Senior Speech
Assalamualaikum everyone,
This was my second year attending city of knowledge. It was a very different experience for me because I was in public school my entire life. I risked a lot to attend this school, my class rank in my previous school, my friends, amongst other things. But it was all worth it. And it's a huge blessing to have friends with the same faith. At times I was sick of the school, but the students at the school made school worth coming to. From elementary to high school, the smiles and laughter I've shared with the students made everything worth it. Maysum, abidi, Othman, Abidi, hamid, monte, Addo, hani, and all of the others. I'd say more names but that would take forever and be annoying so I'll avoid it. I'd also like to thank all of my teachers for dealing with my nonchalant attitude and for trying their best to teach me. I appreciate almost everyone that I've met this year because of city of knowledge, thank you all for everything. I want to finish my speech by thanking the most important people in my life, my parents and family. Thank you so much for supporting me and helping me through everything I've faced these past 18 years of my life. Thank you for all the sacrifices you've made for me. I will never be able to repay you guys or thank you guys enough no matter what I do. I hope that one day I can do the same for my future family. Thanks class of 2012, and thank you all for listening. Have a good evening.…...

...Journal #1 My speech wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be, but it could have been better if I put more time into getting more information from my partner. The body paragraphs needed to give more information and go into more detail. Although it wasn’t that bad of a speech giving the thought that we met up for about thirty minutes. Back in high school when someone was giving a speech, we, the audience always tried to make them laugh, or simply just didn’t pay attention to the speaker and did something else. Now the audience was paying attention and being respectful which calmed me down when giving my speech. As the speaker I needed to be more enthusiastic while giving my speech, because how is the audience going to be interested if I don’t even seem interested. I noticed very few people glancing at their phones or just with a blank look in their face; this made me relax a little more for some reason. Even though I could have had more information and gone more into detail, my speech did flow from the thesis statement to my conclusion paragraph. I was getting more nervous as the names kept getting closer to mine, once my partner Aldo, brought me up when he gave his speech, which calmed my nervousness down a bit because it wasn’t that bad being in front of the class and having everyone’s eyes looking at you. Once my turn came to speak, I took deep breaths as I made my way to the front of the classroom, and once there I paused, and took one last deep breath, and......

...and represent each and every one of you, a person that will put in 110% is the type of person you need in serving as your CCASC President. Good morning delegates my name is Dion Anderson, and I am a junior at Westlake High school. I believe that I am that type of person and I am ready to step into the position, to serve as your CCASC President. Gandhi once said “be the change you wish to see in world”. I started to be that change at a very young age, by baking cookies for the elderly to restoring parks for my community. I had the great opportunity to be a part of a life changing experience called HOBY (Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership) which built and shaped me to be the great leader I am today, I don’t think I would be up here giving this speech if I hadn’t gone to HOBY. I have been a part of SGA since 8th grade and fell in love with it ever since. I got an award for doing more than the president that year. Now I would like to share with you why I want to take on the position of CCASC president. I am dedicated, passionate, and persistent to the point where I get things done. I have a strong will, and I always follow through on my promises. I’m a natural leader, and I’m extremely good at fundraising. We have had several fundraising events at Westlake high school that I took part in that were a success. I have many fresh, new ideas that I will bring to CCASC. As president, I will communicate regularly with all of the high school and middle school student government, by sending......

...Homework: persuasive Speech Self-Assessment May 3, 2014 The topic nursing was appropriate for my audience. Even though the majority of my audience. My specific purpose in the speech was to persuade my audience about the benefits of nursing and the choices in career path that they can choose. I feel that it was achieved successfully in the amount of time I had. Additionally, my thesis statement was also clearly which I am sure we can all relate to that you will never forget the way someone makes you feel even if you forget their names clearly stated. The speech was well organized from beginning to end. The major functions of the speech introduction were accomplished by initially getting the attention of the audience although The conclusion reinforced the audience’s understanding of the information presented and was tied to the central idea of the benefits of nursing Adequate research was conducted. There were four APA citations. All language presented was pronounced correctly and non-technical terms were used for overall understanding. The presentation of my speech was not rushed. However, somewhere along my notes my cards were mixed up, however I continued and just diverted to the card I should be reading from. It was a bit difficult to maintain my concentration but I kept the flow. This is evident in the review of my speech where I can be seen looking at my notes. Appropriate pauses, pitch, tone and rate were used throughout my speech. This was evident during...

...As apart of our senior project we have dedicated a special part of it to raising money strictly for Special Olympics by hosting events. But another major part of our project is charity links. The idea of charity links to most people is simple but much more thought and effort will go into this part than you would expect. We have previously explained in our essay plans why we are doing the charity links but the information we have lacked to present to you is how we will put this on. we have a commons area in front of our cafeteria and it is common that clubs and events sell products out there so this just what we plan to do. We will set up a table out there and sell links between lunches and even possibly classes. Just like all good fund raising stragies we will advertise that we are selling these charity links for a good cause and explain briefly why and how. We plan to make announcements during lunch and hang posters around the school and even possibly get in contact with the media kids to make an announcement for us. That’s how we plan to raise money by using our charming charity links in school so we can make a reasonable sized donation to Special Olympics through BPA we hope to raise at least $100. Senior Project The point in a senior project is to relate back to your tech area, we have taken BFM for the last 4 years starting at the end of our freshman year and ending in may of our senior year. To understand BFM you have to understand how far we have......

...Erinn Elledge COMS203-1501A-08 Laticia Dezell 01/23/2015 Speech # 1 I Have a Dream August 28, 1963 Martin Luther King Jr. The speaker gained the attention of the audience of all the people who joined in the demonstration for freedom for the Negro’s. The topic of his speech is for freedom for the Negro, the Emancipation Proclamation. He is trying to stop discrimination for those of color. The facts and explanations that support his arguments are Constitution and Declaration of Independence are two very important explanations of the freedom all men even black. Civil Rights are a good example of his speech. Martin Luther King Jr. delivery of this speech was very good. He not only emphasized with loudness but you could hear the trembling in his voice when he would say something that was of great importance and he would raise his voice even higher. He was very enthusiastic when speaking of the freedom that the people should get and how some day he hoped the children would be able to walk the streets just as white people were able to. Martin Luther King Jr. reminded people throughout his speech that “I Have a Dream” he wasn’t talking only of himself but for all blacks in our nation. He emphasized what he wanted to see some day. His hopes and dreams for a better country. I believe in this speech he did well throughout, there really isn’t just one section or another that I liked better it was all wonderful....

...GRABBING ATTENTION OF AUDIENCE To figure out how many of you may find pratical value of my speech, I’d like to ask you a question first: who here hopes to live past age 60 or has parents or grandparents who did live or have lived past 60, raise your hand please. Ok, you are the people who may find pratical value in my speech. I believe the rest of you still find my speech enchanting. BACKGROUND Thanks to our medical and scientific advancements, our lives are getting longer. Nowdays, we have to face the cruel reality that we now have more old people and fewer young people than at any time in the past. That means that all those old people are more of a burden on the few young people, and that each old person has less individual value. Every year, it is estimated that 4 million elderly Americans are victims of physical, psychological or other forms of abuse, according to American Psychologycal Association. In HK, there were 454 elder abuse cases from January to September 2014. As Gail Donor, the chairman of Ontario’s Long Term Care Task Force points out: ”Our whole society does not value elders – we’ve started to think of elders as ‘takers’.” Hence, age discrimnation is everywhere.  Older people are at a big disadvantage in job applications. Some employers believe that older workers are not as nimble as younger ones. Meanwhile, they're at a big disadvantage in hospitals. American hospitals have an explicit policy called age-based allocation of healthcare......

...1 Corinthians 6:19, tells us: “Don't you know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own.” Good afternoon, my name is Olivia. I would love to have your attention for about 7 to 8 minutes. Who has not feasted its eyes over gorgeous food presented to whet your appetite, that makes you drool and inspires the culinary adventurer within you? To most people, I myself included, food plays an important role. Whenever there is a new restaurant or snack, I am always the first in line to try it out. On the Internet the art of visual presentation of food has been taken to next level. Living in Indonesia the creativity and effort people put in a dish or food-item, never seizes to amaze me. Many times I wondered why we did not have such cool snacks like cakes displaying all colours of the rainbow in Holland. And it certainly triggered my curiosity to find out more about it. Digging deeper into this matter I was shocked to find out the reasons why. Did you know that products you may have bought might actually contain a substance which is banned in some other countries? And did you know that there is a legitimate reason for it to be banned? Most of these dangerous chemicals actually may cause more harm to our body than we imagine! After having read research reports and after having gone through all the facts I can only be left with one conclusion: CLEAR LABELLING SHOULD BE REQUIRED FOR EVERY PRODUCT. I opened this......

...Speech 1 “A Time for Choosing” by Ronald Reagan 1. Ronald Reagan gained the audience attention by his opening statement “ I’ve been permitted to choose my own words and ideas” 2. The topic was A Time for Choosing, it was a presidential candidate speech concerning the upcoming election which was going to be held in a few week. It explained his standpoint and views on the hot topics such as the war and the economy 3. Ronald Regan stated that he once was a democrat but felt that the issues facing the nation required him to cross the line. He is quoted as saying” those who have the most have did the least to prevent it from happening”. He stated that freedom is fragile. The government doesn’t control things without controlling people. 4. Ronald Regan was an excellent speaker. His speech flowed well. There were times he used jokes to lighten the mood as well as a way to relate to the listeners. When he was making appoint his voice became more stern and serious. 5. He transitioned into his conclusion by quoting Alexander Hamilton 6. I feel he did well by using stories; for example, the story about the Cuban who said that he had a place to go for freedom, but we as Americans have no place else to go for peace 7. The only improvements I think should have been made would have been not using the names of people for joke examples Speech 2 “Acres of Diamonds” by Russell H Conwell 1. The speaker got the audience attention by the tone of speech and he......

...The Longest Day, the Shortest Speech http://vsotd.com/featured-speech/longest-day-shortest-speech#sthash.5hXfbsUi.dpuf "The troops, the air and the Navy did all that Bravery and devotion to duty could do." Address by Dwight D. Eisenhower Written in case of failure of D-Day Invasion, Normandy, France on June 6, 1944 In my analysis of this speech, I have found that the speech fails to adhere to the guidelines of informative speech. Although it meets a few of the guidelines, the speech overall is unsuccessful in the essence of providing the vital information needed to make it a worthy informative speech. In it’s opening sentence, the speech violates the guideline “Don’t be too technical”. The speaker’s use of words such as “landings” and “foothold” are technical jargons that the ordinary audience would not be able to fully comprehend. His speech is more directed towards the military savvy audience than the common citizen and leaves a lot to be desired. The speaker could have improved his speech by using less specialized words. Although sometimes, it becomes difficult to put military terms in easy to understand language, the speaker could have used words such as “attack” in lieu of “landings” and “control” instead of “foothold”. This would have made it much easier for the audience to understand and relate to the scene. Also, in the opening sentence, the speaker violates another guideline “Don’t overestimate what the audience knows” about the topic. He refers to......

...Senior Speech Life is about the journey, not the destination. “It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.” A quote first said by American author Ernest Hemingway. Now a days it seems as though people just rush to reach their goals or reach destinations that they end up putting their lives on hold. Things like love, a family, friendships, health, and new experiences are put on the back burner so that you can snatch the promotion at work or study an extra hour for final exams. Most of the lessons learned in life are based on our interactions with others. Neglecting those opportunities for temporary gains is futile. Older generations say that this generation’s downfall will be that we are too dependent on technology; I disagree, I believe our downfall will be the American way of falling into habit just to look up one day realizing that our lives are gone. For instance, we are about to graduate and to many of us it seems as though we just walked through the doors freshman year… thinking back can you remember a party you skipped out on, a school dance you promised to attend next year but never got around to, or even a date that you turned down? Do you remember why? Let me guess, you were too busy with school. I think you guys know me well enough by now to know that I’m not the type to preach and force my views onto people; I’m pretty carefree. But enjoying life is something I’m very adamant about. I’m not saying that......

...make no law respecting an establishment of religion; or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceable to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” However, the origin of law was around even before the First Amendment came to be a law. Areopagitica was published November 23, 1644 at the height of the English Civil War. This story essentially advocated for removal of censorship, claiming that censorship did not exist in the Greek or Roman society therefore it should not exist at all. According to John Milton’s Areopagitica , “And though all the winds of doctrine were let loose to play upon the earth so truth be in the field, we do injuriously by licensing and prohibiting to misdoubt her strength. Let her and falsehood grapple; who ever knew truth put to the worse in a free and open encounter.” This is of extreme significance to the origin of law because it advocates for removal of censorship in addition to the implementation of freedom of speech. Furthermore, the story of Areopagitica advocated the idea that common law should exist and that each party should have the right to speak their mind. Individuals should have the right to argue and defend their speech; they should be able to use logos based appeals in order support their speech. Finally a large portion of Areopagitica is based on the importance of learning. Essentially there needs to be a balance of......
