Chapter 1 I t is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. However little known the feelings or views of such a man may be on his first entering a neighbourhood, this truth is so well fixed in the minds of the surrounding families, that he is considered the rightful property of some one or other of their daughters. ‘My dear Mr. Bennet,’ said his lady to him one day, ‘have you heard that Netherfield Park is let at last?’ Mr. Bennet replied that he had not. ‘But it is,’ returned she; ‘for Mrs. Long has just been here, and she told me all about it.’ Mr. Bennet made no answer. ‘Do you not want to know who has taken it?’ cried his wife impatiently. ‘YOU want to tell me, and I have no objection to hearing it.’ This was invitation enough. ‘Why, my dear, you must know, Mrs. Long says that Netherfield is taken by a young man of large fortune from the north of England; that he came down on Monday in a chaise and four to see the place, and was so much delighted with it, that he agreed with Mr. Morris immediately; that he is to take possession before Michaelmas, and some of his Pride and Prejudice servants are to be in the house by the end of next week.’ ‘What is his name?’ ‘Bingley.’ ‘Is he married or single?’ ‘Oh! Single, my dear, to...

Psy 410 Week 3 Abnormal Psychology

...Eating, Substance Abuse, Sex, and Personality Disorders Psychology 410 07/21/2012 Professor Christa Banton University of Phoenix Disorders There exist various types of psychological disorders that impact the lives of individuals in society; these entail substance abuse and eating disorders. Individuals might undergo with gender and sexual disorders along with impulse control and personality disorders: the disorder sees the person become isolated and hold back from members of society. The realm of psychology has established these disorders and engendered treatments. Eating disorders entail a substantive trouble with food. A number of individuals dangerously overdo it with food whereas others decline to eat. The disorder instigates a fracas in the individual’s eating patterns and may perturb the individual’s usual life routine. Eating disorders are highly complex and in spite of scientific research to comprehend them, the behavioral, biological, and social foundations of these illnesses stay unknown (2009). The disorders implicated are Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia, and Obesity. The subject with anorexia nervosa declines to eat, having a blurred view of their bodies, believing they are fat. Bulimia is a multifaceted disorder that entails the individual consuming large amounts of food and then regurgitating the contents of their stomach. The subjected plagued by the disorder dreads gaining weight and will undergo......

...Historical Perspectives of Abnormal Psychology Abstract In the following paper, abnormal psychology will be discussed in length. The origins of abnormal psychology will be discussed, including the challenges to defining and classifying normal and abnormal behavior. There will also be a brief overview of how abnormal psychology has evolved into a scientific discipline. Finally the biopsychosocial, biological/medical, and sociocultural theoretical models, will also be analyzed in relation to the development of abnormal psychology. Historical Perspectives of Abnormal Psychology Abnormal psychology, also known as psychopathology, is the subfield of psychology devoted to the study of mental disorders (Hansell & Damour, 2008). The subfield also aims to understand the nature, causes, and treatment of these mental disorders (Pearson Higher Education, 2010). Abnormal psychology has come a long way in regard to how it is defined, viewed, and even treated. There are many challenges when it comes to defining and classifying normal and abnormal behavior. Over time, abnormal psychology has evolved into a scientific discipline. When it comes to the development of abnormal psychology, there are many theoretical models in which we can study as well. Origins of Abnormal Psychology It is difficult to define abnormality, and the scientific characterization of abnormality depends on five criteria: help seeking, irrationality/dangerousness, deviance, emotional distress, and......

...Group B8 Nguyễn Vân Phượng [1013103173] PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT JOURNAL REFLECTION 5 In the sixth week of MPD class, we had a lesson about ASSIST learning styles which also was our topic in workshop 5. I was very interest in this because we could find out our learning styles through simple and quick question which make the answers was more clear, exact and precise. ... Mr. Naylor Honors British Literature 10 February 2015 Pride and Prejudice In the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, most of the characters are blinded from reality because of their initial prejudice towards others. Each character in the novel handles each interaction in different ways and conforms to society. The title of the novel is best exemplified through Elizabeth Bennet’s pride and prejudice when she rejects Mr. Collinses proposal, interacts with Mr. Darcy for the first time, and misjudges Mr. Darcy’s innocent stares. Elizabeth’s faithfulness to her pride is exemplified by her interaction with Mr. Collins. When Mr. Collins proposes to Elizabeth, “it is impossible for her to do otherwise than decline” (Austen 74). Mr. Collins exclaims that he has more money than Elizabeth has and implies she would be foolish to not marry him. Elizabeth laughs at this proposal, because she views marriage differently. She is actually looking for love and a marriage that will contribute to her happiness instead of marrying for merely money. This reveals that Elizabeth values her self-pride and feelings for a man more than the benefits of the marriage financially. Collins never bothers to mention “love” nor does he invoke Elizabeth’s happiness, only his own. Despite the societal pressure to marry this wealthy man, she stays true to herself and politely declines his offer. Although Elizabeth takes pride in denying Mr. Collins proposal, the flaws in her character are......

Pride

...I take great pride in my individuality . Audience – clothing , flaws Being an individual is easy to want, but hard to attain. Teens nowadays only want to fit in, not to stand out. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines individuality as 'total character peculiar to and distinguishing an individual from others'. Being an individual is described as 'peculiar'. Not many people want to feel peculiar. They want to feel normal, just like everybody else. Individuality is a wonderful thing, though, that can only be accomplished by loving yourself. 'There's room for everybody on the planet to be creative and conscious if you are your own person. If you're trying to be like somebody else, then there isn't.' That quote was said by Tori Amos, and it is so true. There's no room on this earth for another lackadaisical Joe Schmo. When everybody wears the same clothes, has the same hairstyle, talks about the same things, and has the same beliefs, all the kids in the school hallway just blend together into one blob of boredom. That is why individuality is so important. No one wants to live a totally predictable life. No one who hates themselves will be a true individual. If you dislike yourself, why on earth would you want others to dislike you for being diiferent? Someone who loves themselves and embraces their flaws will achieve being an individual. If you are confident about yourself, you can feel comfortable standing out. You can glow from within, as if saying to the world:......
