Reflection 1: Employee-Employer conflict
Presented by: Raynetta L. Hairston
Course: Intro to Interpersonal Communications
Date: June 1, 2014

The choice to quit my previous job with The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) which trained me as an seasoned administrative professional was not only a concern to me but to my former Boss as well. By using the pillow method, I will communicate the stand I took on this critical decision of my life.
Position 1: I am right, you are wrong When I decided to quit my previous job, my employer was not too happy. It is true that he was losing an asset he had help create but I had grown enough to understand the significance of the experience I gained. I had been exposed to exclusive training with the company and had acquired the necessary skills to help me handle difficult tasks. I was always available when my manager required my contribution; I knew he would miss that. However, I was more concerned about my experience and exposure in other fields, as well as what I had to do to achieve my life goals.
Position 2: You are right, I am wrong Leaving my previous employer who trained me to be a top notch administrative professional was obviously painful. According to him, if I only took some more time, he would have promoted me to a managerial position in the company. He was willing to expose me to higher responsibilities that would prepare me to handle extremely difficult situations that managers experience in their duties. However, I no longer had the desire to be someone’s secretary.

Position 3: both right, both wrong My employer was correct when he claimed that he was concerned of me and would ensure that I am well versed with experience and exposure in my field of work. He was also right to say that he had trained me on the basics of my career and he was ready to expose me to more knowledge in the field. However, I feel he was wrong in thinking that all he had done for me would have made me remain with UNCF forever. I was right to say that I needed to achieve my goals, which did not seem to come my way soon enough while employed at UNCF. However, I do believe I was wrong to think I could have achieved my goals overnight.
Position 4: This issue is not as important as it seems Now that the issue has passed, it does not seem relevant anymore. At the time, we remained in each other’s thoughts when it came to analyzing this issue. However, as time passed and we look back at the situation, it was the best idea at the time to quit my job and search for greener pastures.
Position 5: There is truth in all perspectives My former employer was right that he had invested extensively in me. It is true that he had converted my naivety in the field into expertise. He had good thoughts for me and he was willing to define my success as an expert while employed at UNCF. It is also true that all the skills I had were because of his exclusive effort in making me knowledgeable. On the other hand, I was also correct to dictate where I wanted to achieve my success. I was right to move to another company that seemed to offer a better position for my career growth in the field of Information Technology. In addition, it was okay for me to dictate that I solely needed change in my working environment and settle in an environment that was essentially satisfactory.…...

...Romans road and Four Spirit Laws was a method of sharing the Gospel in a more straight forward way. Just like the actual roads of Rome it was important for stability and expansion of information. The method consists of five parts and each part is supported by one verse from the book of romans. The first verse says “Everyone is a sinner” meaning it is ok to sin all humans will at some point. This doesn’t make sinning ok; it only means that it’s only natural too. The second verse says that “The price of sin is death” which means the penalty of sin is death. Christ paid the penalty for our sin. We all deserve death, which is the ultimate penalty for sin. Everyone will pay for his sin unless he comes to Christ, who has paid the price for our sin with His blood which is stated in the third verse as well. The fourth verse states that “We can receive salvation and eternal life through Jesus Christ” which means if you put your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and make Him the Master, the Boss of your life, you will live forever. God loves you and wants you to enjoy peace and life, today and eternally. God doesn't hate you, but he hates sin. He loved you before you were born. He knew you'd need a Savior and sent His only Son Jesus to die in your place. Christ, who was without sin became a sin sacrifice for you. The final stated that “salivation through Jesus brings us into a relationship with God makes us righteous in his eyes”. The advantage of these verses is that they...

Massacre of Fort Pillow

...The Massacre at Fort Pillow: Holding Nathan Bedford Forrest Accountable Ned Bishop United States History II Professor Citro March 22, XXXX Title of paper. Writer’s name. Title of course, instructor’s name, and date. Source: Diana Hacker (Boston: Bedford/St. Martin’s, 2004). 67 Bishop 2 Although Northern newspapers of the time no doubt exaggerated some of the Confederate atrocities at Fort Pillow, most modern sources agree that a massacre of Union troops took place there on April 12, 1864. It seems clear that Union soldiers, particularly black soldiers, were killed after they had stopped fighting or had surrendered or were being held prisoner. Less clear is the role played by Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest in leading his troops. Although we will never know whether Forrest directly ordered the massacre, evidence suggests that he was responsible for it. Fort Pillow, Tennessee, which sat on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, had been held by the Union for two years. It was garrisoned by 580 men, 292 of them from the Sixth United States Colored Heavy and Light Cavalry, 285 from the white Thirteenth Tennessee Cavalry. Nathan Bedford Forrest’s troops numbered about 1,500 men.1 The Confederates attacked Fort Pillow on April 12, 1864, and had virtually surrounded the fort by the time Forrest arrived on the battlefield. At 3:30 P.M., Forrest displayed a flag of truce and sent in a demand for unconditional surrender of the sort he had used...

At 3:30 p.m., Forrest demanded the surrender of the Union forces, sending in a message of the sort he had used before: “The conduct of the officers and men garrisoning Fort Pillow has been such as to entitle them to being treated as prisoners of war. . . . Should my demand be refused, I cannot be responsible for the fate of your command.”2 Union Major William Bradford, who had replaced Major Booth, killed......

Fort Pillow

...rebels under the command of Nathan Bedford Forrest overran Fort Pillow, a former Confederate stronghold situated on a bluff on the Tennessee bank of the Mississippi, some 40 miles north of Memphis. The garrison consisted of about 600 Union soldiers, roughly evenly divided between runaway slaves-turned-artillerists from nearby Tennessee communities and white Southern Unionist cavalry mostly from East Tennessee. Under a flag of truce which his men violated by creeping up on the fort, Forrest demanded the garrison’s surrender, threatening that if it refused he would not be responsible for the actions of his men. Believing Forrest was bluffing, Bradford refused, whereupon the Confederates swarmed over the parapet. KB: This is great to show K: Rebels, Confederates Precisely three years after the Civil War began, one of the cruelest deeds in the annals of warfare occurred at Fort Pillow, forty miles north of Memphis, Tennessee, on the bank of the Mississippi River, when both black troops of the 6th US Colored Artillery and white troops of the 13th Tennessee Union Cavalry were murdered in cold blood. General Nathan Forrest considered a slave in uniform with a gun a direct challenge and threat to the way of life in the South, a situation that could never be tolerated. At Fort Pillow, Forrest would take the "no quarter to Union Negro......

The University database also contains research papers which can be used to answer my research question. 1.5 Structure Chapters 2, 3 and 4 will answer research questions 1, 2 and 3. Chapter 5 contains an analysis of how to manage cultural differences that influence the entry mode choice. After these chapters the main question is discussed in chapter 6 followed by conclusions. The final chapter contains future recommendations and the limitations that apply for this thesis. 1.6 Methodology The research is based on preliminary researches. The sources of this research consist of papers published in several journals. The disadvantage of this method of researching is that the research relies on secondary data which are the opinions of other scholars instead of facts based on empirical research. Therefore papers from high quality journals will be used to increase the reliability and credibility of this paper. Entry modes and Cultural Distance 5 Chapter 2: Cultural distance Culture is a concept that is difficult to define. Hofstede’s (1980) definition is perhaps the best known and therefore also applied here: ‘Culture is the collective programming of the mind which distinguishes the members of one human group from another... Culture, in this sense, includes systems of values; and values are among the building blocks of culture’. This chapter will provide further information......

...METHODOLOGY This portion contains the research design, the subject of the study, the data collecting device, and the ways that the researchers did to derive up with the result. The researchers utilized a descriptive method of gathering data, meaning collecting data by way of using survey questionnaire and introduce them to the selected respondents. It was developed with the determination of describing the study, making the readers understand what the study is all about and on how it will be helpful to every student to be aware on the most prevalent activities that the UB students are engaged in during their Vacant Periods. The method used requires shorter time spent for data collection and processing. The cost entailed in studying only a part of the population is much lower compared with investigations involving the whole population. It allows a more accurate execution of descriptive procedures. Designed questionnaire surveys were disseminated to the Students of the University of Batangas five (5) from every College Departments, who were randomly selected, meaning selecting a sample by giving each sampling unit an equal chance of being drawn as sample. The respondents of the study were limited to fifty only coming from all College Departments of the said institution. The questionnaire was based on the specific objectives of the proposed study. Pillow Method Paper

...Pillow Method Paper The pillow method is a five-step process used to resolve a disagreement or enable two people to gain understanding from a disagreement. The process involves each individual to look at the problem through five different perspectives. These steps or perspectives include: “I’m right you’re wrong”, “You’re right I’m wrong”, “both right both wrong”, “this issue isn’t important”, and “the truth is in all perspectives” (Alder & Proctor, p. 104). The purpose of the pillow method is for each person to gain insight from each step in the process. By looking at the problem from multiple perspectives each person gets the chance to enhance their cognitive complexity (Alder & Proctor, p. 104). In this paper I will apply the pillow method to a disagreement a coworker and I had over the new gun control laws that are being proposed by our government. While my co-worker believes that the government is trying to take away our rights by proposing new gun laws, I however believe that there should be changes made to the current laws put in place. I believe applying the pillow method to any argument will result in either a resolution or a better understanding between the two parties involved. “I’m right you’re wrong”: This step involves me stating the reasons why I believe that I am right and explaining my point of view on the subject (Alder & Proctor, p. 104). There are several reasons that I believe that there should be new gun...

Battle of Fort Pillow

...poverty, starvation, and bloodshed were made more gruesome by the reality that neighbors were fighting neighbors and brothers raising arms against one another. Caught between both sides was an entire race of people; though there were many political ideologies involved, the issue of slavery and the rights of African Americans lit the fuse and kept the fire burning. Incidents involving the terrorizing of black Americans were numerous throughout the course of the Civil War, though none was more controversial than the Confederate capture of Ft. Pillow. While the basic facts show an inordinate number of the slain victims were African American, the question still lingers as to why that is and if any one person can be held responsible, namely Confederate General N.B. Forrest. While the speculation is rife, the answer is not simple and evidence as a whole would seem to point to many contributing factors and not the lone actions of one man. Ft. Pillow, located approximately forty miles north of Memphis, Tennessee separated from the Mississippi River by bluffs and a narrow ravine, was originally a Confederate fort. The base structure was crude earth but upon being occupied by Union forces had been enlarged. On the morning of April 12th, 1864 Confederate forces led by General N.B. Forrest, a former slave trader, moved in on the fort. After swiftly gaining the advantageous high ground surrounding the fort, Confederate sharpshooters proceeded to pick off Union troops while......

The Method

...The Method: What we are doing is, we find website in niches that you have to choose and that are not mobile optimized (responsive)* yet. *This means that they do not have a mobile optimized version of their website, i.e. users with mobile devices will have a hard time browsing their website. We sell them mobile websites. But wait – do I need coding skills here? No, absolutely not. The trick is, that you have a really great pitch. Of course you can sell the mobile website whenever possible, for example if you go into a bar, just search their website and if it is not displayed in a nice way, go and talk to the owner and sell them a better site. But in this Tutorial we focus on E-Mailing them. So here comes the Step by Step Guide. . 1)  Take a sheet of Paper and write down the niches you would like to take, for example:
a. Restaurants
b. Bars
c. Hotels
d. SwimmingPools e. Dentists/Doctors f. Etc.
We are looking for STATIC sites here, best sites are sites that do not have dynamic content and complicated stuff like self-made booking systems etc. Take easy sites that only have static information like the above mentioned ones. . 2)  Now, as you got your first niche, we are looking for a first city, for example choose a Canadian City like Kingston (Ontario) or any other city in any country of the world. You should make a list with many cities here, too. And then use a. City1Niche1 b. City2Niche1 c. City3Niche1 d. City X Niche 1 e. City1Niche2......

...Method Design The design of the experiment is a non-experimental single sample design; this is because there is no independent variable. The experiment only contains two dependent variables, one dependent variable being the sex label and the other dependent variable being the gender pronouns. Participants The participants were all close friends or family of 1st year psychology students studying at Teesside University. In total there were six participants, four of which were female and 2 male. The age range of participants was 23-71 years old with a mean of 41.00. Each participant completed consent forms to adhere to The SSS&L ethics committee who approved this study. Materials The stimulus used in this experiment was a picture of a soft toy, participants were provided with a pen and paper to describe the toy. There where two questions used in the experiment to obtain gender bias results. Certain inanimate words where used within the first part of the study in order not to try and manipulate the participant’s way of thinking about gender of the soft toy. Procedure The researcher explained all procedures before experiment commenced. Participants were then presented with a picture of a soft toy, they were then asked to write 3 or 4 sentences describing the beginning of a story about the toy, using inanimate language. After completion of the short story, they were then asked a question of “State whether the animal is a boy or a girl?” The last question then...

Methods of Evangelism

...Methods of Evangelism Joshua Fleming Liberty University Online The Roman Roads Summary of Method – The Roman Road is a methodic evangelism approach of presenting the Gospel through various bible verses throughout the book of Romans. From this approach of evangelism, each of the verses are placed in a systematic method to show us who is in need of salvation, why they are in need of salvation, the way in which God will provide salvation, ways in which we can respond to God’s salvation, and finally the results of us responding to God’s gift of salvation. In Romans 3:10-12, and 23 its states “No one is righteous—not even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.” “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard”. These verses show us that every single person is in need of salvation. It states boldly that we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s standards. In Romans 6:23 it states “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” This verse shows us that as sinners and unrighteous people our consequences of our sin is death. Although it does show us that we deserve death it always gives us hope through the gift in which God has given us. In Romans 5:8 it shows us that “God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” God gave us the greatest gift anyone could......

When we assigned all the work in the meeting, but some Ben still mistook the chapters he should do. As a result, conflict occurred and people started to point fingers at the others. There is no doubt communication is a key implement in a group. Recommendations I believe that it is one of the best methods to sharpen people’s skill by reviewing and analyzing cases we experienced. I have learned many lessons from working in this group. Understanding personality is necessary when work in a group. If people understand each other, then there will be less conflict in a group. Effective communication is important as well to lead the team to achieve the goal. If I was in the same group project and exactly same people again, I would deal with argument actively. For example, I will send E-email clearly and write as detail as I can. Besides, asking people to reply E-mail to confirm will be a good method to conduct communication. I anticipate in the future no matter whom am I working with, I will have different problems. The way I believe in is to keep myself rational and always ask if I have any questions....

Pillow Talk

...Pillow Talk Katherine Courtney January 26, 2012 COM 200 Interpersonal Communication Aisha Meeks Every night before we sleep, a little secret we must speak. Imagine your relationship based off that philosophy and how much better it might be. Couples speak to each other all the time, but how often do they truly communicate? What is communication to you? I am sure that you are one of those couples who think hey, we talk all the time so there’s no communication problems with our relationship, but think about it, what do you say when you think you are communicating? Do you talk about what needs done when and how, or do you talk about each other to each other? Who is doing the talking and who is doing the listening, are you both talking and listening? What you have to say to each other is so much more important than how often you say anything at all to them. How can you say you love someone, if you don’t even know who he or she is? Communicating with your partner goes deeper than just talking about your day, although it is a start. In order to keep your relationship healthy and strong you both have to take the time to see who each other truly are, and what you both truly want or need. Before reading the article Can We Talk, I knew that communication was important, and I knew what communication was. What I did not realize was that maybe all this time my partner and I have not been communicating effectively like we thought. When I sit back and think......
