...ASTR 122 05/13/2013 Assignment #3 951131748 WangJae Lee Astronomy 122 Distance Education Third Homework Assignment 1. Explain why measuring parallax distances for only the brightest appearing stars in the sky would give you a biased luminosity scale and an unrepresentative sample of stars. -The stellar parallax measures the relative distances from stars to different positions of the Earth in order to measure luminosity. It is done by using distant stars as a fixed reference system so that if a star is observed in respect to the distant stars today, and then measured again in six months, a small shift in movement will be recorded. It is absolutely necessary for there to be “distant stars” or less bright stars as a frame of reference otherwise the angle measurements would have nothing to compare against. Thus, it creates a biased scale of recorded luminosity. 2. Explain the overall concept of pressure support (against gravity) in stars and why stars are unstable if they are not generating energy in their cores. -The concept of pressure support can be explained through the internal gas pressure. The internal gas pressure is attempting to expand and dissipate our ball of gas, while the self-gravity of the gas (due to its mass) is trying to collapse the ball. As the gas gets hotter, the internal gas pressure increases. Then, it reaches a point of stabilization between gravity and pressure support. -Stars are unstable if they are not generating energy in their cores......

How many owners of these devices suffer from obesity? Obesity now affects 20% of U.S. children, according to the National Center for Health statistics, a U.S. government agency. Obesity occurs when an individual takes in more calories in the form of food than he or she burns for energy. With recent popularity in new technologies, children are not exercising as much as they did in the past, and childhood obesity is becoming a wide spread epidemic in today’s society. Childhood obesity is an ever growing struggle amongst our society today. Most health experts believe childhood obesity is the result of a combination of genetic, environmental and psychological factors. Environment factors that contribute to childhood obesity include activity levels, diets, and eating habits. These factors can easily be maintained, or improved in a young individual’s routine with the help of the peers around them. Parents are the ones who should be acting as positive role models for their children. If an obese child has and obese parent they may think that it is just genetic, but in fact it could be due to poor eating habits ( consumption of excessive amounts of calories), or lack of physical activities. Recent studies show that on average kids......

...A++PAPER;http://www.homeworkproviders.com/shop/eng-122-week-4/ ENG 122 WEEK 4 ENG 122 Week 4, Addressing the issue of Childhood Obesity The good old days, when there was no big screen or flat screen TV, we used to spend our time outside home. Telephone was a rarity; so people used to travel or spend time in neighborhood in their spare times. There were no computers, laptops, iPods or cell phones; so the major sources of entertainment were evening get together, park walks, bicycle rides and skating were our favorite activities. This era was the peak of childhood amusements like jacks, hide and seek and kick ball. Bicycle was the most preferred medium for almost everywhere I had to go. My times were pleasurably more inclined towards physical activities, and amusements were limited to physical outreach. Today, children of new generations are surrounded by most technically equipped gadgets that have completely revolutionized the way they spend their childhood. Sitting at home, over the LCDs, they can play games that are truly addictive. Moreover, they can have access to almost everything they want to know. Cell phone is the biggest addiction of new generation. Computers and laptops have become a necessity rather than a luxury. Today’s child is technically more informed than our generation. But the cost this generation is bearing could be attributed to their physical appearances where glasses and obesity have become a common problem in America. Since computer...

The purpose of this letter is to inform you on what to expect in English 122. For those who have taken English 121, you know that this class teaches the basics of informal writings. English 122 teaches several different forms of writings which include analysis, synthesis, and research papers. One of the main keys to succeed in this class is to come with an open mind. I find that critical reading is important in English 122. One of the main keys to succeed in this class is to understand the readings. One of the three assignments that were given is the critical analysis. I find that if you understand the readings than you will do well on this assignment. Another assignment given was the synthesis. It is important to make it a habit to finish your readings and give yourself time to analyze what you’ve read and have ideas on what you want to reflect in your writings. The purpose of this assignment is to find one common theme in two or more articles the instructor assigns. I find the most important aspect of writing is to always have a thesis. Lastly, you will have a research paper. This writing should be easy due to all the papers you will write that will lead up to the research paper. Be willing to learn and keep in mind that you will succeed if you do exactly what the instructor says. Good Luck!...
