Begin by making charts like the one below for each of the following a-d
a. The man walks slowly to the house from the origin.
Position –Time Graph

The moving man starts at a position of -8 meters and is accelerating at 1 m/s 2. He starts with a velocity of 0 m/s. After 1 second, he will be going 1 m/s
(remember acceleration is 1 m/s per s so velocity will change by +1 m/s with each second that elapses). So after 2 seconds, he will be going 2 m/s, etc. If you carry this motion out with moving man, you see it will take him 4 seconds to get to the origin
(a position of 0 meters), or equivalently to move +8 meters from where he started.
At 4 seconds, he will have a velocity of 4 m/s

On the Position-Time graph, the line is a positive consistent rise. This is because his position is going in a positive direction as well as the time is going in a consistent positive direction.

Velocity-Time Graph

On the Velocity-Time graph, the line is straight across at 2 m/s because the velocity does not change because of the consistent speed of the man walking to the house. Since the velocity is constant the acceleration is zero.

Acceleration –Time Graph
On the Acceleration-Time graph, the line is flat and straight across at the 0 m/s line because the man does not accelerate. He just walks at a consistent pace to the house. This is called constant speed because there is no variation in his speed.

The man is sleeping under the tree. When he wakes up he runs toward the house constantly speeding up as he goes.
On the Position-Time graph, there is a positive upward curved line. This is because both are moving in a positive direction but because he is running, the position is rising faster than the time. This upward curve indicates an increase in velocity.

On the Velocity-time graph, the line is a straight consistent rise. This is caused because the man is running so the velocity is rising throughout the graph, as is the position. A positive slope indicates a changing velocity which is a positive acceleration.

On the Acceleration-Time graph, the line constantly rising because the man is running, constantly speeding up.

The man steps outside the house pausing to lock the door. He then walks quickly for 3 meters then immediately slows down and walks the rest of the way at this slow pace to the tree.

On the Position-Time graph, the line spikes down quickly then continues in a downward consistent decline. This is because he ran for the first 3 meters then walked at a consistent speed. The reason it is going down is because he is going in the opposite direction. On the Velocity-Time graph, the line starts around the -3m mark and is flat for...

Kiesler and Cummings mentioned that the mere presence of others increases involvement, urgency of proximate task, and contribution to the group. The only way technology could help this is if it could facilitate a same-time meeting, but not necessarily a face-to-face meeting, as I believe that can take too much time and planning. Something that I have in mind is Google docs. Most people use it only to write projects together, but I think something similar could be used to have remote meetings. It’s not always necessary to see someone’s face, but it’s still nice to know they’re there. Perhaps a Google-doc type of technology, in which you could still notice everyone’s presence, contributions, and perhaps see and hear what people are saying and writing, would help......
