Online consumer behavior is being tracked all over the world-wide-web via cookies, Flash cookies, and “Web beacons” such as Omniture. Ad networks utilize information collected via various Javascripts and/or cookies to dynamically create content for users. One such Ad network called BlueKai actually allows its users to see a visual representation of the data being collected and shared about them. The amount and variety of data contained in user cookies alone is simply staggering! Many consumers today are beginning to wonder whether or not their privacy is at risk. When handling behavioral data of any kind, it must be stored securely. ...SR-kf-013 Robert Held BSA/310 May 7th, 2012 Jack Davis SR-kf-013 Introduction Based in the San Diego metropolitan area, Kudler Fine Foods (KFF) has three stores that deal exclusively with specialty foods. Kathy Kudler, owner and chief executive of the company, is exploring new options to expand the business. In order to do so, KFF needs to design and incorporate new sales and marketing techniques. Although only three stores strong, Kathy feels that some type of rewards program will boost business and aid the company in discovering what the customers need by tracking purchases and buying habits. The true objective of KFF is to expand and dominate the entire west coast and Kathy knows this cannot be accomplished without first becoming more “customer aware” and achieving a level of operational excellence that exceeds what is presently engaged. The management team understands that this is an attainable goal that can be overtaken by ensuring product quality, benevolent pricing, and customer satisfaction. The Frequent Shopper Program The main objective of the Frequent Shopper Program (FSP) is to track customer transactions and purchasing habits. With this information, KFF can then offer clients certain incentives based on loyalty points accumulated by purchases. It is Kathy’s desire that these collective points be applicable to many different types of rewards such as airline upgrades, high-end gifts and free specialty foods of their choice. The information obtained by...

The company is interested in developing a system to track customer purchases through a frequent shopper program. Customers will be awarded points toward free item and discounts. The program will provide data gathered from purchasing behaviors to help streamline processes, satisfy customers, develop a closer relationship with each member, and foster a stable platform for efficiency in operations. In this paper I will discuss the potential legal, ethical, and specific costs related to the issues of developing a frequent shopper program. Finally, I will discuss how this information system has an effect on the organizational structure. The loyalty rewards program has many benefits to both the customer and the company; however, there are legal concerns that must be addressed. Membership will begin on a sign-up basis. Customers who want a membership will provide personal information and be subjected to legal terms, privacy agreements, and security policies. Sensitive data is collected at different times in conjunction with loyalty programs. The first instance is created during the loyalty card application. The second instance develops when purchases are recorded, and finally when the spending histories are recorded; creating a consumer profile. Kudler has illustrated what information it will collect in the Database Diagram – PNG under......
