Reflective Essay #1

1. My subordinates would describe me as a “down to earth” type of leader. When it comes to being supportive, they know I will do what it takes to ensure they have everything they need to complete the job. They also know i care about not overwhelming them. If they need time off work for personal issues, I provide that. If they do good work, I reward them by giving them time off of work. Also, if they have any questions or need training, they know I will do my best to accommodate whatever they need. 2. My supervisor would describe my follower-ship by saying that I do what is required to complete the task at hand. They would mention my willingness to switch shifts with no complaints and my devotion to stay at work on my own time to ensure turnover is smooth. 3. My leadership style is the True Leader style. We have other leaders in our section that are more Authoritarian and I hear the complaints from the subordinates. I also personally see the difference on how my style and their style affects the workplace. I feel my style is highly effective because people are more willing to work and show initiative working on my shift, whereas on the other leader’s shift, they get frustrated and feel overworked. 4. To describe myself as a NCO, I think the best word to use would be fair. I’m open to input from subordinates, give them opportunities to make their own decisions so they feel involved, and try my best to make sure everyone has their fair-share of work. 5. When it comes to being a NCO, my supervisor would describe me as self-motivated. They know i’ll get the job done with minimal guidance or attention. When tasked with a job, I will take the initiative to go above and beyond to make sure the job gets complete. 6. One of my strengths is that I'm straight-forward. I will not beat around the bush and tell everyone how it is rather than sugar-coating things. Another strength is that i’m caring and considerate. Those working for me get treated fairly and know I care about them on the job as well as outside of work. One last strength is that i’m proactive. I’m not the type to sit around when there’s work to be done. I always find out what needs to be done and get it done so that we’re not falling behind and can all enjoy our free-time. 7. One of the qualities that makes me who I am is that I’m reserved. With me being reserved, I really don’t talk as much as other people but when I do speak, people listen and take what I say serious. Another quality that makes me who I am is that i’m open-minded. I’m open to people’s ideas and if I don’t agree, I’ll at least try to understand why they think that way and make an effort to collaborate on our ideas instead of being closed-minded.…...

...An essay is usually a short piece of writing. It is often written from an author's personal point of view. Essays can be literary criticism, political manifestos, learned arguments, observations of daily life, recollections, and reflections of the author. The definition of an essay is vague, overlapping with those of an article and a short story. Almost all modern essays are written in prose, but works in verse have been dubbed essays (e.g. Alexander Pope's An Essay on Criticism and An Essay on Man). While brevity usually defines an essay, voluminous works like John Locke's An Essay Concerning Human Understanding and Thomas Malthus's An Essay on the Principle of Population provide counterexamples. It is very difficult to define the genre into which essays fall. Aldous Huxley, a leading essayist, gives guidance on the subject: Like the novel, the essay is a literary Abstract This article will examine the reasons why it is important both linguistically and psychologically to build a vocabulary quickly when learning a foreign language. The article asserts that very little can be achieved or learned in a foreign language with a small vocabulary and that by building a sizable vocabulary quite quickly one can soon be able to function adequately. ...The Conservative government has had a significant influence on employee relations in terms of changes to the legal framework of labour law. These changes involved the relationships between the employer and employee, the employer and the union and the relationship between the union and the membership. In regards to the employer and employee relationship the Conservative government removed any statutory rights of employees that had previously been put in place during the 1960’s and 1970’s. This was done in order to encourage flexibility as the government felt that the employee was much more in favour than the employer and that the employer was being faced with an unnecessary amount of pressure to conform to rules which in” Ref: http://www.writework.com/essay/employee-relations-discuss-political-economic-social-and-t#.TqqOxltdURW The social factor: 30 years ago, the conventional approach to employee relations was centered on the trade union behavior, collective bargaining, industrial disputes and UK government-trade unions relationships. ...ENGL 1312 26 November 2014 Reflective Essay The one skill that I can take away from this class and apply it to others is my newfound ability to prepare research for any subject or discipline. I can truly say that I have learned general research techniques and can apply these academic disciplines for my personal use as well as on the job. My ability to incorporate information from sources has been reinforced by concepts that were taught in Composition 1. For the “Majors Essay” I selected a topic of interest for myself and conducted research. My focus in the past for writing papers was generally gathering as much information as possible from the web. For this assignment I had to learn new techniques that were necessary for researching topics in a real library. I felt the assignment was presented with enough information to form an outline and begin writing. The difficulty for me was remembering the five-part essay format that was learned in freshman comp and structuring my introduction. Writing an annotated bibliography was a process that allowed me to explore the methods that scholars use to organize and record information that will be used in their projects. I learned better ways of note taking as well as summarizing. Learning how to understand and evaluate sources and identifying what is needed is a skill I can carry wherever I go. Improving on an assignment like this would be very hard for me to comment on since this was the first time I have ever done......
