited to what their parents can offer them and those in poor families suffer under this. Postman argues that childhood is becoming effaced with adulthood e.g. young girls can be seen wearing short skirts and heels, which you would normally expect an older woman to be seen in. Furthermore, there has been an increasing amount of children committing adult crimes such as murder. This could be a result of TV and games which is exposing children to violence and influencing their actions. Concluding, it is clear that the status childhood has improved since the middle ages. Society has recognised that children need to be treated differently to adults and the introduction to various laws is evidence of this. However, it is parents who have full control over children and how they choose to use it will affect their individual experiences e.g. some parents may not care about their child’s welfare and leave them out on the street. But as society has become more child centred such as the existence of various charities e.g. the NSPCC, the lives of children can be transformed and they can be prevented from such dangers....

Art of Packing

...2. Boeing print packing slip In compliance to customs and Border protection, Boeing produces packing slips and invoices (Boeing Suppliers, 2005). The packing slips must ensure proper product classification followed by the harmonized tariff schedule (HTS) (Boeing Suppliers, 2005). Some classifications are the full name of each item, part numbers how it appears on the purchase order, also if the item is raw material, the material grade, class and dimensions must also be documented. The listed information is not only important for the invoice process but to the customer. This provides the customer with an accuracy to their purchase and shipment (Boeing Suppliers, 2014). There are critical elements that must be clearly identified on the packing slip and invoices. Packing slips must include: 1. A Packing slip number and date, 2. Boeing Purchase contract number will also be noted on the packing slip. 3. Boeing and suppliers Part Number(s) that is shown on the purchase contract. In addition, on each contract line item shipped, the document must include the total quantity, unit price, and unit of measure (Boeing Suppliers, 2014).
