This project is being worked on by Parth Shah and Nilima V Shah. We would like to fully document, critique and improve a process at a workplace one of us worked before in. Nilima was associated with Shriram Bioseed Genetics as an accountant as well as the back office personnel looking after the sales and logistics functions of the company.
Shriram Bioseed Genetics is a Hybrid Seed manufacturing company. It owns a vast pool of germplasm, which is amongst the richest in the world. This gene pool has one of the highest success rates in all of Asia. Bioseed was taken over in 2002 as a part of an initiative by DCM Shriram to create value in the farmlands of India and beyond. It has expanded its operations in Vietnam, Thailand and The Philippines, and extended its coverage to Indonesia, Bangladesh, Lagos, Cambodia and Nepal. Bioseed is one of the few biotechnology companies which have far ranging expertise across several areas including research and development, field and lab testing, data review, farm management, production and farmer interaction. It aims to empower farmers with high yielding futuristic solutions, from hybrid breeds to better cultivation techniques. Bioseed has its research and production facility based in Hyderabad with branch offices in various states of India viz. Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh. Bioseed not only indulges into commercial seed business but also has tried expanding its legs by involving into the government sector projects for the development of farmers who are below poverty line. This tie up with the government is working well chiefly in the state of Gujarat.
The company lacks in certain operations when it comes to the proper planning and displacement of its inventory, its timely and effective transportation as well as the reuse of goods returned by customers. This definitely leads to a lot of wastage and financial loss as well as loss in terms of sales opportunities. The business needs to take very branch office in loop and properly plan the execution of operational measures in order to effectively work out the situation. Also the measures to be taken tend to be long term as the widespread business will not allow wrapping the things up easily on a short notice. This lack of proper inventory management and timely supply of goods to customers is leading the company to face unwanted losses and the competitors are taking undue advantage of the fact.…...
